The concept of Lemuria began with 19th-century zoologist Philip Sclater, who proposed a lost continent named Lemuria to explain the presence of lemur fossils in India and Madagascar but not in Africa.
The name comes from nineteenth-century zoologist Philip Sclater’s hypothesized Indian Ocean land-bridge.
