The Purpose of Reincarnation

Reincarnation functions as a learning process, akin to a school where souls accumulate experience and wisdom. Souls that have reincarnated now are often old souls who have prepared through many lifetimes for this moment. Old souls demonstrate awareness and discernment, in contrast to newer souls who may be more naive.

Thus, when Esther has no need to be Esther anymore, the ego anchor dissolves. She cannot take it back to the Lake. For many people, this ruins the theory of reincarnation. Question 222 in The Spirits’ Book by Allan Kardec addresses the justice of reincarnation through the progress of nations. Here is the key excerpt from Kardec’s commentary on its ancient origins, including references to metempsychosis and ancient Egypt:

“The doctrine of reincarnation, that is to say, the doctrine which proclaims that men have many successive existence, is neither new nor modern… It is, on the contrary, as old as the world, and is the one form of the doctrine of immortality which has been believed in by the largest number of persons.

It was taught as a strict doctrine by Pythagoras; but he, as is well known, borrowed it from the Indian and Egyptian philosophers, among whom it had been held as a traditional tenet from time immemorial… The doctrine of metempsychosis, or transmigration of souls, was a fundamental principle with the ancients…

But the antique doctrine of metempsychosis was not the same as the modern doctrine of reincarnation; for the ancients believed that human souls might pass into the bodies of animals, which the modern doctrine does not admit.”

Preexistence of souls

The Second Synod Council of Constantinople condemned doctrines tied to soul preexistence under Justinian’s influence without Pope Vigilius present. Convened by Justinian to address the Three Chapters controversy and Origenist views. It issued 14 anathemas, with the first stating: “If anyone asserts the fabulous pre-existence of souls, and shall assert the monstrous restoration which follows from it: let him be anathema.” This condemns preexistence and apokatastasis, interpreted by some as implying cyclical soul returns, but not reincarnation explicitly

S: Some of us, we know the lives previous, yes. Some of them that are important. It is easier not to remember it because if you remember, a lot of times you become overcome with great guilt. It is not perhaps necessary for that time. If it were necessary, you would remember. There are those in the community who are trained to remember. And there are those who would choose that path, but it is not for everyone. The elders would be able to tell you who you were, if it was asked. There are masters who have the ability, not only to remember theirs, but to help others remember. But for the most part, those who know who they were, remember. Usually Yahweh decides if He would grant this remembrance and then the pathway is started upon.

When people remember a past life, they indeed remember a lifetime experience of a drop of the Lake, because the Lake contains it all. The same you doesn’t really reincarnate from lifetime to lifetime. That is a simplistic way to explain it to help people understand. This is why many people claim to have past-life memory as the same person, usually a well-known historical figure such as a queen. This is because all drops carry every memory according to holographic principle. In that way, numerous people might consciously retain this memory from the Lake. The ego has a tendency to claim it as its own, saying, “I was Cleopatra.” But, truly, there is no “I” in the Lake. The I is an illusion used by the ego to make sense of a separated reality.

In ancient Egypt, it took many lifetimes for the initiates trained in the priesthoods to completely open their eyes to other realities. They were trained to reincarnate into certain families and to remember who they were. Mothers and fathers understood who they would be birthing because they would dream of it. They would know who was coming into their bodies before they even moved into conception. The eyes were much more open then, and could see into many different realities. They were called the eyes of Horus because they could look into many different worlds—the world of waking and the world of sleeping, the world of death and the world of dreaming.
