Paul wrote that sin came into the world through one man and from there reached everyone.
For years I had been reading channeled texts that tell a story much like it. In them a virus reaches Earth thousands of years ago and slowly gets into all of humanity.
At some point I started to wonder whether sin entered the world like a virus.
While reading these sources, I kept going back to Isaac La Peyrère. In 1655 this French theologian claimed that people lived on Earth long before Adam. I expected his reading of Paul to back up the virus idea. It did not, at least not the way I thought, and that is why he takes up most of this page.
What Paul says in Romans 5:12
It all comes back to one verse in Paul’s letter to the Romans, chapter 5, verse 12. La Peyrère wrote a whole book on that verse and the two that follow it.
I translated his Latin myself, and this is how the passage reads:
As through one man sin entered into the world, and through sin death, so also death passed into all men, in whom all sinned. 13. For until the law sin was in the world. But sin was not imputed, the law not existing. 14. But death reigned from Adam until Moses, even upon those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of the one to come.
Paul, Romans 5:12-14, in La Peyrère's Praeadamitae
When I first read it slowly, I saw the pattern. Something comes in at one point and then spreads to every person after it. To me that looked a lot like an infection.
The classic view: sin as an inherited infection
The church already had a name for this: original sin. Adam sinned, and every child born after him carries it.
La Peyrère quotes the theologians of his own time on it, and their word choice surprised me:
They call that sin, which is naturally inherent in all persons, a corruption, an infection, depravation, a sin sprung up, permanent, internal, natural, habitual.
Isaac La Peyrère, Theological System, Book 5, Chapter 4, in the 1656 English
So the word infection was already there in 1656, long before anyone channeled a virus. For these theologians, sin travels through the body from parent to child, like an illness a family never gets rid of.
La Peyrère: sin by decree, not by contagion
La Peyrère did not accept that picture. He separated the weakness people are born with from the guilt that comes from Adam:
The natural sins of men, are the very defaults of humane nature: the causes of which are not to be ascribed to the sins of Adam. Legal sin imputed to men by the sin of Adam, is additional. Conceived spiritually, and not propagated naturally
Isaac La Peyrère, Theological System, Book 1, Chapter 2 heading
The key word is imputed, which means the guilt is put on your account by a ruling, even though you did not do the act yourself.
As I understand him, Adam did not infect anyone. People were already weak before Adam, and his guilt was laid on them later by decree.
He is very direct about Paul’s words “by one man”:
By one man, says he, sin entered into the world. That by one man St. Paul afterwards explains, not by traduction from one man, and natural propagation, but by his disobedience, which is moral and spiritual
Isaac La Peyrère, Theological System, Book 5, Chapter 5
Traduction is the old term for passing something on through birth. That is exactly the route La Peyrère shuts.
He even uses sickness as his example:
They know also that none will ascribe that to the unserchable judgments of God, that a sickly man begets a sickly man, that a diseased person begets a diseased person: But that comes not by miracle, but by nature, and an ordinary way
Isaac La Peyrère, Theological System, Book 5, Chapter 4
For him an illness in the family is just nature at work, while Adam’s sin belongs to the mystery of God’s law.
The law given to Adam
Where does sin come in, then? La Peyrère points to a law:
That law of God was the law which made Adam, and in him all men, sinners, guilty, and rebellious. Through it sin entered into the world. Through it all men sinned. Through it death passed into all men.
Isaac La Peyrère, Exercise on Romans 5, Chapter 2, translated from the Latin by me
I cannot read that without thinking of paleo-contact. That is my shorthand for the idea that the gods in the old texts were real beings who came here and ruled early people.
Mauro Biglino reads the Elohim of Genesis as exactly such rulers, and Paul Wallis reads the Eden story as a record of how they dealt with humans. Seen that way, the law given to Adam is an order from a ruler, and breaking it brought a sentence on his whole group.
That matches La Peyrère closely, because a sentence spreads by decree and not by touch.
I have collected his men before Adam, together with other accounts of them, on the Pre-Adamites.
The channeled virus: an energy virus 25,000 years ago
Then I went back to the channeled side. Cobra, a source who writes under that code name about a hidden war over Earth, said this in a 2020 interview:
It is actually a type of energy virus which has infected humanity 25,000 years ago.
Cobra, interview with the Sisterhood of the Rose, 2020
Behind this virus Cobra places the Archons, the rulers of the material world in the old Gnostic texts. I gathered what my sources say about them on What Are Archons?.
His virus is no decree. In the same interview he says these entities need people physically close together to keep themselves alive, which is how a real infection behaves.
Oahspe: angels of darkness carry virus
The oldest channeled text I found on this is Oahspe. John Ballou Newbrough published it in 1882 and said his hand wrote it while another intelligence guided it, which is called automatic writing.
In the Book of Judgment, the voice of Jehovih says:
so also can virus and pestilence be carried by angels of darkness to cast mortals in death.
Oahspe, Book of Judgment
In the Book of Wars against Jehovih, Osiris, one of the false gods, gives orders to Pluton-ya:
then should thou suffer your * spirits to carry virus and inoculate mortals unto death; or to fill the city with epidemic air, well poisoned, throwing mortals into fevers so they should die.
Oahspe, Book of Wars against Jehovih
This passage stopped me. Here a ruler gives the order first, and only after that do spirits carry the virus to people. In Oahspe the decree and the infection work together.
Dreamspell: the virus of the dark entities
A third source takes the virus back to our own solar system. In March 2017 Mahala wrote about it in her Planet Alert, drawing on the book Dreamspell: The Journey of Timeship Earth 2013 by José and Lloydine Argüelles:
This book says that the origins of the virus from the dark entities started when the time bandits of Jupiter and Saturn wanted to take over our local star system.
Mahala, Planet Alert Special Edition, Mid-March 2017
In this version the virus is older than people on Earth, and it starts with an attempt from outside to take over.
Contagion or decree: two ways darkness entered
Once I had all these texts open side by side, I kept sorting them into two piles.
Cobra, the Dreamspell account and the theologians of 1656 all describe something passed from one person to the next.
La Peyrère sees it differently. For him God’s law put guilt on everyone at once, and it even reached back to the people who lived before Adam.
Oahspe does not fit either pile. A ruler gives the order, and then the virus goes out.
This is where I have landed for now. Paul’s verse looks like an infection, but La Peyrère made me see that this does not yet tell us how sin spread. The paleo-contact reading and Oahspe suggest that a ruler decided it and someone else carried it out.
Fear as the virus today
What does this mean for us today? In my August 2024 Update I wrote down this line from Eluna:
Fear is seen as a virus infecting human consciousness, and overcoming it is essential for evolution.
Eluna, in Atlantis tech and material growth
If the darkness came in as a virus, then fear is how it keeps spreading. If it came by decree, then a new decree can lift it. Either way, I think the work starts with my own fear.
About the source
La Peyrère published Praeadamitae in Latin in 1655, and the English translation, Men before Adam, came out in 1656. The book was condemned and burned in Paris. You can read the full text on La Peyrère’s Praeadamitae and my review on Isaac La Peyrère’s Praeadamitae (1655).
FAQ
Does the Bible say sin is a virus? No. Paul says sin entered the world through one man and death passed into all men. The theologians who taught original sin called it an infection.
What did La Peyrère say about original sin? He said Adam’s sin was imputed to all people by God’s law. He said it was not passed on by birth.
Which channeled sources speak of a virus that entered Earth? Cobra speaks of an energy virus that infected humanity 25,000 years ago. Oahspe describes angels of darkness carrying virus to mortals. Dreamspell, as summarised by Mahala, traces the virus to the time bandits of Jupiter and Saturn.
