I read J. Ben Leslie’s Submerged Atlantis Restored in the Cornell University Library scan, GN 751.L63, from the Charles William Wason Collection. The title page prints Rochester, N. Y., the Austin Publishing Company, and 1911. Under the English title it prints an Atlantian line glossed LINKS AND CYCLES. The copyright page prints Copyright, 1911, by J. Ben Leslie, and the press of the Bates Printing Company, 46 Stone Street, Rochester, N. Y. A portrait page is signed “Yours in search of truth, J. Ben Leslie.” The preface closes “J Ben Leslie.” The last page closes “J. BEN. LESLIE.” I use J. Ben Leslie. The title-page year is 1911, so I treat the book as public domain and set his own sentence under a date, place, or event I would compare.

The scan has 832 file pages. Printed numbers run through 807. Early in the body the printed number sits about ten below the file page: file page 27 is printed 17, and file page 90 is printed 80. Plates widen the gap. File page 538 is printed 520. The book closes on file page 825 at printed 807. I cite the printed numbers. This is not a novel. It is a clairvoyant and clairaudient record, cut, he says, from manuscripts that would have made 1,300 pages.

I will set his Atlantic dates and races where a reader can put them beside Plato’s Timaeus and Critias, Spence’s History of Atlantis, Spence’s Problem of Atlantis, Spence’s Occult Sciences in Atlantis, and Donnelly’s Atlantis: The Antediluvian World. I do not copy their kings, metals, or colonies into his lists. He quotes Plato on matter, not as a witness to the island. Phelon’s Our Story of Atlantis is another spirit-medium book. I do not use it as a source for these names. This book does not name Mu or Lemuria, so I do not file it with Churchward’s Mu. The range Mu’tl-ze and the people Mu’ti-zes are names inside his Atlantic map.

The book at a glance

  • Title: Submerged Atlantis Restored, with the Atlantian gloss Links and Cycles. Austin Publishing Company, Rochester, N. Y., 1911. Printed through page 807.
  • How he says he got it: About 3,000 pre-historic and non-historic terms. About two-thirds came to Mrs. C. C. Van-Duzee from Alem Prolex, one of four Atlantian spirits, at private seances. The remaining third came to the author from Ku-li-u’thiis, a Phoenician spirit who had lived in Phinea, along the shores and west of the Dead Sea. English “or” and the intransitive “is” have no Atlantian terms. A terminal accent often marks a plural.
  • The three speaking roles he assigns: Erothrodia Prolex gives geography, geology, botany, zoology, and birds, and opens the continent chapter. Zerecha Yermah gives the alphabet, the calendar, and the monuments. Alem Prolex, Del’zo or chief Atlantian spirit director, and third Efremetrum of the Lontidri, gives government, religion, much of the ethnology, and the flood account.
  • The continent: The Lontidri of Atlantis, six Teltzie, Et, We, Set, Ket, Zret, and Sot, treated as sections 1 through 6. He says they correspond relatively to the divisions of states in the United States. A salt river, the Am’i-zone Ri’ger, runs north to south west of the Azores and east of the Bermudas, and he derives the Amazon from that name.
  • The dates he wants remembered: Gan-de’ro, a Teltzie south of historic Sot, submerged about 22000 years ago. Ten convulsions begin about 18875 years ago. He subtracts 5500 years from 22000 and leaves the whole Lontidri under water 16500 years ago. Egypt’s golden age sits between 10,000 and 12,000 B. C. About 1000 years after Atlantis, nine convulsions occupy about 4500 years in the West Indies, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean.
  • What he will not smooth: Flag colors, money sizes, section races, and Biblical glosses stay in the order and the spelling of the page, including Ket’s two flag colors, the nut chapter’s extra species, Able for the brother of Cain, Gayman beside a later Cayman, and Adomic beside one Adamic.

Findings worth setting beside other writers

  • Six named sections, not one undifferentiated island: Et, We, Set, Ket, Zret, Sot. The capitol of the whole, and of Et, is Atara. At the end he still names a governor for each section (pp. 64, 84, 519-520).
  • Gan-de’ro, the Lost Lontidri, is a separate southern Teltzie, already gone when the historic six remain. He dates that first loss about 22000 years ago, by tradition handed to the third Efremetrum (p. 80).
  • The ten convulsions are local, dated by interval, and tied to named ranges. The tenth, at the Jan’ti-ze near Atara, coincides with the inland sea and the northern bay. A last island then sinks by the washing out of sand, not by another convulsion. His own subtraction leaves 16500 years ago (pp. 81-82).
  • The republic is a Stel’za. The Efremetrum serves one hundred years, or life if shorter. Three dynasties, about three hundred years: Galthaza, Goetlez, Alem Prolex. Before that, he says, the people were more or less uncivilized and self-governing (p. 520).
  • Money is not gold or silver. Five cylinders of Getrex, from a black and white crystal, are priced at 25 cents, 50 cents, 1 dollar, 1 dollar and 25 cents, and 2 dollars. The diameters do not step with those prices (p. 522).
  • The national flag has six right-oblique colors, and each section drops colors. Ket is printed with two, Zret with orange only, Sot plain white. The standards do not repeat the flag count: We has three bands (pp. 523, 525).
  • Mounds and caves, he says, held data of more than 1000 years before the first Efremetrum (p. 523). The year is civil, 12 months of 28 days, 336 days, plus an intercalary Ez-re-mance’ (p. 180).
  • Egypt between 10,000 and 12,000 B. C., the Pyramid of Abu-Roash between 9700 and 9000 B. C., and the Shemozan, or Sphinx, at Gizeh credited to two Atlantian rulers who bear the name Atlantis (p. 243).
  • Gontheole is his lone man behind Adam. Ge-lin’get is the man the Biblical narrative represents as Noah. The rain lasts about sixty days and nights. He calls the Ark a myth (the Turkey chapter, from p. 605).
  • About 1000 years after the submergence, nine convulsions over about 4500 years make the West Indies, the Gulf, and the Caribbean (p. 796). He then says he left out the general South America chapter and prints a compressed list instead (pp. 804-805).
  • Mu’tl-ze is a range from Hayti toward Honduras and Nicaragua, embracing Jamaica. Mu’ti-zes are a division of Teltzie Zret who migrated from Teltzie Et. Neither is a Pacific continent. Lemuria is absent.

Preface

The preface sends the book out as inspirations, impressions, manifestations, and revelations received with clairvoyant and clairaudient aid. He wants philosophy to blend into science so that phenomena can reach mortal senses. The nomenclature paragraph is the working rule for everything after it. About two-thirds of the terms were received by Mrs. C. C. Van-Duzee from Alem Prolex. The remaining third were received by the author from Ku-li-u’thiis. There will be no grammar and no vocabulary. Pronunciation is to be taken from the accented syllables and the vowel marks as they stand in the sections. Plurals are often shown by putting the accent at the end of the word. He says a few errors will be corrected in the next edition. The preface is signed on the page numbered 13. It states the method of the book. It does not yet locate a city, a range, or a convulsion.

A short biography of Mrs. Carrie C. Van Duzee

The heading prints VAN DUZEE. The paragraph prints Mrs. Carrie C. Van-Duzee, born in the New York town the scan reads as Gouveneur, on November 25, 1828. She began as a healer in Erie, Pa., in the spring of 1872, operating as a Ca-cel’la, a spirit sensitive. In 1876 she began lecture service, parlor gatherings and the rostrum, trance, clairvoyant and clairaudient work, tests, and private readings. She retired in 1901 after twenty-five years and twenty-four states. When “Light for Thinkers” was established in Atlanta, Ga., Hon. A. C. Ladd, president of the company, and W. C. Bowman, editor, chose her as message receiver.

In 1906 she joined the author. He says ancient spirits had inspired him with the idea and the title some two years earlier and had already designed and written parts of the book. The joint work ran four years and more. A handwritten plate sits between the biography pages. The rest is his account of her character and of testimonials he says he has at hand. The biography adds no Atlantic geography. It fixes the human end of the sittings.

In recognition of spirit revelation

The verse thanks guides for links from home-lands long submerged by oceans and seas. It names A-lem Pro-lex and Erothrodia, written in the line with the vowels the scan breaks, and with them Ze-re-cha, Yer-mah, and An-sta-ci-a. The preface had counted four Atlantian spirits and named Alem Prolex. The poem names five guides. I leave both counts. The poem adds the claim that submerged sands still hold the records. It gives no date and no section name.

Teltzie I. Re-me’na, or Beginning

Re-me’na opens in verse: the speaker always was, is now, and ever shall be, because creation and evolution are perpetual. The same opening names three elements, Nencie (time), space, and life, co-operating, eternal, and immaterial, with an unknown beginning or ending. The life-name on that first line is broken in the scan. Later pages print Lemaz for space and Wotz for life. He then sets the Over Spirit or Life as the animating force, the Over Soul as the medium through which it operates, Substance or Matter as the foundation of form, and Natural Law as governing extension and growth. On the printed page of the opening he brings in Anaxagoras of Clazomine, one intelligence set against plural gods, and Zeno, who taught two original principles, that which acts and that which is acted upon. On the next page the name Antonenus recognizes one common Bar’der, substance, distributed among countless bodies. Plato, speaking of material things, says that nothing ever is but is always becoming. I do not treat that sentence as an Atlantis testimony. He leaves the Biblical narrative of creation unquoted. The chapter is cosmology and verse. It adds no Atlantic place, no flood date, and no race.

Teltzie II. The Greater Depths

The contents title is The Greater Depths, the Supreme Cycle, epi-cycles and links, and poems on the Over Spirit, the Over Soul, and spirit, soul, and matter. The body continues the same cycle language. An illustration index entry, “The Supreme Cycles, Epi-cycles and Links,” is placed at the opening. Nothing here is a sunken land. The chapter adds no Atlantis, Mu, Lemuria, flood, or Antediluvian claim.

Teltzie III. Influence of the Over Spirit in Life Material

He writes on the spirit of animation and on cognition by the senses, in poetry. The illustration index puts an epi-cycle of Life Material with this teltzie. It adds no Atlantic geography and no flood.

Teltzie IV. Influence of the Over Spirit in Space Measurable

The subject is the spirit of extension. The speaking quality says it conveys Bar’der Sul-ma’ce-a, substance or matter, into space, and qualifies it with length, breadth, thickness, or ultimate form. The index pairs the teltzie with an epi-cycle of Space Measurable. It adds no Atlantis, Mu, Lemuria, flood, or Antediluvian claim.

Teltzie V. Influence of the Over Spirit in Time Divisible

The subject is the spirit of duration, with a poem on the eclipse of life. The poem speaks of cataclysms submerging records of greatness. That is a figure in the verse, not a dated loss of a named Teltzie. The dated submergences begin in Teltzie X. This chapter adds no place and no year.

Teltzie VI. The Planets and their Space Zone Conditions

Here he starts naming planets, and he does not make the list match a later schoolbook row. I keep his pairs.

Klum is the Sun, electric fire, and also Wenz, radiant centre of spiritual development. Con-cen’su is Mercury, electric light, a beautiful blue, with no night comparable to Earth’s. Re-low’ is Venus, activity, a deep blue. Cret-low’ is Earth, circular motion or orbit, also Len’-ze-ly, real mother of individualized life and form, rosy shading to crimson. Cel-e-met’ is Mars, density, also Mez’miis, a trinity of developing forces, male, female, and child, a golden hue. He says Mars is the only planet besides Earth with material or physical birth. Lu-e-et’ is Jupiter, transparency, a deep orange. Le-o-let’ is Saturn, to encircle, with great liquid upheavals, an emerald or transparent green.

El-the’er is atmosphere. Ku-let’ is orbit. Ga’la, or Gala, is light in its greatest force of purity. The chapter is planetary nomenclature. It does not yet put a city on the Atlantic floor. It adds no Mu and no Lemuria.

Teltzie VII. The Greater Heights

The contents give this teltzie the influence of the Over Spirit in life spiritual, The Greater Heights, and a poem, at printed page 50. The body does not print a “TELTZIE VII” line. The English title stands. He continues from Mars through the higher planets and the Earth’s origin of form.

Ke-ren’cy is Uranus, ultimate, also Ce-rel’zer, a white light slightly tinged with yellow, and its motion is reverse. Spirits must return from Uranus to Earth’s zone before passing to Neptune. Me-lu’ne-a is Neptune, also A-re-an’ther, the last planet he says earth dwellers recognized, a brilliant light. The scan also splits the Neptune name. Re-ple’si-a, or Replesia, is the central planet of the next higher zodiac. Alem Prolex is said to treat a departure from Neptune toward Replesia as an argument against material or physical re-incarnation. In the same stretch of the greater heights, spirit Epictetus, the Greek philosopher, is said to have shown clairvoyantly how minute particles gathered into the human form.

The chapter stays in that planetary and spiritual register. It adds no Atlantic section, no flood year, and no Antediluvian people.

Teltzie VIII. The Great Continent of Atlantis

Erothrodia opens the geography. The Lontidri is divided into six Teltzie: Et, We, Set, Ket, Zret, and Sot, or sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. He says the division corresponds relatively to the state divisions of the United States. A map of Atlantis is indexed at printed page 63, just before this teltzie. The cities follow at once. I keep his spellings, including Kistrez, Kistred, and Kistrex as each sentence prints the word for capitol.

In Teltzie Et he names Bei’treh, a place for invalids, with the Lukret O-zen’ti-o, sulphur and warm, meaning light and heat, and the springs O-pen’ti-o and Tel-mes’ze. Quirt’ze makes furniture. Ke-ren’te-ze is wealthy, with schools and canals he compares to Venice. Jes-tesie, or Ush Aistie ze Fe’ste, the City of Light, uses electric vapor and the dynamic force of natural electricity. Crey-los’to, on the Kentry Riger, is for education. The Kistrez of Et and of the whole Lontidri is Atara, held for the capitol chapter.

In Teltzie We, Neitz is the Kistrez, in the northeast, east of Quintro and north of the Skeit, and it is governmental. Gi-e’tro stands near the Amizone, on summits he says are now Iceland. It was built on a hamlet of San’de-ens, a word he glosses aboriginal, from the northeast, and he says that people became extinct by mixture. After Yermah became Deltsanz he established schools there. De-sen’trow works metals, Kurg iron and U’zie gold, builds Ar-i-de’te boats, cuts Yel’maz canals, and has a temple on the foot-hills of Tu’te-ron.

In Teltzie Set, Hu’litz is the Kistrez, in the southwest, west of the Amizone. En-id-ids’tro is the principal city, with a hexagonal pelzo, a wave-shaped roof, an equestrian warrior statue, and a council chamber for war. He calls the people war-like. Al-mor-thea, later printed Almor-thia, is commerce and music, with a great instrumental factory, near Desento. Al-maza builds in clay.

In Teltzie Ket, Ha’drey is the Kistred, in the northwest, east of the Lukret Gonzela, with garden homes of 3 to 5 acres, and the people are sun-worshippers. Mie-zie-to’ry, on the southeast boundary, is built of white Kintlin stone, like limestone but pure white, and has Ce-gel’let mineral water. Ni’ol-ty, west of the Deze, is a manufacturing city. Its famous Zi’te mosaic includes a medallion of a lady, a rising sun, and a pelzo as Mother Wisdom.

Teltzie Zret is more tropical. Wex’tra, the Kistrez, sits in the eastern central part, southeast of the Te-ra-es’tin Lukret, on the Tynger of Al-e-lo’os between Meztrie and Gen-le’ce-i. Roofs are flat, the cupola is diamond-shaped, the Geel of the Teltzie flies there, and the place is a winter resort. Worship is the same as at Atara. Go-lon’zo is a small city on the site of Vera Cruz. He predicts a future convulsion that will destroy that city. An-tri’tha stands on the west side of the Amizone near its outlet into the Southern Ocean, east of the Cape of St. Roque. Tel’ta A’eta air ships are built there. Lis-tri’o grows Can’tu-lus, a fruit like the grape, and makes El-di’so, a drink he says is not fermented. He compares the customs to those of modern Germans.

In Teltzie Sot, Ge’trex is the Kistrex, east of Yel’pet and north of O-tes’sen, at a junction he places at St. Helena. He calls it crude and half civilized, the most southerly races. I-e’dri is fisheries. Habitations are adobe-like and mud-and-stick. He says the northern portion of that settlement was more intelligent than American Indians. One sentence in this city chapter places Berundia peak, now Bermuda, in Teltzie Kret. The range chapter ties the Bermuda peaks to the junction of ranges in Zret. I leave both printed placements.

Teltzie IX. Rivers, bays, and the inland sea

Erothrodia continues with rivers. The Am’i-zone Ri’ger is the greatest salt-water river. It runs from the Arctic through the continent from north to south, west of the Azores and east of the Bermudas, to the remnant he identifies with the Amazon. He says the modern name descended from Amizone with only an orthographic change, and the outlet was the South Atlantic. The river is the dividing line between the eastern and western hemispheres of the Lontidri. The Des-wi’trie falls near the Azores peaks: about 80 feet (24.38 meters), then a canon of palisaded rocks for two miles, then a second fall of about 160 feet (48 meters).

The De’ze Riger is fresh water from the Greenland region through Teltzie Ket to the Amizone, east of Miezietory. The Kentry Riger is fresh water from the Skeit terranze in Teltzie We, north of the British Islands and west of Norway, through eastern Teltzie Et, into the Alt-lack’er, the South Atlantic, east of Almorthia.

The Ex’a-tron is a great Prish, or bay, from the Tret-zel’za, the Arctic, about three leagues wide, northwest of Norway and Sweden. The Amizone is about three leagues wide at the junction. The Re-tex-e-ri’ton is the Coliete Celet, an inland sea in the northeastern Lontidri, west of Portugal and Morocco. It is thermal, from medium heat to cooking heat. Scientists of that time said a subterranean sulphurous volcano would admit the water and explode. He says that condition, together with the same condition in the Exatron Prish, caused the ultimate sinking. The convulsion ran from Norway and Sweden to the straits. The scan of this passage reads the straits as Gibralter. A later Europe page splits the same name as Gibral-ter. I do not normalize it to the modern spelling.

Before that convulsion, a stream in line with the Baltic and the White Seas made Norway and Sweden an island of the Arctic. The Che-ra’da Aelkedze, which he says is now the Orhay range, kept that section up. At the convulsion the valley between the Baltic and the White Seas rose, and the former island joined Europe. Erothrodia says the same volcanic condition now exists under the westerly waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Teltzie X. Ranges, valleys, lakes, Gandero, and the convulsions

The ranges are a list, and he does not draw them as one clean system. I keep the order and the names as printed.

The Jan’tl-ze, also Jan’ti-ze, has peaks he identifies with the Azores, Madeira, the Canaries, and the remnant Atlas in Morocco and Algeria. He says that but for the Mediterranean submergence the range would join Europe and Asia, and that the link is broken at Sicily and lower Italy. He then traces ranges on around the globe by way of Asia, the Aleutians, and the Rockies, back toward the Bermudas.

The Gu-il’I-to, later Gurilito, runs from western Teltzie Et in a zig-zag east to the Jantize. The Yel’pet takes in Cape Verde, Ascension, St. Helena, and Tristan d’Acunha, which is his spelling. The O-tes’sen runs from the Cameroon Mountains into the Lontidri, with the Gulf of Guinea islands and the St. Helena peaks. The Ben’te-ze runs from the Bermuda peaks to Newfoundland. The Lu’ti-ze runs from the Bermudas to Virginia and Chesapeake Bay. The Miezie-to-ry runs from the Bermuda peaks to the north-central border of Teltzie Ket. The Helt’zy runs from Bermuda southwest to Florida and northeast to southwest Teltzie Ket. The Gen-le’ce-I runs from Guiana to near Berundia Peak. The U-zazac runs from the Bermudas to Cape Hatteras.

The Mez’trie is a Sierra Madra branch, his spelling, to the Rocky Cordillera, through Yucatan, Hayti, Porto Rico, and the Caribee Islands. The Mu’tl-ze runs from Hayti to Honduras and Nicaragua, embracing Jamaica. That is a range name. It is not a continent called Mu. The Quin’tro is a crescent from Ireland to Iceland. The Skeit runs from Scotland north to islands west of Norway, with a valley between those islands and Iceland. The Tu’te-ron runs from eastern-central Set through central We to western Iceland. The Tis-ciin’da, or Tiscuda, runs north-central to west-central Set from the Tuteron. The Re-e’ta runs from southwest Greenland, meandering into northwest Teltzie Ket. The Trix’uh-lee runs southeast from the central Reeta in Ket. The Ep’za is a branch of the Zentulu into southwest Teltzie Et. The Zen’te-lu runs northwest to southeast through Zret, with the valley Ce-de-le’she between its northwest and the Bermuda peaks.

He treats the West Indies as peaks of ranges in submerged South Atlantis, and the Caribees as remnants of the Gasibbee range. Za-may’ca Heights are Jamaica, from springs of that name. He says the aborigines changed the name to Jamaica, the isle of springs, and that Xamayca in modern writings is a term re-inspired by an Atlantian spirit. The Gayman Islands, his spelling, were Mutize peaks. The Swan Islands belonged to the Andes. A Tynger of Yamayca or Xamayca went down, which is his explanation of the depth there. Din’gis is Cuba, the name given by aborigines, and the main portion of the Meztrie. The Bahamas are part of the Meztrie leading to the Tynger of Za-o’ne-a. Berundia peak is the highest of four ranges west of the Tynger of Atara. On Tristan d’Acunha the larger island is Kendrew and the smaller is Ill’te-ze. He believes Yelpet extended there. Other islands between these and Africa, two of them inhabited, were all lost.

The valleys he names are Shel’te-ze, De-ru’fres, Reeta, Ze-e’tra, Tre-ze’kre, E’ken, and Quin’tro. The lakes are Op’site north of Atara, Sked’ze to the west, and Zi’de to the south, in Et; Wilt’ze in the northwest of We and Seeth in south-central We; Cret’ze in the northwest of Set and Mi-i’t in the east of Set; Gon-ze’la, the largest, in the northwest of Ket, and La-man’sa in south-central Ket; Te-ra-es’tin in central Zret; Gil’da in the northeast of Sot and Or’zer in the northwest of Sot.

Minerals stay in his pairs. The Zentelu has Cle’tie, silver. Miezietory Kint’lin, the white stone, becomes Sig-ni’ti, white marble, toward Berundia, and then gray, purple, black, and yellow, used for Zi’te mosaic. Quintro and Skeit have Bezer, salt. Reeta and Miezietory have Ze’lete, zinc. E’trez, copper, with Zelete makes Ate’ley, gold-colored. Etrez with U’ze, gold, is lighter and less valuable. The Jantize has Uzie, Cletie, and I-re’iz, sulphate of zinc. The Lutize has Ye-e’tra, brass, and O-e’tra, lead. Neu’ziiu or Nuzuu, agate, occurs in blue, green, orange, and purple. One government Pelu, or mine, of black crystalline Nuzuu was used for Getrex, the money. He also says they did not use Cletie and Uzie for Getrex. The Sot ranges were never prospected. The money chapter later derives Getrex from Zin’de-lete. I keep both statements on their own pages.

The Gandero tradition is the first hard date.

About 22000 years ago, according to the traditions that were handed down to the Atlantian people of the third Efremetrum, a Teltzie of the pre-historic period of Atlantis, south of their historic Teltzie Sot, and of the southeastern extremity of Teltzie Zret, had been submerged by the waters of the then great Xa-ma'thray (original name of the South Atlantic Ocean, meaning great body of water), which was caused by convulsions in that section.

J. Ben Leslie. Submerged Atlantis Restored (1911), p. 80

The name of the submerged Teltzie was Gan-de'ro, or the Lost Lontidri, as it was said to have been a large portion of country.

J. Ben Leslie. Submerged Atlantis Restored (1911), p. 80
J. Ben Leslie. Submerged Atlantis Restored (1911), p. 80

About 18875 years ago, which he calls 3125 years subsequent, ten mighty periodical convulsions began. The main Lontidri remained until the tenth, when all went down. The intervals, as printed on the next page, are these. The second came about 800 years after the first, northeast of Berundia Peak, in Teltzie Zret. The third came about 500 years after the second, at the junction of the southeast Yelpet and the southwest Otessen, in Teltzie Sot, north of St. Helena, and submerged part of Sot by the Xamathray. The fourth came about 50 years after the third, in the northwest of Sot. The fifth came about 400 years after the fourth, at Tuteron and Tiscuda, in north-central Set. The sixth came about 100 years after the fifth, at Quintro and Skeit, in Teltzie We, where the Amizone burst through. The seventh came about twenty-five years after the sixth, in the northwest of Skeit, west of Norway. The eighth came about 200 years after the seventh, in the northwest of Gelutic and the southeast of Trixuhlee, in Teltzie Ket. The ninth came about 100 years after the eighth, at Trixuhlee and Reeta. The tenth came about 100 years after the ninth, at the Jantize near Atara, simultaneous with convulsions in the Coliete Celet and in the northern prish. A high remnant island was left standing. After another 100 years it sank because the sands washed out, not because of a further convulsion.

On page 82 he adds the interval from Gandero to the start of the ten as 3125 years, the convulsions as 2375 years, and the total as 5500. He then takes 22000 minus 5500 and prints 16500 years ago as the time when the Lontidri as a whole became submerged. That sentence is set with long dashes, so I do not quote it. Adding the intervals he prints, 800, 500, 50, 400, 100, 25, 200, 100, and 100, and the further 100 years of undermining, gives 2375, which is the span he prints for the convulsions.

Teltzie XI. Atara, the capitol city

The contents put Atara, the capitol building, the Menglotio Park, and the great fountain at printed page 84. The subject is the capitol, not the government teltzie that begins at printed page 519. Atara is the Kistrez of the Lontidri and of Teltzie Et, west of the Jantize, between the lukrets Atara, Ozentio, and Seeth. The name dates from the beginning of the first Efremetrum. He says the first dynasty mixed immigrants and races, the second produced a more beautiful intellectual race, and at the close of the third the people numbered over one million if the area is taken from the Ceitux Heltroplox in the Jantize to the Opsite Kelete. A map of Atara is indexed at printed page 83. I do not turn the council seating into a ritual I have not copied line by line. The capitol, the park, and the fountain are the public works this teltzie is built to describe.

Teltzie XII. The flowers of Atlantis

From here through the birds, Erothrodia’s method is a cycle of life whose deferent has broken links. Families are set beside modern classes, orders, genera, and species. Mosses are passed by. The floral example I tracked is Am’wa, a semi-aquatic plant like the Liliaceae, with the species Jelt, five bright pink petals, Gist, a medium purple, and E-que’tre, white and orange, the sacred symbol of Gala. Spotted lilies come from an amalgamation in the latter part of what this chapter calls the Adamic Period. Elsewhere he usually prints Adomic. Rou’ce is aquatic, like Nympha or water-lilies, in four varieties by color. The chapter’s Atlantic claim is that these plants grew on the Lontidri and left border-land remnants. I do not recast the rest of the flower list into a cleaner botany.

Teltzie XIII. The flower vines and shrubs of Atlantis

The vine I tracked is Treck, an Atlantian vine or leguminous plant of the southern, southeastern, southwestern, and central Lontidri. He compares it to Wistaria, with blossoms pink and white instead of purple and white, a pendant cluster, and larger leaves. The same linking method continues through the other vines and shrubs. They add remnant plants, not a new flood or a new race.

Teltzie XIV. The flower trees of Atlantis

Gu-il’lo is a leguminous flower and pod-producing tree of the central, eastern, western, and northern Lontidri, except the extreme boreal part. He compares it to Ceratonia siliqua, the Carob, and especially to the Locust, and says it was larger, longer lived, and smoother of bark. Pre-historic links and ancient and modern extensions are the frame of the contents entry. I keep Guil’lo as the tree this opening actually names.

Teltzie XV. The fruit trees of Atlantis

Fruits were nearly all more oval than modern fruits, and similar in color. Orchards and gardens were planted in geometrical figures. He says geometry was used in geoponics and in architecture. The Atlantic claim is the orchard practice on the Lontidri and the later extensions. I do not invent a species roll for this teltzie.

Teltzie XVI. The nut and forest trees of Atlantis

Ex’ton is a nut-bearing genus with what he calls three principal species, and the names that follow are Bon’zel, eastern, like Juglans or the Walnut; Ex’ton and Cu-ri’ts, western, Exton like Juglans cinerea or the White Walnut, the Butternut; and Celuth, named in the next clause. Three species and four names is how the page is built. I do not drop Celuth to repair the count.

Teltzie XVII. The cereals of Atlantis

Leetres were sown in fields of various sizes by the Kelleta, the tiller. The fields were formed into geometrical figures symbolizing a life principle, as with the Heleonzos, the vegetables. E’tre is a cotyledonous gramineous plant, or Leontre, a grain, of the central, northern, and northeastern country. The chapter is that cultivation, with pre-historic links. It adds no new submergence.

Teltzie XVIII. The vegetables of Atlantis

He says the Atlantians subsisted principally upon vegetables, cereals, and fruits, and that their spiritual development was therefore more rapid and perfect. Fruit was eaten uncooked. Cereals were sometimes cooked and sometimes eaten natural. The cooked form was taken before the grain was ripe, to retain the milk, then rolled and dried. That diet is the claim I would set beside other writers’ Atlantic tables. The rest of the teltzie extends particular vegetables. I do not smooth them into a modern market list.

Teltzie XIX. The zoologic conditions of Atlantis

The frame is a zoologic cycle, pre-historic conditions, the present variety of orders, sub-orders, families, and species, and the laws that govern descent. The scan breaks the verb. The Atlantic claim is that present animal variety descends through those laws from Lontidri stocks. I do not copy an untracked species list as if I had checked every name.

Teltzie XX. The ornithologic conditions of Atlantis

Erothrodia says they had all the original birds from which ancient and modern-ancient orders have descended. Those birds still exist on the Eastern and Western Continents, though changed, and many Atlantian species never continued in the line the sentence starts. The contents page for this teltzie is 155. The claim is descent of birds, not a new map of the continent.

Teltzie XXI. Alphabet, numbers, and calendar

Zerecha Yermah opens this group. Capital letters are only larger. “T” is strongly aspirated. G and J are spelled the same. A and T are distinguished by the vowel sound. The pages print diagrams. I do not invent letterforms from the broken scan.

He notes differences among the Teltzie in the latter part of the third Efremetrum, and earlier differences on the Maretux of Atara. Letters are named with English equivalents he claims reappear in later alphabets: Ut for A, Bu for B, Du for D, Ie for E, Tu for F, Gu for G, Elt for H, Ti for I, Gu for J, Et for L, Fa for P, Let for R, Ut for T, Ud for U, Az for X, We for Y, and Sa for Z. The punctuation terms are Vrex for the period, Dox for the comma, Zan for the colon, Getz for the semicolon, Wrex for the interrogation, Dex for the exclamation, Venex for quotation, Ni’et for the apostrophe, Gwet for the parenthesis, Feze for etc., and Ax’te for the note. The illustration index puts the alphabet at 173, the punctuation marks at 175, the figures at 177, and the calendar at 181. I am naming his terms, not redrawing the signs.

Cardinal and ordinal numbers of the third Efremetrum match the six section names for 1 through 6, then continue: Et, One, Etz, First; We, Two, Wez; Set, Three, Setz; Ket, Four, Ketz; Zret, Five, Zretz; Sot, Six, Sotz; Zum, Seven, Zumz; Est, Eight, Estz; Ont, Nine, Ontz; Trum, Ten, Trumz.

The Atlantian Yelt (year) was established by civil, and not astronomical calculations.

Invariably there were 28 Yete'ze (days) in each Ashnor.

J. Ben Leslie. Submerged Atlantis Restored (1911), p. 180
J. Ben Leslie. Submerged Atlantis Restored (1911), p. 180

The twelve Ash-nor’ze are Quin, March; Din, April; Lull, May; Re-set’, June; Lute, July; Ge-ist’, August; Sin-lete’, September; Ar’but, October; Ka-mute’, November; Em-bleze’, December; Yer, January; and Alt, February. The day begins at 3 A.M. Wiljet, night, begins at 9 P.M. The year begins with Quin and closes with Alt, which he also prints Altz. Twelve months of 28 days give 336 days. The Ez-re-mance’, between Alt and Din, is 29 days for three years and 30 every fourth year, matching the extra 5 Lout’ze, hours, 48 Re-net’ze, minutes, and 46 Bel’ze, seconds.

Yermah calls the Julian calendar a re-embodied Atlantian idea. Spirit Ar-e-te-po’lus revealed the Relanse to the Egyptian A-man’ze-ras between the Third and Fourth Cataracts, near Merawi. The record reached the Alexandrian Library. Aretepolus then influenced Sosigenes and Julius Caesar. Caesar copied the record and, with Sosigenes, replaced Numa’s calendar with the Julian Year. He says the records were lost between Caesar, Caracella, and Diaclatias, his spellings, and in the pillage of the Library in 389 A.D. under Bishop Theophilus.

Teltzie XXII. The Atlantian monuments

The great Maretux stands in the Tynger of Atara. It is triangular, and the triangle symbolizes Wisdom, Love, and Truth. Galthaza’s effigy is on one side. He describes a pedestal, a column, and a cap-stone. Inscription plates are indexed from 183 to 186, and a Government Monument of Atlantis at 187. I stop at those elements. The inscription sentences run on, and I do not complete them from a broken scan.

Teltzie XXIII. Primitive temples and mummification

Primitive Mellaces Agalteze were built without hands. They are natural Heltroploxze, caves. Agalteze and Pelzoze served as repositories for So-malez Co-di’ze, mummified bodies. He describes a process for that preservation. I do not turn the process into steps beyond the fact that the bodies were prepared and deposited in those temples and caves. The contents place the teltzie at printed page 196.

Teltzie XXIV. The Atlantian air ships

Yermah gives this chapter. Hittraina, the Horse, and Telzic, the Ox, are beasts of burden, and both sexes ride. The Telta Aeta is built at Antritha and elevated by its own electric machinery. He describes a model, wings, a magnetic construction, a metal plate on the central top, and a pilot’s guidance. He says a complete circuit of the earth was made. A library burned, and the records of the craft were lost. He sets westward and eastward flight against the rotation of the earth. The contents page is 208. I do not name the pilot or the owner of the library beyond what that account itself withholds in the lines I used.

Teltzie XXV. Architects and architecture

The contents run the Atlantian, the Arabian, the Egyptian, and the Grecian architects, with pre-historic links and ancient and modern extensions, from printed page 212. A Cycle of Architects is indexed there. His method is a deferent of practitioners: an Atlantian start, then a later national school, then a modern extension. I keep that method. I do not transcribe the later national roll as a new list of Atlantis claims.

Teltzie XXVI. Columns, arches, maenhers, trilithons, alignments, dolmens, and circles

He derives megaliths from migrating remnants, and he keeps the migrations separate.

Megalithic structures in Germany, the Danish lands, and South Sweden were established by Falkaleits. Those from the Pyrenees along Spain, Portugal, Andalusia, Morocco, Algeria, and Tunis were established by migrating Chahazel Aekelley from Chahazel, now the Pyrenees, and by some Eshemeles of a subsequently submerged Eshemelus, northwest of France. Arabia and Persia received them from Sinethons of the Jordan region. He says “Jews” means a sect, and not a people, and he derives that sect from Sinethons who migrated from Tin-din’ze-on, Germany. That is his claim, printed as a derivation.

He dates the arch idea 1000 years before the Adomic period, and the columnar idea at the beginning of the Adomic period. Maenhers, trilithons, alignments, dolmens, and circles stay inside that origin story. I do not reassign them to a single Atlantic priesthood.

Teltzie XXVII. Cities, pyramids, and the Shemozan

This is the Egypt chapter a later writer will actually compare. It opens at printed page 243.

Egypt was in the golden glow of its glory and greatness, between 10,000 and 12,000 B. C.

J. Ben Leslie. Submerged Atlantis Restored (1911), p. 243
J. Ben Leslie. Submerged Atlantis Restored (1911), p. 243

He also writes a span beginning with 12,000 years B. C. and extending to 10,000 years B. C. The participle on that line is printed without the second e. I paraphrase it. The Cuzetens are the principal nation in Gasbia, or Lower Egypt, along the Nile through the Pyramidal Necropolis. The oldest and largest city is Mawilt’za, north of the now known Abu-Roash Pyramid. The principal city is Sha-mis’rex, on the western shore of the Ham’mo, or Nile, opposite Cairo. Their greatest pyramidal work, the Pyramid of Abu-Roash, was erected between 9700 and 9000 B. C., begun by the architect and ruler Ka-del’se-ec and completed by Zoon’zac.

Agatha Menkara is given a spirit message. The scan has her say that she is the daughter of Menkara, the great priest of the Nilus, who existed before the Pharaohs. I have not quoted that line because I have not had the page image under it. The illustration index places her portrait at printed page 215, a portrait of Shemoz’an at 219, and the Great Shemozan, the Sphinx, at Gizeh at 221. Those index pages sit earlier than the narrative opening at 243. I report the index as an index.

The Shemozan at Gizeh was designed and constructed by Atlantis Shemozan, the first Shacha, or ruler, and his son Atlantis Saban, the second Shacha. The book also prints Atlantis Seban. The Cuzetens named the first male offspring Atlantis. He also describes Atlantian Cemetteza, Egyptian Itmas and Itmases, an Assyrian Kisax, and a Grecian Qxunze, all indexed at printed page 227. Painters in the same stretch are dated about so many years before the Adomic period. I do not lift those bare year-counts into a chronology until each one is tied to the painter the page names. Tumuli close the contents entry for this teltzie. Their origin is part of this chapter’s claim, not a separate continent.

Teltzie XXVIII. Architectural development

The contents continue pre-historic links and ancient and modern extensions from printed page 264. The claim is development along the architect cycle already opened, not a new site for Atlantis. I do not add buildings the page does not require for that claim.

Teltzie XXIX. Authors and prose

Two periods of authors and prose, the loss and re-establishment of literature and art, and pre-historic Arabian, Egyptian, and Grecian prose, from printed page 294. A Cycle of Prose Authors is indexed at that page. Literature is lost and then started again. That loss is the fact I keep. I do not turn the later prose names into Atlantian citizens.

Teltzie XXX. Poets and poetry

Atlantian poets, then pre-historic links and ancient and modern extensions, from printed page 308, with a Cycle of Poetry Authors indexed there. The method matches the prose cycle. The Atlantian claim is that poetry on the Lontidri stands at the start of the deferent. I do not recite the later national poets as Atlantic evidence.

Teltzie XXXI. Tone poets and musicians

From printed page 327 he gives Atlantian tone poets and musicians, then notes, rests, music symbols, key names, scale signatures, clefs, and time signatures. Plates of the music representations are indexed from 331 to 337. A cycle plate is indexed at 327. The chapter says the Lontidri had a written music, with those classes of sign. I do not invent the pitch names from the diagrams.

Teltzie XXXII. Letone, Urethea, and Ethereleum

The contents spell the first instrument letone, then Urethea and Ethereleum, from printed page 338. The illustration index repeats letone at 341, Urethea at 342, and Ethereleum at 345. These are the three Atlantian instruments of this teltzie. The claim is the instrument, not a new people.

Teltzie XXXIII. The music factory

A great Atlantian music factory, then the Chamboret and the Denondric, pre-historic musical instruments of Egypt, then instruments and singers of Arabia and Greece, from printed page 347. The illustration index prints Denondrick for the Egyptian instrument at 351, Lezro for a pre-historic Grecian instrument at 354, and Celceret for another at 355. I keep Denondric in the contents and Denondrick in the index. Lezro and Celceret are pre-historic Greek in his labeling, not citizens of Atara unless a sentence on their own page says so. I did not find that sentence in the lines I used.

Teltzie XXXIV. Painters and paintings

The contents run Atlantian painters, then pre-historic painters of Arabia, Egypt in two periods, Assyria, Greece, Italy, France, and Germany, from printed page 367, with further development by ancient and modern influences. A Cycle of Painters is indexed at 367. I state the method and stop. A Renaissance or modern name in that roll is an extension on his deferent. It is not, by itself, an Atlantis claim. Where he dates an Atlantian or pre-historic painter “about so many years before the Adomic period,” the year belongs to that painter’s sentence. I do not collect the years into a table without the names.

Teltzie XXXV. Mosaic

Mosaic artists of Atlantis, and of pre-historic Egypt, Greece, and Italy, from printed page 414. The Zi’te work already named at Niolty is the Atlantic practice this chapter extends. I do not add a roll of Italian mosaicists as Atlantians.

Teltzie XXXVI. Sculptors of Atlantis, Egypt, and Assyria

Atlantian sculptors, then pre-historic Egypt in two periods, and Assyria, from printed page 434. A Cycle of Sculptors is indexed at that page. The Atlantic claim is the start of the cycle and the link into Egypt and Assyria. I keep later names inside the extension.

Teltzie XXXVII. Sculptors of Greece and later countries

Pre-historic sculptors of Greece in two periods, then Asia Minor, Italy, Germany, France, and Spain, from printed page 451. A bronze Poseidon appears here as a subject of later sculpture, and a work of Athene with Poseidon is credited to a non-historic sculptor. Poseidon is not an Atlantian god in this book. The divine name he uses for the creative force is Gala. I do not file the statue as an Atlantic cult.

Teltzie XXXVIII. Sculpture of the Middle Ages and modern times

The contents title covers the Middle Ages and modern times, from printed page 480. These names are modern extensions of the sculptor cycle. They add no Atlantis, Mu, Lemuria, flood, or Antediluvian claim of their own.

Teltzie XXXIX. Terra cotta

The contents print Terra Gotta, of Atlantis and then of pre-historic Egypt, Arabia, Assyria, Greece, and Italy, from printed page 505. The art is terra cotta under that spelling. The claim is the same cycle. I do not convert the later artists into a second Atlantis.

Teltzie XL. The government and the flags

The government chapter begins at printed page 519. The state is a republic, a Stel’za. The Efremetrum is the Supreme Teacher or President at Atara, and he compares the office to Washington. Sub-Efremetruzem are the governors. There are no Congressmen and no Senators. Advisers are chosen for semi-annual assemblies. The Supreme Efremetrum decides when the Sub-Efremetruzem fail to agree unanimously. The people choose the officer for moral and educational standing.

The term of office was one hundred years, or during their natural life if less than that; providing they maintained justice and honor in all their rulings and acts in life, and were not physically rendered incapable of filling the office.

J. Ben Leslie. Submerged Atlantis Restored (1911), p. 520
J. Ben Leslie. Submerged Atlantis Restored (1911), p. 520

He dates the choice of Galthaza as supreme Deltsanz, or Efremetrum, who established the Delzemaric and presided about one hundred years. I do not quote that clause. It sits inside a longer sentence on the imaged page.

Three Efremetrumze, the dynasties, cover about three hundred years. Before them the people were more or less uncivilized, democratic and self-governing. The first dynasty is Galthaza, about one hundred years. The second is Goetlez, one hundred years, then retirement as too aged. The third is Alem Prolex, nearly one hundred years, cut short by the submergence.

The accent rule is part of the claim. Efremetrum with the accent on the first syllable means the Supreme Teacher. The accent on the third syllable means the dynasty. Efremetrumze, plural of the dynasty, takes the accent on the fourth syllable. Efremetruzem, plural of the office, takes the accent on the third.

At the submergence he still names a capital and a governor for each section. The page before the imaged one names Teltzie Et, A’ta-ra, with A’lem Prolex as Efremetrum; Teltzie We, Neitz, with Yer’mah; and Teltzie Set, Hu’litz, with Fort’ze. The imaged page names the last three: Teltzie Ket, Hadrey, Utz’ly-er; Teltzie Zret, Wex’tra, O-ron’do; Teltzie Sot, Ge’trex, Sa’gots.

In the first fifty years of the third dynasty they erected the De-ake’al, or Del-ze-mar’ic, building, the Agalte Si Neceletus Mel’ze Co-di’ze, and the Trune Agalte Si Quesa. Electricity was developed over the next fifty years. He compares that pace to the last fifty years of modern civilization, and to change across three hundred years.

Cloth belongs in this chapter. In the first dynasty it was hand-woven from the fibrous part of a tree called Ye’tra. Near the close of that dynasty they used O’-eze, a grass with silk-fine fibers, which he compares to the Bromelia called pita, or Caraguata. The second dynasty colored Oeze textures. In the third, weaving was a fine art. A history compilement was begun late in the third dynasty and destroyed in the cataclysm.

Alem Prolex further informs us, that they had found data of more than 1000 years preceding the period of the beginning of the first Efremetrum, upon some ancient mounds and in caves.

J. Ben Leslie. Submerged Atlantis Restored (1911), p. 523
J. Ben Leslie. Submerged Atlantis Restored (1911), p. 523

After death, he says, Alem Prolex and others learned facts the last age never discovered. The money is on the facing pages.

They did not strike money in U’zie, gold, or Cle’tie, silver. Getrex comes from Zin’de-lete, a black and white crystallized substance. There are five cylindrical denominations, the diameter equal to the length: one quarter inch, one half inch, three quarters of an inch, one and one quarter inches, and one and one half inches. The table prints San-lip’ at 25 cents, San-mit’ at 50 cents, San-sit’ at 1 dollar, San-lit’ at 1 dollar and 25 cents, and San-dit’ at 2 dollars. There is no piece under twenty-five cents. A smaller purchase is made by combining amounts up to a Sanlip. His example is twelve and one-half cents. Land and home are taxed for the Sil-da-zic’ Si Ush Del-ze-mar’ic, the Schools of the Government, and for Pel-ze-co’ze and A-gal-teze, the temples. The dollar values do not rise in step with the diameters. I report the table as printed.

The flags are six Delzemaric Ge-el’ze. The illustration index puts them at printed page 524. The Geel of the Lontidri and of Teltzie Et has six right-oblique stripes. The first, at the upper left, is deep purple. Then bright violet, medium pink, azure or sky blue, a very bright orange, and pure white as the body that separates the colored stripes. Page 523 breaks in the middle of “a very bright,” and the next page continues with the orange and the white.

He says the upper color is the ensign, and that the number of colors on the national geel represents the number of Teltzie. The section flags, as printed, do not keep a tidy “one less” step. We has five: violet, pink, azure, orange, and white. Set has four: pink, azure, orange, and white. Ket has two: azure and orange on the upper half and the center, with the lower portion white. Zret has the orange through the center, with the upper and lower portions white. Sot is plain white. The sentence that lists those colors is set with long dashes, so I do not quote it.

The Re-it-er’ze, the standards, are a second system. On the national standard the portion above the geel is solid uzie, gold, then purple, pink, and azure in correspondence, and the lower portion is cletie, silver. The same page also prints celite. Bands are separated by uzie. The rest of the reiterze is celite, or painted that color. We has three bands, violet, pink, and azure. Set has pink and azure. Ket has azure and orange. Zret has orange. Sot is entirely silver. Narrow silver bands, or unpainted uzie, separate them. Wooden standards are painted silver. Metal is for official, Kistrez, and Delzemaric affairs. Wood is for private decoration. We’s flag had five colors and We’s standard has three bands. I leave that difference.

Teltzie XLI. The religion of Atlantis

The religion chapter begins at printed page 526. Sects vary in the first dynasties. I keep them by section, in the order he gives.

In the northeast of Teltzie Sot the people are idolaters. Ren-hen-el’gy are human-form images, for peace and pleasure. Ex-an’dra is an image of the E-zo’ta, a ferocious animal he compares to the orang-outang, for war and contention. Gatherings fall at the new moon, two days and one night, without sleep, with dances, palms together. He derives later Totemism from this practice.

In the northeast of Teltzie We the moon is E-u’tie, provident. The waning moon is addressed as O’ner. Adorations run from the new moon until the full, and then the people disperse.

In the northwest of Teltzie Set the moving waters are Hel-ter-man’ze, later Ze-ret’. Worship is silent meditation at the shore, and later in Agalteze. The Maretux has a square base, an octagonal shaft, spiral leaf wreaths, animals below, birds above, and a large bird on the apex. The main temple is at Enididstro, about one hundred coitex high. Twice a year, at the beginning of summer and of winter, the observance lasts two days and nights. There are kneeling responses, sprinkling, children dipped, feet washed, and hands dipped before the clasp of brotherhood.

Sun sects were originally Den-ze-men’ze, later Tel-tie. A sun image stands on buildings. He gives an English sense of the morning prayer as a bow to the great light that God has given, and of the evening prayer as a request that the departing light enlighten others so that they may know more of God. I do not quote those translations. The scan of the prayer lines is broken, and I have not imaged them. A revolving circle stands for the Cycles of Creation.

Planets and stars are the Yan-ter-man’ze. Generally, in the third Efremetrum, the Sun is Ka’la, Ga-ha’la, or Gala, the Universal Creative Force.

In the northwest of Teltzie Ket the personal god is an anthropomorphic Gahala, originally Graf’the-am, later Kitranda. The temple Ex-a-len’tre at Hadrey is a circular building, a colosseum of golden-tinted stone, with four sun discs facing the cardinal points. The ritual uses extensions of the arms, turns, kneeling, and three circuits. It was abandoned when the nation grew enlightened. Gala then stands as Universal Law, the Supreme Spirit in Nature.

A plurality sect names Kiantha, the father, the sun; Men’scot, the mother, the moon; Que-zie-en’zie, the morning star, for education, science, and material birth; and Que’zie, the evening star, for knowledge, wisdom, and material disembodiment. The planets are the children.

There is no Biblical Sunday. There is a national day. Goetlez, when he became Efremetrum of the second dynasty, instituted the Dal-zo’ta Yete, then termed Sel’de-ren, “day of pleasure,” once a month at the return of the new moon. Cities held public gatherings for pleasure, amusement, and feasting. Country people gathered for the same purpose, and some who lived near towns came in. At the start of the third dynasty Alem Prolex and his Efremetruzem changed the time and the exercises. Feasting and general pleasure gave way to fasting and to ethical teaching of a more profound sort than governmental enforcement had required. He established an In-tha-o’za Yete termed Men-ze-ra’iis, “day of education,” moved it from the new moon to the first day of the Ashnor, and proclaimed it as an Inthaoza edict.

The teaching line he wants retained is that Nature is God, and God is Nature. The teachings are named Gala, Delzota nud In-dro-san’tra, which he glosses God, Nature, and Creation, and Nencie, Lemaz nud Wotz, time, space, and life. In Teltzie Set the Jassanna monuments have a feast and a prayer whose English sense is a request that God give greater light and more knowledge. They were remodelled about twenty-five years before the submergence of that portion. Among the Mutizes of Zret the creator is Ke’dish. The statue is about ten feet high. The annual assembly is at the winter solstice, at the Hulezon, the shrine in the Zelondeus. Those Mutize sentences sit in the ethnologic pages, under the body heading of Teltzie Zret, not as an extra numbered teltzie. I report them with the religion because the god-name is the point, and again with the Zret people because the body prints them there.

The ethnology begins at printed page 541. The six sections are separate peoples. I do not collapse them into one Atlantian type.

Teltzie Et had but one race, the Atlantians proper, except east of Atara, where the people are the Kin’ti-lu-ci-ans. Height is six to eight feet. They are well proportioned, muscular, heavy built, and strong. Skins are white and brunette. Hair is blond, black, brown, and in some cases red, some straight and some curly. Beards are generally full. Eyes are gray, blue, brown, and black. He says they were like the Anglo Saxon except taller. The Kintilucians are the same physically except in complexion: hair pure white, eyes pink, complexion a clear pinkish white. A later Europe chapter will send this people toward the Caucasus and will describe them again. I keep this complexion here.

Teltzie We has four divisions. The Cel-ex-den’trys are northern and northeastern. Earlier, that northeastern portion was divided into three uncivilized tribes, the Yosan’zes, the Hu-ber-aus’tens, and the Flu-zan’zes, hostile in the way he compares to Indian tribes. The Cel-tre-zo’nas are eastern. The Nin-ka’zits are southern. The Lel-ta’zats are southeastern. Ninkazits and Leltazats wore clothing of hair, fibers, and soft barks: fibers and bark for the warp, hair for the woof, in black, brown, gray, and white. Celexdentrys of the north and northwest, and Celtrezonas of the east, used the same worship terms and the same Yeeltum as the Ninkazits and Leltazats, and added a triangle at the apex with the sun and its rays, for the Beneficent Principle of Light. A prayer line on these pages uses Kelta as the exclamation at first sight of the Yeeltum, and Guilda in the sense he compares to Amen.

Teltzie Set has, in the extreme north, the Be-ten’u-zens, ignorant and uncultivated, living on fish and animal flesh, clothed in skins and furs, and in physique much like the people he calls Kamchatkan. He then says there were four general divisions. The readable names are the Lex-te-lon’zas, in the southwestern third; the Cle-tre-zon’zes, in the southeast; and the San-nan’zes, in the northwest. The scan of that sentence is broken, so I do not supply a fourth name. The Lextelonzas migrated from Teltzie Et, or Atara, and parties from them, joined by others from Et, established the Celtrezonas and the Sannanzes. In stature, color of skin, hair, and eyes, and in general manners, he calls them almost a facsimile of the Atarians, the differences being those of climate, locality, and livelihood. The Betenuzens remain the separate northern tribe.

Teltzie Ket has only two divisions proper. The No-tho’sis, southern, originally migrated from Teltzie Et or Atara. The Kas-man’ce-es, northern, are a mixed race of Nothosis from southeastern Ket, Sannanzes from northwestern Set, and Celexdentrys of northern We. Southeastern Nothosis mingled with Lextelonzas of southwestern Set. Nothosis proper have the same stature as the people of Atara. The southeastern portion is swarthy or light brown, like the people he compares to modern Italians. Kasmancees have the same stature but are more slender, with darker longer hair, larger and deeper-set eyes, and more protruding foreheads. He describes a blend of dark Nothosis, black Celexdentrys, and white Sannanzes into dark, medium, and light, and he compares that blend to the mixing of Anglo-Saxon and African races in North America. I record the comparison as his. The eastern side of the Miezietory was more cultured and more architectural. The western side subsisted on fruits and he calls it naturally indolent. People near the northern Reeta were miners, not considered educated, and commercial in minerals only.

Teltzie Zret has three divisions. The Mu’ti-zes are northern and northeastern. The Gu-ren’zes are southern. The Mel’tre-zens are southeastern. The northeastern people were cultured in fine mechanics more than in books. Mutizes have the same stature as Atarians because they migrated from Teltzie Et, and they took up Atarian dress after they regained civilization. Their god principle is Ke’dish, as the religion pages have it.

Teltzie Sot has a hostile tribe, the Drez-a-lan’cosh-ans, on the Ga-sib’bee Aelkedze, with remnants on Guadeloupe in the Leeward group of the Caribee Islands. He says four general divisions: the Schi’rants, northern; the Mel-len-thes, northwestern; and the Scha-nan’da-rits and the Ka-cedricks, southwestern. The sentence that sorts the last pair is broken in the scan. I keep the four names and do not invent a cleaner assignment, and I do not lock a height I have not confirmed on the page. Schirants of Sot, mixed with Atlantians, are later called ancestors of Bushmen. That derivation belongs to the Africa chapter. I only mark it here so the Sot names stay available.

Teltzie XLIII. Geographic, geologic, ethnographic, and ethnologic extensions

Printed page 557 opens a bridge chapter. It carries the section peoples toward the border lands that the later teltzies will rename. The method is remnant, migration, new section name, new people name, then a historic family. I do not treat this chapter as a second ethnology. The named extensions start with Africa.

Teltzie XLIV. Africa

Africa begins at printed page 559. Pre-historic names come in his order.

Sfury is the first, given by the Horziethas, the last tribe of the southern branch of the two nations of the Gasbian migration, at Conzandeza, which he identifies with Abyssinia and Nubia. Kanan’zie is the second, given by the Kadioes after their leader, the main tribe of the northern branch, at Kadio, Algeria and Tunis, the term meaning cold. In-thl-cle’ony is the third, given by the Jeretheans who survived the submergence of southwestern Co’jel, now the Mediterranean, and were left on the northern coast of Algeria and Tunis, then known as Kinmanzes, in the section Kinmanzes.

About 7000 years before the Adomic period, a colony of Horziethas migrated east from Conzandeza into the now submerged district of the Red Sea, termed Sancut, and called themselves Wezinthes. Later a colony beyond the Atlas Mountains, termed Kadio, called themselves Kadioes. A colony of Algerian Kadioes went to the southwestern half of the Mediterranean, termed Cojel after the pre-historic Cojel of their Keselza ancestors in Morocco, and called themselves Jeretheans.

Further names in the same run, which I keep in his sequence and do not repair where the scan joins a word, are the Geliot river; Kalluthea at the First Cataract and the Kalluthians; a mix with Kasamanzes, then Cuzetenne or Cuzetens, the river still the Geliot; Afeto and the Afectoes; Devornan near Brazzeville and the Kasheans; Abrances near Iramba Kone, on the north line of British Central Africa, and the Krabascans; the Sackilum hamlet and the Adalmettes; Goleth island and the Shantros, with Fulas and Gitewabas near Antongodrahoja.

Schirants of Teltzie Sot mixed with Atlantians become ancestors of the Bushmen. The scan of that sentence reads Bushamen. A low tribe remains in the northeast of Sot. Horziethas through the region he calls the Soudan are ancestors of the Hottentots, especially the pure Namaqua and Oerlaama. Mild traits come from Atarians, and indolence from Schirants. Schanandarits of Sot, by way of Kintilucians whom he also calls Caucasians, and Cuzetens whom he calls Egyptians, are claimed as ancestors of thirty-eight tribes of the “Western Group” of South African Negroes. He also names U-re-an’lens as ancestors of the Kaffres. Two great periodical convulsions are in the contents entry. I keep them as the frame of this chapter and do not invent their years beyond the 7000 years before the Adomic period already tied to the Horzietha colony.

Teltzie XLV. Egypt

Egypt’s name chapter begins at printed page 581. The pyramid and Shemozan claims are earlier, in Teltzie XXVII. Here the subject is names and migrants.

Gasbia is the first pre-historic name of Lower Egypt, given by the Kasamanzese. Kalluthea is the first name of Upper Egypt, given by the Kallutheans. Gustz is the first name of Middle Egypt, given by the Quzetas. Siloton is the first name of the entire country of Egypt. He places its establishment about 1000 years before the Adomic period. The scan of that number is dirty in the extract, so I give the figure as the same “1000 years” his imaged pages print elsewhere, and I do not quote the Siloton sentence. The contents also promise five nations, geographic and geologic conditions, and migrating peoples from Teltzie Sot, Atarians from Et, and people from Teltzie Set by way of Sfury. Those three sources are the migration claim of this teltzie.

Teltzie XLVI. Arabia and Persia

The chapter begins at printed page 588. Tirg’ney is the first sectional name of Arabia, given by the Wezinthese before the Red Sea existed, and it includes the Red Sea area and the country east to the present eastern shore. Qureston is the second name, given by the Rezendeths, a remnant of the Wezinthese, after the sea was established. He counts two convulsions.

Persia continues in the same teltzie. One migration I tracked takes the Ioxens to the Pushtikoh range, termed Alenco, a long low range, in the section Siaza, Luristan, where they called themselves Cilzys. I do not extend the Persian roll past that naming. The contents promise pre-historic names, ethnology, and migrations, and this is the pair the opening actually gives.

Teltzie XLVII. Turkey, Gontheole, and the flood idea

The Turkey chapter begins at printed page 605. The contents spell the leader Gon-threole. The body uses Gontheole and Gon’the-ole. I follow the body.

Gu’lem is the first pre-historic name of the section east and southeast of the Taurus, known as Turkey in Asia, given by mixed Cilzys and Esgenens, and kept until the beginning of what he calls modern ancient time. The Esgenens belong to Esgenenex, south of the Taurus, near the place the scan reads as Pood.

Gontheole is a descendant and a leader who fled alone, east to the Euphrates and southeast to the junction with the Tigris, into the valley Ce-li’te, beautiful valley. Leslie says this is the Eden of the Biblical narrator. Gontheole took that name, meaning the lone man. The Biblical narrator used him as Adam, with Eve, in the Garden of Eden. Leslie says he was a real person and that parts of the narration were myth.

At 100 he met remnant Ackredeths and Rezendeths of central Siaza, in Persia, in the section Zev-er-en’des where Yezd is. He married the Ackredeth woman Cly-e’the, returned to Celite, and they dwelt nearly 600 years. He survived her about 200 years and died at 900.

Five children are named. Ka-non’zi-a is the person glossed Cain. Dl-zon’zu, also Dizonzu and Dionzu, is glossed Able, not Abel. Zih’i-sese is glossed Seth. The daughters are Ze-a-lin’tha and Ql-i-en’za, the youngest. There is no murder. Gontheole sent the two sons to possess land. Kanonzia’s valley is No’de-gent, lone land, which the Biblical writer changed to Nod. He places it about 45 degrees of longitude east of Greenwich and about 36.5 degrees north, in the western foothills. The son then went farther northwest, to Ma-mo’pa. He married Re-ez’deth, of the Re-zen’deths, near Damavend, at a halt called Si-am’ning. The children are The-re’zy, glossed Enoch; a daughter He-o-di-a, the second child; and Al’te-zone, the second son.

Therezy’s valley is Es-ge-nen’ex, west of Mount Ararat, which he termed Hin’kel-ty, in memory of the ancestral Esgenenex. The wife is Ka-she’la. The son is Mar-re’za. Marreza’s son is Ge-lin’get, the person the Biblical narrative represents as Noah. The genealogy is then stated again: Marreza and the wife Mel-etish also have a son Gelinget. I keep both statements. I do not collapse them into one birth.

Dizonzu settled the Mun-zo’muns below the confluence of the Euphrates and the Tigris, a name Leslie extends toward the Mussulmans. He was a shepherd. The wife is E-lith’e-us of Cen-re’sha, Fars, a descendant of the Ackredeths. The children are Ze-ri’the, the first, a daughter; Ge-ron’zo, a son; Me-het’ley, a daughter; and Zu’rum, a son. Wars produce a decree to kill infant males. The infant Nl-u’tis, son of Zerithe, is hidden and later chosen leader. Leslie says the Biblical writer used this for Moses. The migration goes west across the Euphrates to about 40 degrees east and 35 degrees north in Syria, then to the Anti-Lebanon, Jebel Esh Sharki, Jebel Libnan and Lebanon, the Sea of Galilee, the Jordan, and the Ford of Abarah near Beisan, into the Ghor. The valley is Al-le-bar’din, the Land of Promise. They called themselves Shan-deoes, later known as the Israelites.

Gelinget’s valley is O-ka-len’tus, southeast of Ararat. The wife is Zo-ril’i-thy.

The flood is placed while these families occupied Nodegent, Munzomuns, Esgenenex, Jentiusen, where Marreza is, northwest of Hinkelty, and Okalentus. A rain from the Caucasus, between the Caspian and the Black Seas, ran south through Turkey, Persia, and Syria, and especially through Palestine, for about sixty days and nights, some twenty days longer than the Biblical narrator allows. People and animals went up the mountains with the cattle. He calls the Ark a myth. When the waters receded, soil had buried the valley homes. I do not quote these sentences. The scan of the Turkey narrative is dirty, and I have not imaged the pages. The dove and the close of the sixty days sit in that same account. The claim I keep is the length of the rain, the mountain refuge, and the rejection of the Ark.

The same teltzie continues into Afghanistan and Baluchistan, with the pre-historic Lazerends, Kentersends, and Timmenons, their migrations, and the geographic conditions. Those three are the named peoples of that close. I do not invent further tribes for the range.

Teltzie XLVIII. Hindustan and India

The chapter begins at printed page 624. Timmenons, or their descendants the Haezels, migrated to northwestern Hindustan, named the country Swanso, and called themselves Swansoans. A colony split into Hin’diis and In’dra, each name taken from the leader of a faction. Hindus led his faction from Swanso. The contents also name the Delka Sadels. The scan of that contents word is broken at the capital, so I keep Delka Sadels as the intended name and do not rebuild it. The deserts, their origin and their establishment as deserts, are the geographic close of this teltzie. The Atlantic claim is the descent from the Timmenons, not a new sunken land in India.

Teltzie XLIX. Azan, Gelvthric, and Farther India

The chapter begins at printed page 645. Azan is the pre-historic name of a great Tishhan, a Hintox term for a valley, running north and south between the western coast of British India and the eastern coast of the Laccadive and Maldive Islands, so termed by the Guevels. The southern portion lies between the Segristic and Desancto ranges. The northern portion lies between the Desancto and the range the sentence continues into. Gelvthric is the second great valley. Farther India belongs to the Fesents, their migrations, and their descendants. I keep those three place-names and the Guevels. I do not fill the unfinished range name from a neighboring book.

Teltzie L. Europe

The body opens at printed page 660, under Ge-lin’sic, or Europe. The contents page-figure for this teltzie is dirty. The footer before the heading is 659.

Ge-lin’sic is the first pre-historic name of Europe, given by the Sin’e-thons of Tin-din’ze-on, Germany. At first it embraced only that immediate portion. It continued until the peoples of the eastern half of Europe adopted it. E-tre-the’on is the second pre-historic name, changed by common consent of the peoples of the western portion, about the beginning of the Adomic period, and kept until Roman and Grecian fame, when a shorter term was wanted.

The contents count seven great periodical convulsions of northwest Europe, a triple migration of the Zrineths, an eastern migration of the Kintilucians, a migration of the Sederones, and the great migration of the Jeretheans out of Cojel, the Mediterranean area before its submergence.

The Kintilucian migration is the one I would set beside his earlier description of white hair and pink eyes. Remnants were left on Madeira and the Canary Islands. Before the submergence that formed the coast of Spain and the straits, high lands connected those islands with Spain. The people passed into Spain to be exclusively to themselves. In Atlantis they were known for remaining secluded, from an extreme sensitiveness he attributes to their being highly magnetic or electric. He says no nation preserved the Atlantian type so purely as the Kintilucians, whose descendants became the pre-historic ancestors of the Caucasians of the Caucasus: the same color of skin, hair, and eyes, a twitching or jerking of the eyes, and activity of body. That Caucasian coloring and the pink-eyed coloring in the Et chapter are both his. I do not choose one.

The greater portion migrated from Spain to France. A remnant stayed in Spain. The original colony then went from France to Germany. The remnant in France mingled with mixed Sederones and Cinetoiens, from Cinetoia in the Genoa region, who had already mixed, and established the Fal’ka-leits, ancestors of the French people proper. From Germany the original colony circled east and then south to the Caucasus and Russia. The remnant in Germany mingled with Sinethons and established the ancestors of the German people proper. A pure stock of Ganhelemans who did not mix became ancestors of the German Jews, whose further migrations established those of Poland. A descended tribe of mixed Ganhelemans and Kintilucians from Tindinzeon migrated to England, mingled with Zrineths, and established Anglo-Saxon ancestors. Anglo-Saxons again mixed with Zrineth descendants in Scotland, Ireland, and Wales, establishing ancestors of the Celts, then the Scotch, the Erse, later the Irish, and the Cymry or Welsh.

After Tindinzeon they circled through southern Poland, northeast of Galicia and the Carpathians, northeast of Moldavia, to Kherson near the Black Sea and the town of Odessa, remained several generations, then went northeast beyond the Sea of Azof or Azov into Cis-Caucasus, north of the Caucasian mountains. They settled permanently, termed the section Kintilucia, and retained the tribe name. Kintilucia in the Atlantian language meant white, so named from complexion and hair and from snow on the peaks in summer and on the country in winter.

Before that settlement, a small crude tribe lived on the western slopes of the Ural mountains, with no section name, no tribe name, and no knowledge of origin. After several generations they migrated along the eastern side of the Ural river to about forty-nine degrees north, north of the Caspian, and were re-established. The Kintilucians called them the Sen’dix, the term meaning from the snow land. He describes the Sendix as about five feet, a little stooping, the bodies shaped more like the Orang-Outang, heavily clad with hair, the hands and feet more human, the heads flattish on the sides, the skulls projected in the back and drooped. That is his printed description. I do not extend it.

About five hundred years prior to the submergence, a convulsion took place in two sections between Iceland and Spitzbergen. The range Shi-al’tic runs in a circular way northeast from Iceland to the Jan Mayens Islands. Iceland is a remnant.

Spain is the section Sederone, and the people are the Sederones. A colony southeast to Jaen retained the names. Sederones are a mixture of Kintilucians and Keselzas. On the Balearics, Kintilucians from eastern Spain occupied western and central Ivica and Majorca. Mixed Sederones and Cinetoiens occupied a submerged pre-historical island, Celindeso. After the convulsion the central remnant, now the Balearic Islands, was termed the section Selleoose. They called themselves Intilextoese, and were partly mixed with Jeretheans from the great valley of Koressa.

Teltzie LI. Greece and Asia Minor

Greece begins at printed page 696. Zan-zu-re’ta, in the form the opening uses, is the first pre-historic name of all Greece, given by the Cedreons of Leonse’dric or Hellas and by the Cerethans of Jeseethan or Morea. He treats those two as practically one government, and the name honors their Ketredad, or ruler, Zanzureta. Helock is the second name, changed by the same peoples in honor of Helock. The sentence that identifies Helock’s parent continues past the line I closed. I do not finish the parentage. Icthieons are the third people named for Greece.

Asia Minor follows in the same teltzie. The pre-historic peoples he names there are the Dencies and the Socotrums, with their descended peoples. The claim is those names and the migrations. I do not add a Greek king-list.

Teltzie LII. China and Siberia

The chapter begins at printed page 709. Swa-disckan, the promised land, is the first prehistoric name of China, given by the Kentersends of Zancustezum. Leaders had promised a final home in the region of the rising sun. When they reached the Pacific and could go no farther, they abandoned the idea, settled, and termed the entire country Swadisckan. The contents also name the Shalemanzes. Kentersends and Shalemanzes, their migrations, and their descended peoples are the China and Siberia claim. I do not import a Pacific continent to explain the rising sun. The phrase in this chapter is a direction of migration.

Teltzie LIII. The East Indian archipelago

The chapter begins at printed page 724. Gan-de-cu’lo, waters coming from below, is the first pre-historic name, termed by Gistraz tribes of Agonthrus, Australia, about the beginning of the Adomic period. He calls the region the greatest Gindlitehishan, a Gistrad term for an archipelago, meaning many islands, and he has it embrace Polynesia, Australasia, and Malaysia. The contents count five great periodical convulsions and thirteen pre-historic peoples who inhabited the region before the submergence. I have the opening names and the counts. I do not invent the thirteen. The method remains remnant, new name, historic descendant. Agonthrus returns in the stigmatization chapter as southeastern Australia.

Teltzie LIV. Gontaculo, the Celebes Sea, Frontlegi, and the Java Sea

The chapter begins at printed page 740. Gontaculo is the pre-historic name of a large Keltezec northeast of Borneo and north of the Celebes. After the submergence the water was, pre-historically, the Selasac Sezie, until just about the beginning of Modern Ancient time, and then the Celebes Sea. The contents count seven pre-historic peoples for that region. Frontlegi and the Caniences, or Java Sea, follow, with two pre-historic peoples. I keep the place-names and the two counts. I do not fill unnamed tribes.

Teltzie LV. Jellatse, the China Sea, and the Yellow Sea

The contents close this entry at printed page 748. Jellatse is the pre-historic name of the great Keltezec running southwest and northeast between Borneo and the Philippines on the east, and Malay and Anam or Cochin China on the west, northeast from Malay and Borneo to the latitude of Hong Kong. The contents count eight pre-historic peoples for Jellatse and for the Taenia, or China Sea. Tellecatoo and Yulyotem, the Yellow Sea, follow, with five peoples. The claim is that pair of drowned valleys and those counts. I do not supply the personal names the contents promise and the lines I used do not list.

Teltzie LVI. Nantsrushan and the Japan Sea

The contents place this teltzie at printed page 756. Nan-tsru’shan is the pre-historic name of the great Keltezec running southwest and northeast between the Japanese islands and Corea and Mantchooria, his spellings. About the time of the first periodical convulsion that established southeastern Polynesia, two principal convulsions and several smaller ones occurred within two years. The contents pair Nantsrushan and Kanhanze, the Japan Sea, with two peoples, and Jeldeco and the Okhotsk Sea with three convulsions and four peoples. Stigmatization, tattooing, face-painting, and feather-wearing are listed at the end of this contents entry. The body gives them their own heading and numbers that heading LVII. I follow the body for the next section and keep the contents assignment in view.

Stigmatization, tattooing, face-painting, and feather-wearing

The body heading is Ouil-se’ra, Mer’sur, Mic-nu’lu, Kish re-cod’ny, or stigmatization, tattooing, face-painting, and feather-wearing. It prints TELTZIE LVII. The page is 762. North America, later, also prints TELTZIE LVII. I do not renumber either one.

Stigmatization, as practised in Australia in the place of tattooing, dates to the time the Gistraz tribe settled in Agonthrus, now the southeastern portion of Australia, and he says it is more remote, pre-historically, than plain tattooing. On a certain occasion, as the evening star and the full moon rose, Kal-sad’e-iis, the leader, reclined on the side of a mountain until the stars of the whole sky were visible. He conceived the Sun as the father planet, the Moon as the mother, and the stars as their children. He raised cicatrices on his face: circles for the sun, semi-circles for the moon’s phases, dots for the stars, and lines separating the designs, all symbolic of a power of principle greater than himself or his people. The tribe and their descendants adopted the practice for the same purpose, and later generations also used the same forms as tribal badges. The custom passed to the Modern Ancient aboriginal peoples of Australia, with their reverence for the planets and the stars. From the number of stars on a clear night they conceived that people on the earth plane should be numerous, and that idea led them to seek a greater increase of children.

Tattooing on the Eastern Continent and the Great Archipelago dates to before the convulsion that established northwestern Polynesia, among the O-no-a-toas, who inhabited the islands of O-no-a-toa in the Gilbert group. He says the island name was never changed. They were a tribe of Igentoses who had wandered southeast from Kalveno to the region of the Onoatoa group, south of the Gilberts. A remnant left on the islands at the convulsion termed them Onoatoa and called themselves the Onoatoas.

A member of the tribe got a portion of the purple juice of a plant then known as the Qu’duke, now extinct, on his forearm, apparently in the image of a snake. The stain was indelible. The people feared it as an evil omen. To see the effect on another person they scratched diagonal lines across an arm with a sharp instrument and applied the juice along the scratches. When the wounds healed, the mark held, and breaking the skin made it more indelible. They then made images of trees and animals by the same means. Before the Gilbert, Marshall, and Onoatoa islands were established, some of the Igentoses, or ultimate Onoatoas, had already begun the practice. Face-painting and feather-wearing belong to this same contents subject. The sentences I followed are the cicatrice story and the Quduke story. I do not add a third origin.

Teltzie LVII. North America

The contents, and the second body heading numbered LVII, put North America at printed page 770. The continent of North America as a whole was not named until about the beginning of the Christian Era, when it was divided into Southern and Northern. Guioita, sun land, is the first pre-historic name of the southern division, given by the Linzoes. Senlins, little warmth, is the first pre-historic name of the northern division.

The contents count three Atlantian tribes into the Western Continent, three descended nations into the West Indies and the Caribbean before the submergence, and six descended nations through North America and Alaska whose descendants became ancestors of the North American and Alaskan Indians. The body does not keep those counts as clean boxes. I follow the migrations in the order the later pages actually give them.

A tribe of Kintilucians migrated from eastern Teltzie Et to southern Teltzie Zret and partly mixed with Gurenzes. At the convulsion that formed the Bermudas, remnants of Kintilucians, Gurenzes, and the mixed race were left, degenerated into wild tribes, and became extinct from want and disease. Meltrezens were left in the Bahamas. Gurenzes were left in northern Hayti. Mixed Gurenzes and Kintilucians migrated to Hayti, to the section Guselsic given by the Gurenzes, and called themselves Y-nan’does or Yunandoes, then blended and retained the name Gurenzes. A chain of remnant islands from Bermuda to Hayti later went down, cutting off a considerable part of northeast Hayti and of Cuba. Open water between Cuba and Florida was not fully established until about between six and eight thousand years B. C. The printed line uses “between six, to eight thousand.” I paraphrase it.

Meltrezens of Cuba, principally of San Juan, termed the country Tu-yan-ang’, the unknown country, and that name became the name of all Cuba. A large colony from western Tuyanang migrated southwest into Yucatan and the surrounding country and became Congoes in Shaltecongo. Mixed Gurenzes and Kintilucians, or Ynandoes, amalgamated into Gurenzes, spread into Nicaragua and the Peninsula of Panama, and became ancestors of the classified Central American races. Another tribe of Congoes from Shaltecongo, Yucatan, established themselves at Vera Cruz as Linzoes in Quintelinzo, ancestors of the Mexican Race of the Modern Ancient period.

Descendants of the Shazas, the Kinchocs, and the Succileons mingle into tribes of the Great Lakes and become ancestors of the Western Branch of the Algonquin Family. Succileons from Succileon, in the Boston vicinity, become Owascheetoes in the land now the Gulf of St. Lawrence, ancestors of the Northern Branch of the Algonquin. With the U-o’mings, remnant Kasmancees from Teltzie Ket, of the section U-o’ming in eastern Labrador, in the land now Hudson Bay, they amalgamated as Sha-ha-iens of Cu-co’km, ancestors of the Athabascan or Tinney family. He places that family in Alaska and Canada from the Eskimo domain to the Churchill, and from the Rockies to Hudson Bay, with enclaves in Oregon, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and North Mexico. Non-mingled Uomings become Hyc’te-sez of Sul’-le-trame, about 70 degrees north and 108 degrees west from Greenwich, between Wollaston Land and Victoria Land, ancestors of the Eskimo or Innuits of Labrador and of British America southwest of Greenland. Further Shahaiens mix with Gangomingoes into Eltishazas and into the Eskimo of northeast Alaska and on into Siberia. The pages use both Eskimo and Esquimaux.

Pure Congoes from Shaltecongo, the land now the central and southern Gulf of Mexico, migrate along the Gen-ze-rest mountains to southern Louisiana west of the Mississippi as Shazas of Anteshaza, ancestors of the Dakota or Sioux, of the prairies between the Mississippi and the Rockies, from the Saskatchewan to the Red River of Texas. Gurenzes and Meltrezens from southern Teltzie Zret go to Great Bahama, keeping the Meltrezen language with a Gurenzes dialect. Forced by Engrenemens from Brunswick, Georgia, and then by Shazas, they settle on the Brazos in the Washington district, in the section El-gre-na’da, as O-ja’zenes, ancestors of the Pawnee. He says the Pawnee are classified with the Shoshones ethnically and differ linguistically because they kept Meltrezen, while the Shintolons kept the ethnical type of the Shoshones. They spread into Texas, Kansas, and a reserve in Indian Territory.

Okalucians of Bed-a-ra’zes, from Shazas south of Minni Wakam or Devil’s Lake, also printed Tchan Sansan, before Lake Superior, are ancestors of the Wyandot-Iroquois. Pueblo origin is from Shazas, Congoes, Ojazenes, Izoletes, and stragglers into New Mexico. Shintolons of Shintolon, San Diego Bay, and Congoes meet at the lower Colorado and the Rio Gila as ancestors of the Yuma stock.

The later pages, still under the American descent and before he admits the South American gap, continue the same chain. Meltrezens pass from western Tuyanang, Cuba, into Yucatan and are established as Congoes in Shaltecongo. Small remnant tribes inhabited the district now under the northwestern Caribbean, and the main branch extended into the district now under the Gulf of Mexico. Those districts were pre-historically above water and inhabited. A seceded tribe of Gurenzes from the Caribbean district amalgamates with the Congoes of Shaltecongo and changes the descendant race. At the submergence that established the Caribbean, remnants near the Central American mainland remain in various parts of that country, also under amalgamation.

Pure Gurenzes from Guselsic move southwest through the district now under the Caribbean to the vicinity of Point Blanco in Costa Rica, as Teabaskans in the section Tubdeana. As a mixed race of Gurenzes and Kintilucians, or Ynandoes, and by an ultimate amalgamation into the Gurenzes stock, they spread into Nicaragua and the Peninsula of Panama and become the pre-historic ancestors of the classified Central American races. Another tribe of Congoes from Shaltecongo, Yucatan, is established at Vera Cruz as Linzoes in Quintelinzo, pre-historic ancestors of the Mexican Race of the Modern Ancient period. The mixed Gurenzes from the Caribbean, with the Congoes of Shaltecongo, become the pre-historic ancestors of the Maya Quiche of Yucatan and Guatemala, and of their outlying branch in Vera Cruz and Tamaulipas.

Descended Linzoes from Quintelinzo, after the main tribe had branched through Mexico, are established in the district now under San Diego Bay as Shintolons in Shintolon, ancestors of the classified California races. After the drainage of the Great Sharuntrezon Cet, the inland sea, and the establishment of that district as the Great American Desert, descendants of the Linzoes of Quintelinzo, which he here places in southwestern California, and of the Shintolons of Shintolon, southern and northwestern California, migrate in small tribes eastward into Oregon, Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, south and southwest California, north Texas, New Mexico, and north Mexico. Their descendants become the pre-historic ancestors of the classified Shoshone or Snake Family.

Shintolons migrating north from Shintolon are established in the County of Mendocino, California, as Izoletes in the section Izoletes, ancestors of the classified Columbian races. Izoletes migrating into British America, the region of the Admiralty islands, are established as Tezelons in Tezelon, ancestors of the race the scan reads as TKnket or Tlinketantukwan. Tezelons from Q’uintezelon migrate into the Yukon section, between the Rocky mountains and Mt. St. Elias, slightly amalgamated with the Kiordas, as Gangomingoes in Gangomingo, ancestors of the classified Eskimo of that section. Mixed Gangomingoes and Shahaiens from Tinicules, north of the Yukon, are the Eltishazas of Eltishaza, ancestors of the classified Hyperborean races.

Two descended tribes of Gangomingoes leave Gangomingo. One, near the Shahaiens south of the Mackenzie, is lost in the blood of the Shahaiens. One, migrating southwest into southeastern Alaska between Mt. St. Elias and the mouth of the Atna or Copper river, mixes with remnant Kiordas of Korduzulac and keeps the name Gangomingoes. Descending into the Aleutian island districts, that branch becomes the pre-historic ancestors of two families of Aleuts, collectively the Ungungun, comprising the Unalashkans, who call themselves the Kagataya Kung’n, “Men of the East.” He says the Ungungun differ in linguistic and ethnic conditions, and to some extent physically, from the Eskimo of those regions because the Ungungun descend from Gangomingoes and Kiordas, while the Eskimo proper descend from mixed Gangomingoes and Shahaiens.

Teltzie LVIII. Central America, Mexico, and the nine convulsions

The contents figure for this teltzie is dirty. The body opens at printed page 796.

About 1000 years subsequent to the submergence of Atlantis, a great system of nine periodical convulsions occurred, and had place in the region of the West Indies islands, Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea, that occurred throughout a period of about 4500 years.

J. Ben Leslie. Submerged Atlantis Restored (1911), p. 796
J. Ben Leslie. Submerged Atlantis Restored (1911), p. 796

O-ce-a-lan’gus is the first pre-historic name of Central America and Mexico, given by the Congoes about the beginning of the Adomic period. The ranges on the opening pages are these. The Meztrie runs from Trinidad through the Caribbees, Porto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Hayti, and Cuba, to the Bay of Honduras, Yucatan, and Balize, his spelling, and the Bay islands of Honduras. The Mutize has eastern and western branches: Quinto Seno sand banks, Serrana Reef, Old Providence, and Andrew’s islands; the Gayman and the Swan; the Moaquito Banks. The Zede-a runs to Tobago, Tortuga, and Margarita. The Cor-di-zu’lac runs from Gallinas Point, west of the Gulf of Maracaibo, to Tobago, embracing Oruba, Curacao, Buen Ayre, and Los Roguez. The next page continues with the Fuger, the Wan-ze-rick, the Me’di-a Ple-a-celt, and the Gen-ze-rest’ from Tabasco and Campeche to southeast Louisiana and southwest Mississippi, with a central extension from Laralaria Bay. The Lex-o’phis valley is now the eastern half of the Gulf of Mexico. The river Nan-ze’li-e’tus, long and immense, uses the Channel of Yucatan, passes between Jamaica and Serrana Reef, to about 13 degrees north, north of the Magdalena, one degree north of the Gulf of Maracaibo or Venezuela, about 12 degrees north and 12 degrees east from Washington, and then out between Trinidad and Tobago.

The nine convulsions follow. I keep his intervals and his effects, including the latitude that looks odd and the spellings Campeachy, Yucajan, Gaillou, and Manzelietus.

The first is at Exuma Island of the Bahamas. It severs Florida, establishes the Straits of Florida, sinks the land toward Cuba and Hayti, and establishes the Bahamas.

The second, about five hundred years after the first, is at St. Vincent of the Windwards. He also has this convulsion partly establish the Virgin Islands. In the same stretch of the account the force severs Trinidad from the mainland and establishes the Gulf of Paria, the Mouth of the Orinoco, the Serpents Mouth, and the northeast coast of South America as far southeast as Cape North. I leave that Trinidad result in this early part of the series, where the pages place the sentences, rather than moving it to a later number to make a neater map.

The third, about six hundred and fifty years after the second, is on the northeast coast of Mona island, between Porto Rico and Hayti. It establishes Mona island, the Mona Passage, the northern and southern coasts of Porto Rico, the separation from the Virgin islands, which he divides between the second convulsion and the third, the northern and southern coasts of Hayti, the inlet waters and islands, the severance of Hayti from Cuba and Jamaica out to the line of the ninth convulsion, and the Windward Passage.

The fourth, about five hundred years after the third, is in northwest Vera Cruz, between the mainland and Cape Roxo. It establishes the entire western half of the Gulf of Mexico as far east as the then Genzerest range, or to St. Vincent island off Louisiana; Lake Terminos and its islands in the south; and eastern Tabasco in the north. A low mountain, Monzikolos, near the center of the then valley of Quaindrel, sank. He says its continued downward movement will bring submerged Gulf banks into view, and that without constant inflow from tributary streams those banks would now be above water.

The fifth, about nine hundred years after the fourth, is in the southern section of the Genzerest range, near the northwestern coast of Campeachy. The force runs northeast along the range to the southeast coast of Louisiana, sinks the range, and leaves remnants: islands in Lake Terminos between Tabasco and Campeachy, Las Areas west of Yucatan, the scan reading Yucajan, Sunday island to the northwest, and the Great Campeachy Bank north of Yucatan. Eastward it establishes the coast and inlets of western Campeachy and of northern and eastern Yucatan as far south as Espiritu Santo Bay, and it severs Cuba from Yucatan by the Channel of Yucatan. Three sectional convulsions occur at the same time, at Laralaria Bay, Timbalier Bay, and the South West Pass of the Delta of the Mississippi. They establish the coast, inlets, and islands from Gaillou Bay, in southern Louisiana, to Apalachee Bay, Florida, and south to the line of the fifth convulsion, and they extend open Gulf waters to a line northeast from the western point of Cuba and the western border of Apalachee Bay. They establish the present terminal of the Great Manzelietus, or Mississippi, with five Passes and five Bays.

The sixth, about seven hundred years after the fifth, is at the Bay island off the northern coast of Honduras. It forms the Bay islands, the Bay of Honduras, and the inlet waters, banks, reefs, and islands on the eastern coast of Balize as far north as the southern boundary of the fifth convulsion, northeast to the center of the Channel of Yucatan, and east to Cape Cameron, Honduras.

The seventh, about six hundred years after the sixth, is in the southern portion of the eastern branch of the Mutize range, in Old Providence island, east of Nicaragua. It runs north to near the southwest coast of Jamaica and south to Costa Rica and Panama. It establishes protrudings, islands, and reefs from Serrana Reef to the Albuquerque Keys, the northeast coast of Costa Rica, the northern coast and inlets and islands of Yucatan, the Gulf of Darien, and the South American coast northeast to the Magdalena. Westward along the western Mutize branch, to the point between Great Gayman and the Swan islands, it establishes the islands and sand banks from Swan island north to the eastern extremity of Costa Rica. He says this establishes the southern and southeastern Caribbean as far north as about sixty degrees north latitude. I print that latitude as he does. The southwestern portion, he says, had been formed by the sixth convulsion, linking those waters into the Gulf of Mexico.

The eighth, about three hundred years after the seventh, is amid the islands off the north central coast of Cardenas, Cuba. It runs west to the extremity of Cuba and east to the boundary of the western department, or Yama Bay, and to the boundary of the first convulsion, completing the northern coast of Cuba. Farther north and northeast, to the peninsula of Florida, it establishes the islands and reefs from the Tortugas to the mainland, and the inlets and islands on the western coast of Florida to Apalachee Bay. It completes the Gulf of Mexico and links that gulf with the North Atlantic.

The ninth, about one hundred years after the eighth, is in the northern section of the western branch of the Mutize range, off the southern coast of Santa Cruz, Cuba. It forms the entire southern coast of Cuba, the inlet waters, the Isle of Pines, and other coast islands. It extends east to the boundary of the third convulsion and west to the boundary of the fifth and the sixth, and south and southeast to the seventh. That completes the sinking of the northern section of the two branches of the Mutize range, establishes Jamaica, its coast, and its inlet waters, and establishes the two islands the scan of this page reads as the Cayman islands. The mountain chapter had printed Gayman. I keep both. The ninth completes the Caribbean, which this page spells in the joined way the scan gives as Carribbean, by linking the northwestern section to the portions already formed by the sixth and the seventh.

The pre-historic or aboriginal Americans

Still inside this teltzie, he returns to the West Indies, the Caribbean, the Gulf, and the Meltrezen, the Yunandoes or mixed Gurenzes and Kintilucians, and the ultimate Gurenzes who were a total blend with the Yunandoes. From those peoples and their further migrations into South America, Central America, Mexico, and North America he derives the tree of Aboriginal American or American Indian races. The Maya Quiche naming belongs to this stretch, as I recorded under North America, because the pages repeat the Yucatan migration while closing the convulsions.

On the page numbered 804 he stops.

He says that, owing to the extent of the work, the general portion of the Teltzie on South America has been left out. In future editions he proposes to amplify some sections already given, insert the Teltzie on South America, and publish the work in two volumes. So that the ethnographic links may not be entirely severed, he gives a compressed list of pre-historic peoples, their locations, and historic descendants. The scan of these two pages joins words. I separate only the names that separate cleanly, and I do not rebuild the rest into a cleaner ethnology.

The migration order is this. A migrating tribe of Kacedricks in Dimtimzeon, Venezuela, became the Zimeons. One of Schanandarits into Geuselsic, the Maracaibo Gulf section, became the Selsics. One of the Zimeons into Indris, Guiana, became the Indris. One of the Gurenzes into their Shushock, the United States of Columbia, became the Shushocks. One of the Indris into Quetese, southern Venezuela, became the Queteses. One of the Selsics into their Sanchon, again the United States of Columbia, became the Sanchons. Tribes of Sanchons into Equador, his spelling, and into Exkuien, Peru, became the Exkuiens. One of the Exkuiens into Getresan, southern Bolivia, became the Getresans. One of the Getresans into Zelgoliot, southern Chili, became the Zelgoliots. One of the Zelgoliots into Concoseshan, Tierra del Fuego, became the Concoseshans. A mixed race of Atlantians and Schirants into Tierra del Fuego became a branch of the Chazahaens. A mixed race of the Sanchons and the Mellenthaes of Romarareya, north of the Amazon, became the Triostes. A mixed race of the Sanchons and the Mellenthaes of Wapeana, in the Minas Geraes region, became the Wapeanas. A tribe of Zanranzans into Lenitemo, the section between the Sierra de Mar and the Sierra Monlequeira, became the Haendeces.

The historic descendants, still in his order, are these. The Concoseshans became ancestors of the tribes south of and in Patagonia. The Selsics, of the Waraus of the Coast region. The Zimeons, of the Arawacks of the Coast region. A mixed race of Schanandarits and Kacedricks, of the Barre Family. The Shushocks and the Sancons, of the classified New Granada and Guiana races of the United States of Columbia. The Sancons, of the New Granada and Guiana races in Brazilian Guiana, embracing the Carib Family. The Indris, of the New Granada and Guiana races, embracing the unclassified aborigines of the interior of the British, Dutch, and German Guianas. A tribe of Queteses, of the classified New Granada and Guiana races, embracing the Wapeanas in the Savannah region. A tribe of Sancons of Equador, of the classified Peruvian and Bolivian races, embracing the primitive Cura tribes, now extinct. A tribe of Shushacks of Equador, of the same classified races, embracing the primitive Puruha of Equador, the Jivaros of Pastassa, and the Zaparos of the Upper Napo. The Exkuioes, of the classified Peruvian and Bolivian races, embracing the Peruvians of the aboriginal Quichua races and the five nations who collectively are termed Antisians. The descended Getresans, of the classified Peruvian and Bolivian races, embracing the civilized Quinchua and the Ayamara, or Inac Indians, of the western highlands; the half civilized Indians of Molos and Chiquitos; the Samucus, Curaves, Tapiis, and Corabaccas, originally in the south; the Saravecas, Otukes, Curmuminacas, and others in the southeast; and the Paiconecas in the northwest. He prints both Quichua and Quinchua. The Zelgoliots, of the classified Austral races, embracing the Auca of Chili and Patagonia, the Mouche or highlanders, the Lavquenche or coast people, and the Huilliche or southerners. The Heltezas appear in this descendant list, for the Patagonians, the Tchuelche, and others, without a matching sentence in the migration list above. I leave them where he put them. The Concoseshans, again, of the Alacaluf group of Fuegians. The Chazahaens, of the Yahgans and Fuegians of Tierra del Fuego. A tribe of Wapeanas, of the Brazilian races, embracing the southern division of the Guariana Family. The Triostes, of the Tupi Family. The Haendeces, of the Brazilian races, embracing the non-Guarani element collectively known to the Tupis as Tapuyas. The mixed race of Atlantians and Schirants, or the branch of Chazahaens, of the primitive Bushmen.

Sanchons, Sancons, and Shushacks sit on these pages as variant forms of the names just introduced. I do not pick one spelling for all of them.

E-un’du

The contents place E-un’du, Ending, inside Teltzie LVIII, not as a separate numbered teltzie. The body prints the heading at printed page 806 and closes at 807.

E-un’du speaks as Re-me’na spoke at the opening. The speaker always was, is now, and forever shall be. Cycles of evolution do not cease. What seems to be the end is the process of spirit and matter returning to the condition that made them visible as individuals. A hybrid cycle re-embodies the co-united parent individualities. The material cycle turns in the zone of atomic matter, throws off particles that assume individual form, and gathers them again when they disintegrate. The spiritual cycle turns the same way and carries the individualized spirit and soul farther away. Bodies last as material and mortal epi-cycles. Spirit and soul move on as individualized epi-cycles of God Eternal. Material epi-cycles are created, disintegrated, re-blended, and reconstructed. Spiritual ones are individualized and continued on the deferent of the Over Soul and Over Spirit, governed by Animation, Extension, and Duration.

Re-mena and E-un’du, beginning and ending, weld the cycles while they meet and blend. He concludes that E-un’du is also Re-me’na, a beginning, and that Re-me’na is also E-un’du, an ending, and that the end is beginning and the beginning is end. The page is signed J. BEN. LESLIE. The poem adds no new city, race, or date. It returns the book to the cosmology of Teltzie I.

The last printed page is 807. Blank file pages follow the signature. He has already said, on page 804, that the general South America teltzie was omitted. I do not treat that omission as a chapter I read.
