Before we look into the event or events that destroyed Atlantis, I want to set the scenario:
Atlantis is typically described as an island.
However, in the years before the destruction, the Atlantean Empire had colonies in many places worldwide.
I was familiar with Noah’s great flood story, but then I discovered that almost every culture has a great flood story. There are over 300 Great Flood stories worldwide. One by one the reveal a piece of what once was a mighty empire.
Let’s look into the Great Flood story of Berossus:
Berossus, called Bêl-re’ušunu in cuneiform documents, was a very important official: he was šatammu, head of the temple organization, between 258 and 253 BCE.
[53] In the second book, Berossus records the ten kings and the length of their reigns, 120 saroi or 432,000 years until the Great Flood. […]
Cronus appeared to Xisuthrus in a dream, warning of a flood on the fifteenth of Daisios. He instructed him to bury tablets in Sippar, build a boat, and board it with family, friends, animals, and provisions. When asked about his destination, Xisuthrus was to say he was going to pray to the gods. The ship, 1000 meters (3280 feet) long and 400 meters (1312 feet) wide, was built as commanded.
After the flood, Xisuthrus released birds. The first returned with no sign of land, the second with mud, and the third did not return, signaling dry land. The ship rested on a mountain. Xisuthrus, his family, and the steersman disembarked, worshiped, and sacrificed to the gods. He then disappeared with his companions. Those remaining heard a divine voice instructing them to honor the gods, retrieve the buried tablets in Sippar, and return to Babylonia. Xisuthrus and his companions were said to have joined the gods.
The ship rested in Armenia, where fragments of it are kept as charms. The survivors dug up the tablets in Sippar, rebuilt Babylonia, and constructed cities and temples.

I like this story because of some valuable details. For me, the precise measurement of the ship reveals advanced technology, and the return to Babylonia proves that there was a Babylon during Atlantean times. This aligns with Jeremiah 51 and Revelation 18:
63 When you finish reading this book, tie a stone to it and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates, 64 and say, ‘Thus shall Babylon sink, to rise no more, because of the disaster that I am bringing upon her, and they shall become exhausted.’”
