Flood Stories from Around the World

Only one man, Du-mu, complied.

Du-mu was saved in a log hollowed out of a Pieris tree, together with his four sons and otters, wild ducks, and lampreys.

The civilized peoples who can write are descended from the sons; the ignorant races are descendants of wooden figures whom Du-mu constructed after the deluge.

The Kings of Atlantis become the Gods of the Greeks

He means by the golden men not men literally made of gold, but good and noble men; he says we are of the 'age of iron.' He called them demons because they were δαήμονες (knowing or wise)."

The Deluge of the Chaldeans

"'Mu-sheri-ina-namari--rose from the foundations of heaven in a black cloud;--Ramman thundered in the midst of the cloud,--and Nabon and Sharru marched before;--they marched, devastating the mountain and the plain;--Nergal the powerful dragged chastisements after him;--Adar advanced, overthrowing;--before him;--the archangels of the abyss brought destruction,--in their terrors they agitated the earth.--The inundation of Ramman swelled up to the sky,--and [the earth] became without lustre, was changed into a desert.

Atlantis’ Readings

There had been the upheavals also from the land of Mu, or Lemuria, and these had their part in the changing, or there was the injection of their tenets in the varied portions of the land - which was much greater in extent until the final upheaval of Atlantis, or the islands that were later upheaved, when much of the contour of the land in Central America and Mexico was changed to that similar in outline to that which may be seen in the present.

That now being found, and a portion already discovered that has laid in waste for many centuries, was then a combination of those peoples from Mu, Oz and Atlantis.

James Churchward

The Lost Continent of Mu

In the 19th century, traveler and writer Augustus Le Plongeon first proposed the existence of a hypothetical continent named Lemuria or Mu.

According to Le Plongeon, Mu was located in the Atlantic Ocean, and its refugees founded ancient civilizations like Egypt and Mesoamerica.

He notably attributed Egypt's founding to Queen Moo, a refugee from Mu's downfall, and asserted other refugees established the Mayan civilization in Central America.

He derived the name "Mu" from Charles Etienne Brasseur de Bourbourg, who misinterpreted the Troano Codex in 1864 using the de Landa alphabet.

Nevertheless, Le Plongeon associated Mu with the lost land of Atlantis, believing it sunk in the Atlantic Ocean.

Anglo-American explorer James Churchward popularized Le Plongeon's concept, albeit placing Mu in the Pacific Ocean.

In his book "The Lost Continent of Mu" (1931), Churchward described Mu as stretching from the Hawaiian Islands to Fiji and from Easter Island to the Marianas.

He recounted discovering ancient clay tablets in India, written in a mysterious "Naga-Maya language." These tablets, he claimed, originated from Mu.

Churchward described Mu as an advanced civilization, led by a superior "white race" and home to 64 million people before its destruction around 12,000 years ago.

Churchward linked Mu to major ancient civilizations, including Egypt, Greece, and Central America, and believed its people influenced megalithic architecture worldwide.

He saw common symbols like the sun across these cultures, drawing parallels to Mu's sun worship.

He also claimed that Polynesian megalithic art originated from Mu, though his assertions about the materials and origins of artifacts like the moai statues on Easter Island were later disproven.

The Lost Continent of Mu: He described Mu as a vast continent, identifying it as the true Garden of Eden and the birthplace of human civilization.

The Children of Mu: This volume depicted Mu's inhabitants as influential and technologically advanced, living in a utopian society.

The Sacred Symbols of Mu: Here, Churchward traced the origins of world religions back to Mu, claiming its teachings influenced figures like Moses and Jesus.

The Cosmic Forces of Mu: He argued against established scientific concepts like biological evolution and atomic force, proposing alternative theories.

Second Book of the Cosmic Forces of Mu: Churchward continued his revisionist theories, challenging conventional understandings of Earth's history and geological processes.

The various depictions of the laḫmu in art tell us a story about this creature’s beginnings and the various roles attributed to him through time as he is passed through cultural identity and historic memory.

The first renderings of the laḫmu display him in the tamer-of-beasts motif where he is thought to have represented a guardian spirit of livestock and prey, a creature that is human but wild.
