So it was that I arranged to travel by foot, cart, and camel with several of my Essene brothers, my daughter Aurianna, and some of my descendants. We joined a caravan of traders, and together with other immigrants, made our way by land to the Nile’s delta. Our destination was On, a temple complex mostly in ruin, around which many Hebrews still remained since the Exodus. They lived in clustered village homes made of sandstone and mud bricks. You know this area by its Greek name Heliopolis.

Hebrew Bible
In the Hebrew Bible, it is called On (אֹן) in Genesis (e.g., Genesis 41:45, where Joseph marries Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, priest of On). Some ancient translations (like the Septuagint) also insert “On” in Exodus 1:11 alongside the storage cities built by the Israelites.
Heliopolis was one of the most important religious centers in ancient Egypt. It featured a large temple complex dedicated primarily to the sun god Ra (or Re) and Atum. The site included major temples, obelisks (one of Sesostris I still stands), and sacred precincts. It served as the main cult center for solar worship in Egypt.

God’s Book of Eskra
Ra was the sun-god. He was the supreme divinity at On, or Heliopolis, near Memphis. His symbol was the solar disk, supported by two rings. He created all that exists below the heavens.

We go first to the great city on the sea named after the Greek general, Alexander, and then we take another boat with many oarsmen up the great river that you call the Nile to Heliopolis. I find it quite beautiful. There are many date groves and lush gardens and green fields with dazzling white sand dunes just beyond the narrow strip of fertile land.
There are the most amazing ancient structures built by the Pharaohs over the course of thousands of years. Now the Romans are there and they are changing the way the temples look. They have adopted some of the Egyptian ways of honouring the deities, especially Mother Isis.
