Plato, Blavatsky, Cayce, and Donnelly all link Atlantis’s destruction to a great flood. They describe it as a catastrophic event caused by moral corruption, misuse of technology, natural disasters, and flood myths across cultures.
And where do we find a story of a great flood in the Bible?
Genesis 7 – 10 narrates a story of (one of) the survivors of Atlantis: Noah.
Genesis 7 to 10 describes the story of Noah, the flood, and humanity’s renewal. God commands Noah to build an ark to save his family and pairs of all animals from a flood meant to cleanse the earth of wickedness. The floodwaters rise for 40 days, covering all land and destroying life outside the ark. After 150 days, the waters recede, and the ark rests on Mount Ararat. Noah releases birds to check for dry land and eventually leaves the ark to repopulate the earth. God establishes a covenant with Noah, symbolized by a rainbow, promising never to destroy the earth with a flood again. The chapters conclude with the genealogy of Noah’s sons and the spread of nations.
And there is more Atlantean legacy in the Bible:
The genealogy from Adam to Noah, including the ages at which each had their first son and their total lifespan:
- Adam: Seth at 130 years; lived 930 years.
- Seth: Enosh at 105 years; lived 912 years.
- Enosh: Kenan at 90 years; lived 905 years.
- Kenan: Mahalalel at 70 years; lived 910 years.
- Mahalalel: Jared at 65 years; lived 895 years.
- Jared: Enoch at 162 years; lived 962 years.
- Enoch: Methuselah at 65 years; lived 365 years (walked with God).
- Methuselah: Lamech at 187 years; lived 969 years.
- Lamech: Noah at 182 years; lived 777 years.
- Noah: Had Shem, Ham, and Japheth at 500 years; lived 950 years.
While the bible has been modified and syncretized, these years are peculiar and precise. It doesn’t make sense to us (yet).
In my opinion, there are other references in the bible. In Daniel 2, Revelation 18, and Jeremiah 51
But that’s not the direction I want to go. I want to look into the Great Flood stories, which is key to understanding Atlantis.
