Across the pages of this site, the same four archangel names keep turning up in very different sources. Daniel and Revelation name them, the Book of Enoch sends them down against the Watchers, and the Book of Giants has them fighting the giants. Even channeled sources speak of them, and some place them in Atlantis.
I keep the readings side by side. The traditional reading, where the archangels are messengers of God, stays on it. So do the other readings, where they are composite beings, star beings or higher-dimensional intelligences. What follows is that list, page by page.
The four names
Four names come back in almost every source: Michael, Gabriel, Raphael and Uriel. Each one has its own page on this site.
- Michael: one of the chief princes and the commander of the heavenly hosts.
- Gabriel: the messenger who brings the news of John the Baptist and Jesus.
- Raphael: the healer, who travels with Tobias in the Book of Tobit.
- Uriel: the angel of light, who shows Enoch the courses of the luminaries.
Matias de Stefano reads each name as an aspect of God. For Michael he gives this meaning:
Translates to something akin to "protector of God," symbolizing God's strength and protection.
Matias de Stefano

For Raphael he gives a healing meaning:
Means "medicine of God" or "God heals," representing the healing power of God.
Matias de Stefano

Michael in the Bible
Michael is the archangel who fights. In Daniel he helps against the prince of Persia:
But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia.
Daniel 10:13
Michael and the dragon
In Revelation the fight moves to heaven itself. Michael and his angels go to war against the dragon and its angels:
Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.
Revelation 12:7
I read the dragon next to my page on the dragon as a symbol of the Sirian lineage. See also Michael for the Islamic and Gnostic views.
The archangels and the Watchers
The Book of Enoch gives the four archangels a role in the story of the Watchers. They see what happens on earth after the Watchers come down:
And then Michael, Uriel, Raphael, and Gabriel looked down from heaven and saw much blood being shed upon the earth, and all lawlessness being wrought upon the earth.
The Book of the Watchers
The Book of Giants tells the next step. W. B. Henning sums it up:
The Egrēgoroi and their giant progeny are fought and vanquished by four archangels: Raphael, Michael, Gabriel, and Istrael
W. B. Henning, "The Book of the Giants", p. 54

Sons of the Elohim
Some sources put the archangels inside the hierarchy of the Elohim. The Essene material in The Essenes: The Children of the Light calls them Beni Elohim:
The Tree of Knowledge certainly helped me to see how high the Elohim were – even archangels are called Beni Elohim – Sons of the Elohim.

See Elohim, Beni Elohim and The 12 Elohim.
Composite beings
A hypnosis session in A hypnotist’s journey to Avalon describes an archangel as a being too large for one body:
Due to the vastness of their energy field, an archangel may incarnate in multiple bodies at once.
A hypnotist's journey to Avalon
I collect that material on Each Archangel is made up of many souls. The same page has Diana Cooper’s view that Michael, Uriel, Raphael and Gabriel poured their rays onto Atlantis and fixed that energy under the ground.
Seraphim and cherubim
The archangels are not the only rank. On Seraphim I look at the six-winged beings that stand above the throne of God in Isaiah 6:1-7. The Apocryphon of John gives them a darker master:
Yaldabaoth has many faces. More than all that have been listed So he can convey any face he wants to the seraphim around him.
Apocryphon of John
The cherubim are stranger still. On Cherubim, a mechanical security device I follow the reading from The Prism of Lyra that the oldest cherubim in the Akkadian and Sumerian records were a kind of robot that guarded the areas of the gods. Read the Bible with that in mind and this verse sounds different:
He rode upon a cherub, and flew;
2 Samuel 22:11
And He was seen upon the wings of the wind.
The fallen ones
Where there are angels who stay, there are angels who leave. On Fallen Angels I collect the texts on those who left their place, from Genesis 6 to the letter of Jude:
And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day.
Jude 1:6
On Satan, a fallen angel or the devil? I follow how Satan came to be seen as the greatest of them, and how Revelation 12:9 calls him “that ancient serpent”.
Gabriel in Oahspe
The Oahspe Bible of 1882, written down by John Ballou Newbrough, tells a very different story of Gabriel. There he is also called Thoth. On Gabriel inspiring Mohammed he guides Mohammed and the founding of Islam, and on Gabriel rebels and sets up independent heavenly dominions he breaks away from Looeamong, the false Kriste.
"Now, for upward of a thousand years, the angel warrior, Gabriel, alias Thoth, had been to Looeamong his most faithful sub-God"
Oahspe, Chapter XLIX, verse 6
"Gabriel saith: There is a false God in heaven, and he hath falsely called himself, Kriste"
Oahspe, Chapter L, verse 10
Angels in Atlantis
In 1903 D. Bridgman-Metchim published Atlantis: The Book of the Angels. On The book of the Angels I follow his story of Azta and of Noah, who condemns the worship of the Fish-god and warns that Atlantis will be destroyed.
Metatron and the wider hierarchy
Metatron is not one of the four, but he sits high in the same hierarchy. In The Keys of Enoch he is the Lord of Light. See Metatron and The Keys of Enoch.
The videos add more angles:
- Angelic Hierarchy: Matias de Stefano says the archangels are aspects of God’s power, not people with wings.
- We Are In The Age of St Michael: Robert Gilbert says the Age of Michael began in 1879.
- The 12 Archangels of the Central Sun: Belinda Womack channels the 12 Archangels on the end of fear-based systems.
- KEYS 62 ANGELS: Robert Nelson reads on angels as defenders, guides and messengers.
- Archangel Michael Testimony: Chris Riley tells how he met Michael and saw a life review.
