The Lacerta Files are two interview transcripts posted online in the early 2000s. Their author, who signs as Ole K., says he spoke with a reptilian woman called Lacerta in December 1999 and again in April 2000. In that text the beings who made humans are the “Illojim”, and the English editor notes the word could mean Elohim, or could point to a different race. Some readers take the Lacerta account at face value and line up its date for the Illojim leaving with shifts in ancient religion and kingship. What follows sets out that proposal next to the sources it leans on.
The Date in the Lacerta Files
Lacerta gives a precise figure for the departure.
It was exactly 4,943 years ago – according to your time scale – that the Illojim left the planet again for unknown reasons…

Counted back from 1999, that lands near 2944 BCE, which is where the round figure of 3000 BCE comes from. She says the last battles between her people and the Illojim were fought around 5,000 years ago, that the Illojim had posed as gods to humans, and that they vanished from one day to the next. The second file closes with her telling readers not to stay under the control of something “already been gone for 5000 years”.
Before 3000 BCE: Gods Among Humans
The proposal holds that before this date the Elohim were present as rulers or guides, and that memories of this survive in old texts. The Sumerian King List says kingship first came down from heaven and gives the eight kings before the flood reigns of 28,800 to 43,200 years each. Egyptian tradition placed divine rulers before the first human dynasties. Genesis also speaks of such beings.
Genesis tells of the sons of God taking human wives.

Around 3000 BCE: The Departure
On this reading the leaving of the Elohim matches the start of written history in cuneiform and the rise of kings who claimed to stand in for absent gods. Egypt’s First Dynasty began around 3100 BCE (see Athothis). Some also link the Tower of Babel to this break, seeing it as a moment when the gods stepped in and then cut contact.
Genesis 11 ends the building of Babel with a scattering.
So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

2000 to 1500 BCE: Priests and Written Myth
In the next stage, by this account, the gods speak only through dreams, oracles and chosen people. Priests, prophets and diviners grow in number, worship centres on temples in Mesopotamia and Egypt, and stories such as Atrahasis and the Enuma Elish are written down in place of direct meetings with the divine. The proposal dates the covenant with Abraham to about 1800 BCE, with YHWH now appearing mostly in visions. The Bible itself gives no date in our calendar for Abraham.
Around 1000 BCE: Human Kings
The proposal reads 1 Samuel 8 as the moment Israel moved from divine to human rule.

Across the region, kings were then seen as sons of gods or as chosen by them. The proposal adds that the Ark of the Covenant, once a sign of divine presence, slowly lost its central place, and that the Elohim became distant gods instead of active rulers.
After the Exile: Rewriting
For the period after about 500 BCE the proposal sees strict monotheism take hold, with traditions of many divine beings edited down and angels taking the place of direct rule. It also claims the plural word Elohim was reread as the single YHWH. Karel van der Toorn (1999) and John L. McLaughlin (2000) both note that the Hebrew Bible already treats Elohim as singular in most places when it means the God of Israel.
Deuteronomy 32:8 is the proposal’s main example of editing. The KJV, following the Masoretic Text, ends the verse with “the children of Israel”. The Dead Sea Scroll 4Q37 reads “sons of God” instead, a variant discussed by Emanuel Tov and by Michael S. Heiser.

What the Proposal Takes From This
Its supporters see the biblical Elohim as a council from beyond the earth or from another dimension, whose early presence would explain why the oldest texts mix myth and history. Their going, in this view, left a gap that law, prophecy and scripture filled. It would also explain why later writers lament God’s silence, as in the Psalms and Lamentations.
A psalm asks why God hides.

Last, the proposal reads the later apocalyptic books, such as the Book of Enoch and Daniel, with their watchers, thrones and a coming return, as hopes that the divine rulers would come back. See also Elohim and the divine council.
