Lemuria
The concept of Lemuria began with 19th-century zoologist Philip Sclater, who proposed a lost continent named Lemuria to explain the presence of lemur fossils in India and Madagascar but not in Africa. He suggested a land bridge once connected these regions, which later sank into the Indian Ocean.
Over time, the idea of Lemuria evolved beyond a simple land bridge. It became a mythical sunken continent similar to Atlantis, inhabited by advanced beings with psychic abilities.
The myth further transformed to propose that survivors from Lemuria migrated to what is now Mount Shasta in Northern California. They supposedly built an underground city called Telos beneath the mountain.
Described as a subterranean haven, Telos is said to be lit by an artificial sun and consists of multiple levels with hydronic gardens, schools, and a pyramid-shaped temple. The Lemurians are depicted as tall, glowing beings with psychic powers and advanced technology.
Mount Shasta
Mount Shasta is a prominent volcanic mountain in Northern California, part of the Cascade Range. It stands at 14,179 feet (4321.76 meters) and is known for its picturesque snow-covered peak.
Mount Shasta is considered a spiritual and mystical location by many. Native American legends and New Age beliefs attribute special powers and supernatural phenomena to the mountain.
Modern believers claim that the Lemurians established an underground city, Telos, beneath Mount Shasta after their continent sank.
The mountain is a hotspot for UFO sightings, with some suggesting extraterrestrial bases or portals to other dimensions.
Sightings of Bigfoot have also been reported in the area, adding to the mountain’s mysterious reputation.
Several unexplained disappearances in the region fuel speculation about hidden realms or supernatural causes, although these are often attributed to the rugged terrain.
Atlantis
Atlantis is perhaps the most famous mythical lost continent, first mentioned by the philosopher Plato. Described as a powerful and advanced civilization, it supposedly sank into the ocean in a single day and night of misfortune.
In some modern myths, Lemuria and Atlantis are linked as ancient civilizations that both possessed advanced technologies and psychic abilities. Some theories suggest that a cataclysmic event or war led to the destruction of both continents.
Both Atlantis and Lemuria have significantly influenced New Age spirituality. Believers often claim that these civilizations’ wisdom and technologies can still be accessed through spiritual practices and that remnants of their peoples might still exist in hidden or subterranean realms like Telos beneath Mount Shasta.
Influential Works and Theories
“A Dweller on Two Planets” by Frederick Spencer Oliver: This 19th-century book, claimed to be channeled by a spirit named Phylos the Tibetan, is one of the key sources linking Lemuria to Mount Shasta. It discusses advanced technologies and spiritual insights from the Lemurians.
Theosophy and Helena Blavatsky: Theosophy, a spiritual movement founded in the late 19th century, incorporated and expanded upon myths of Atlantis and Lemuria. It suggested these civilizations were part of human spiritual evolution.
Harvey Spencer Lewis and AMORC: In the 20th century, Lewis’s book “Lemuria: The Lost Continent of the Pacific” further popularized the myth. Published under the pseudonym Wishar S. Cerve, it described the Lemurians’ migration to Mount Shasta.
