Canaanites

Description: Descendants of Cain, the son of Adam who killed his brother Abel.

Literal Translation: ""And she brought forth Abel (Et-Hevel), his brother.

Abel became Guardian of the flocks, but Cain (Qayin) became a cultivator of the earth.""

Example: Genesis 4:2 - "וַיְהִי־הֶבֶל רֹעֵה צֹאן וְקַיִן הָיָה עֹבֵד אֲדָמָה׃" ("Abel was a keeper of flocks [צֹאן], but Cain was a tiller of the ground.")

And she again bare his brother Abel.

And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.”

The names Cain and Abel are Latin/English transliterations of the Greek names as found in the Septuagint (2,000 year old Greek translation of the Hebrew).

In Greek, Cain is Καιν (Kain) and Abel is Αβελ (Abel).

In Hebrew Cain is קין (qayin) and Abel is חבל (havel).

The Hebraic meanings of the names of "Cain and Abel" are windows into their characters.

Cain is a possessor, one who has substance while Abel is empty of substance.

Another interesting fact about these two that is often overlooked is that Cain and Abel are the first twins.

And again, she bore his brother Abel.

The Hebrew word for "again" is "asaph" meaning to add something, in this case the birthing of Abel was added to the birthing of Cain.

The death of Adam

Adam was consoled for the loss of Abel by learning to make wheat-bread.

Following Gabriel’s guidance, Adam plowed the land but encountered Abel's body.

After Abel's death and Cain's punishment, Eve bore Seth, who became the progenitor of prophets.

After the death of Abel, and after Cain had been slain by the avenging angel, Eve bore a third son, named Seth, who became the father of the race of the prophets.

Cain's Exile: After Cain kills Abel, he expresses fear of being killed by others, which La Peyrère argued implied the existence of other people who could harm him.

But as the plough was still arrested, Adam dug into the soil, and found that the iron had been caught by the body of his son Abel.

Biblical

Lamech

Seth is a son of Adam and Eve, introduced in Genesis as the child given to them after the death of Abel and the banishment of Cain.

Nag Hammadi Codex I

This lineage is part of the genealogy of Cain, the first son of Adam and Eve and the brother of Abel.

After killing Abel, Cain was marked by God and sent away from his family.

I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for injuring me.24 If Cain is avenged seven times, then Lamech seventy-seven times.”25 Adam made love to his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, “God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.”26 Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh.

25 Adam made love to his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, “God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.”

Abel from the Bible and Osiris from ancient Egyptian mythology share several thematic and narrative similarities, even though they come from very different cultural and religious backgrounds.

Both Abel and Osiris were killed by their brothers, which is a central element in their stories.

Abel was murdered by his brother Cain out of jealousy and anger, as documented in the Book of Genesis.

In their respective stories, both Abel and Osiris are portrayed as righteous and good figures, contrasting with the evil represented by their brothers.

Abel's sacrifice is favored by God over Cain's, indicating his moral superiority.

Abel's death leads to divine punishment and the marking of Cain, introducing themes of sin, punishment, and redemption in the biblical narrative.

Abel’s story, while not directly linked to specific afterlife themes, has been interpreted in later Christian traditions as a symbol of the martyr’s soul living on in heaven.

Biblical

Seth

Abel's soul passed into Seth and later into Moses

According to the Hebrew Bible, he had two brothers: Cain and Abel.

According to Genesis 4:25, Seth was born after Abel's murder by Cain, and Eve believed that God had appointed him as a replacement for Abel.

After Abel 's death, Seth is indicated as righteous by Judeo-Christian theology, in contrast to Cain.

The origin of the name ( שת ) is not clear, but it is assumed that it means named, because when she is born, Eve says: " ...God gave me ( שית ) another son in place of Abel; because Cain killed him.

-Abel was murdered

It was believed Abel's soul passed into Seth and later into Moses, ensuring the continuity of divine law.

Abel: Ruler of water and earth

The Hebrew name for Abel is Hevel (הֶבֶל).

Abel is a Biblical figure in the Book of Genesis within Abrahamic religions.

In the Gnostic text known as the Secret Book of John, Elohim is another name for Abel, whose parents are Eve and Yaldabaoth.

The Hebrew name “Hevel” (הֶבֶל) can be translated to mean “breath,” “vapor,” or “smoke.” The word conveys a sense of something fleeting or insubstantial, which aligns with the symbolic meaning often associated with Abel in biblical texts.

Chapter LXXVI – Cain becomes jealous of Abel because of his sisters.

3 But, as to Abel, he had a meek heart, and was obedient to his father and mother.

4 Then came this sign to Abel.

And Abel felt deeply about what his father told him.

After hearing that, Abel remained behind after his father left and stayed the whole of that night in the Cave of Treasures.

8 But as for Abel, he prayed to God, and drove away Satan from him; and did not believe the words of the devil.

9 Then when it was day, Abel came to Adam and Eve, and told them of the vision he had seen.

10 But as to the hard-hearted Cain, Satan came to him by night, showed himself and said to him, “Since Adam and Eve love your brother Abel so much more than they love you, they wish to join him in marriage to your beautiful sister because they love him.

Chapter LXXVII – Cain, 15 years old, and Abel 12 years old, grow apart.

2 He said also to Abel, “Take some of your sowing and make an offering and bring it to God, so that He might forgive you for your wickedness and sin.”

3 Then Abel obeyed his father’s voice, took some of his sowing, and made a good offering, and said to his father, Adam, “Come with me and show me how to offer it up.”

Then after that, they stood up and prayed that God would accept Abel’s offering.

5 Then God looked at Abel and accepted his offering.

And God was more pleased with Abel than with his offering, because of his good heart and pure body.

But Abel, by reason of his joy at having made his offering, repeated it three times a week, after the example of his father Adam.

9 And they all thus lived together in the cave in which Eve had brought forth, until Cain was fifteen years old, and Abel twelve years old.

Biblical

Enosh

According to Mandaean beliefs and scriptures including the Qolastā, the Book of John and Genzā Rabbā, Abel is cognate with the angelic soteriological figure Hibil Ziwa, (Classical Mandaic:‎, sometimes translated "Splendid Hibel"), who is spoken of as a son of Hayyi or Manda d-Hayyi, and as a brother to Anush (Enosh) and to Sheetil (Seth), who is the son of Adam.

In the Gnostic text known as the Secret Book of John, Elohim is another name for Abel, whose parents are Eve and Yaldabaoth.

Yaldabaoth deceptively named the two: Cain and Abel

According to Genesis 4:25, Seth was born after the death of Abel and Eve believed that he was appointed by God to establish a new offspring, replacing Abel, killed by Cain.

Abel, a shepherd, could symbolize the pastoralist stage of human society, where domestication of animals played a crucial role.

As a replacement for Abel, Seth often symbolizes restoration and continuity in biblical narratives.

They named the son Abel and the daughter Aklia.

Genesis 4

Cain and Abel

2 And again delivered another; Abel.

And Abel was the ruler of a Multitude but Cain was made a servant in the territory.

4 And Abel (the Breath) he also brought the firstborn of the Multitude; the best part and YHWH looked at Abel's tribute.

And Cain thought against Abel their brethen and in the wild Cain rose up against their brethen and killed them.

9 And YHWH told Cain how Abel their brethren intended to cohabit with each other for protection

And the Humans cohabited with the Ishshah still and brought forth aliens and called their name Seth, and the Elohiym regarded the foreign seed as beneath Abel because Cain killed them.

2 Later she gave birth to his brother Abel.

Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil.

4 And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock.

The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering,

8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.”[d] While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.

9 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I don’t know,” he replied.
