A Spacewoman Speaks (1960)

I read A Spacewoman Speaks for the names, places, and times a later writer can set beside the other accounts on this site. The title page prints the author as Rolf Telano, and the publisher as Understanding Publishing Co., 1960, El Monte, California. Daniel W. Fry signs the foreword as publisher. The speaker in the introduction signs herself Borealis. The quotations below are short excerpts. This copy is an A4 reset. The chapter pages print no page numbers. The contents table was set up for that A4 format, and its page numbers match the file pages I cite. The same contents page says the illustrations used here were not in the original book. Notes signed Rune Øverby or Rø-rem are in this file and are not the 1960 text. I leave both out.

Findings worth setting beside other writers

• Who is speaking. Borealis, high Priestess of the Mother Temple of her people on Venus. Her people may be called the Nors. Their deity is the Unnameable. She says she is a mortal, and not infallible (file p. 2 and file p. 3).
• When the text was received. Fry says Rolf Telano received it in 1954, and that publication waited until the book itself (file p. 2). The title page prints 1960.
• Adam and the Garden. The Garden of Eden was the biological laboratory of the Elder Races. Adam is not the name of an individual. The Adams were sent out of the Garden as a precaution, not as a punishment (file p. 4).
• How long the Guardians stayed. In person, for many thousands of years. Their own life span is counted in thousands of years, and they carry important memories from one life to the next. No numeral is printed (file p. 5).
• Where the Nors worked. Their former zone was the North European area. She says the Nordic races took their name from the Nors (file p. 5).
• Inside the Earth. The page prints “Genesis 64.” The Elder Races lived in the Earth, not on it, and the Garden was in the Earth. The biblical accounts deal with one zone, the Hebraic-Greco-Assyrian zone. There were several Gardens. The coordinating authority was a mortal of a higher race than the Elders (file p. 6).
• Azatlan and Bal. A tertiary moon, named Azatlan, also known as Bal. It came so close to Earth that it was torn to pieces. A few fragments still orbit Earth as an asteroid belt. The disturbance changed the position of Luna and made it unsuitable for surface life (file p. 6 and file p. 7).
• Atlantis. The Atlans were settled in the former continent of Atlantis, which took its name from them. They spread their colonies all over the Mediterranean. She prints no year, and she does not narrate a sinking on this page. Later she says the entire Mediterranean was originally a colony of the Atlans (file p. 7 and file p. 27).
• The Luninians. Settled in the central part of Asia. Many died when great geological changes took place there. She names no city and no year (file p. 7).
• Mu. She spells the people Lemuians, and also writes Lemurians and Lemuia. Ancient Mu, or Lemuria, was destroyed. The priesthood fled to the mountains which are now Hawaii. The other Pacific islands descend from the lesser Lemuians. Colonies ran east to South and Central America and the west coast of North America, and west to China, India, the Hebraic-Assyrian areas, and Upper Egypt (file p. 26). Lemuia was destroyed by Black Huna. The physical cause was the shattered fragments of Azatlan. She says the destruction of Mu is the only instance she knows of such a catastrophe being deliberately caused (file p. 27).
• A second ruined planet. The band of asteroids between Mars and Jupiter are the remains of a former planet, whose people discovered atomic energy too soon. This is not the sentence about Azatlan (file p. 32).
• Bases. For many ages the Nors have had bases and colonies on Mars and Venus, and advanced bases on Luna. Visitors who say they come from Mars or Venus are naming their last port of call. Her present home is not on the Venus we see, but on a higher frequency world, somewhat larger (file p. 9 and file p. 10).

The foreword, and who is speaking

Fry’s foreword says the book reports information the author received from some other source. He dates the reception, and he explains the delay.

The following text was received by Rolf Telano in 1954, but because it was felt at that time there would be little likelihood of its acceptance by the general public, its publication was delayed until today.

The introduction is in the voice of one of the people who control the craft. She gives her name, and she says the names in the book are translations.

To introduce myself, my name, translated into your written language, is "Borealis." It might be noted that all names used in this explanation have been thus translated.

She calls Venus her home, and she says her people did not originate there. On the next page she gives the office. They are monotheists. The one Deity is the First Cause and Creator of all things.

I am the high Priestess of the Mother Temple of our people on Venus.

We call it the Unnameable, because we believe that no word or name can create the correct mental picture of It.

She says she is neither omniscient nor infallible. They are not demons come to destroy, and not gods come to deliver. She signs the introduction Borealis.

The contents table of this copy prints eleven chapters: In the Beginning, The Garden of Eden, Everywhere Is Home, The Sauces, The Space Patrol, Mores and Morals, Reincarnation, Health, Mental Powers, Religion, and The Present Mission. The fourth title is printed “The Sauces.”

The Nors, the Garden, and the name Adam

Chapter One is In the Beginning. The Nors operate most, but not all, of the strange craft. They are one of the Elder Races, or Guardians. Other races are also present. The Elder Races have guarded the planet since the first humans appeared, and they have never been completely absent. In a crisis their numbers increase.

They created the physical bodies of our ancestors. They did not create the spiritual bodies. Those parts of the Self are of the Unnameable. The method she compares to animal breeders producing a new species. Selected parents were bred to fix the desired traits.

The Biblical "Garden of Eden" was the biological laboratory of these Elder Races. The word "Adam" is not the name of an individual, but a racial or group name.

The Adams were sent out of the Garden as a precaution. They were learning things it was not good for them to know so early. She says the women got the blame, and that the worst that can be said of this ancient Eve is that she slightly hastened what would have been done anyway. A line she quotes from the Bible, “Behold, the man has become as one of us,” is, for her, a lesser being speaking to equals, the Elder Races. The printed line is broken. I do not repair it.

She will not contend with a reader who prefers to say the Deity personally created the races. In one sense, she says, they are right, because the Unnameable is the sole First Cause and may employ mundane means. The Adams took the Elder Races for supernatural beings. In the latter parts of the Bible the same beings become “sons of God” and “prophets.” The latter Greeks, she says, realized that their gods were mortals of exceptional powers, and were not always good.

The Guardians remained on your planet, in person, for many thousands of years.

To us, she says, that would be a long time. In their own time concept it was an interlude.

We not only count our life span in thousands of years, but also carry our most important memories forward from one life to the next.

When the Adams could be left to themselves, the Guardians left. Accounts of the leaving are in ancient records, which the peoples of those times could not describe in scientific terms. Since then the Guardians have not appeared openly. A few craft remain in the skies, and surface observers live among us, selected and trained so they are not detected.

Our natural appearance has a very close superficial resemblance to your own Nordic races, who, incidentally, took their name from us. Our former zone of activity was the North European area, and the people there were our particular charge.

In the latter days there was some mixture of Elder Race blood with the Adams. She quotes the sons of God and the daughters of men, and she says that statement, like the others in the Bible, refers specifically to the Near East, which was under the supervision of other peoples. In general, she says, the same statements would apply to the other areas.

Inside the Earth, Azatlan, and Atlantis

Chapter Two is The Garden of Eden. She cites the Bible for the Elders living in the Earth, and she cites an apocryphal book for the first day on the surface. The citation is printed “Genesis 64,” and the apocryphal title is printed “Apocryhas.”

As your Bible correctly records (Genesis 64) the Elder Races lived in the Earth, not on it. The Garden of Eden was naturally also in the Earth, and the Adams were sent up and out on to the surface.

The Apocryhas account of their first day and night on the surface (First Book of Adam and Eve) tells of their dismay when the sun set, and their terror when it rose again the next morning.

There were several Gardens, one for each Elder Race, with exchange of technical personnel. Over them was a coordinating authority, of a higher race than the Elders, still a mortal. Decisions were by mutual consultation, and the groups usually put them into effect at the same time. The biblical accounts deal with only the Hebraic-Greco-Assyrian zone. Other Adamic races have their own versions of the first days, partly factual and partly allegorical, and much changed in translation. Analyzed with that in mind, she says they are basically the same.

“God created man in his own image” is, for her, true in two ways. The inner self is part of the Unnameable. Each Elder Race made its Adams look as nearly like themselves as possible. Internal changes were necessary. The surface appearance matched the makers.

The parent stock was many low-vibrational life-forms, human and non-human, from many other worlds.

Persons and animals are occasionally taken from your planet in a similar manner for the purpose of populating some other young world. The consent of such persons is always obtained.

If they do not agree, the memories are erased and they are returned unharmed. She says the genealogy of the present races is almost impossible to trace. Former lands are gone, new ones have risen, and the present races are mixtures. Besides the races bred on this planet, two groups were developed elsewhere and moved here when disaster faced their own planets.

You formerly had a tertiary moon, which was named "Azatlan," although it also was known as "Bal" to some. Due to certain natural laws, it came so close to Earth that it was torn to pieces by conflicting forces.

The fragments fell as meteors. She calls that rain of fire a thing noted in ancient writings and legends. The next page takes up the survivors.

A few of the fragments still orbit Earth as an asteroid belt. The resulting disturbance also changed the position of Luna and made it unsuitable for surface life.

The next printed sentence has no verb between “They” and “as the predominant factor.” The claim, as she gives it, is that they are the predominant factor in the present peoples of the nations of this part of the world.

The Luninians were settled in the central part of Asia. Many of them died when certain great geological changes took place in this area, but they have left their mark on many Asiatic peoples.

She prints no year for Azatlan, for the settling of the Atlans, or for the geological changes in Asia. She does not say which sea took Atlantis, and she does not say that the continent sank on this page. The word she uses is “former.”

The same page gives the reason the Elder Races lived underground. Radioactive solar emanations on this Earth-plane made them age before their time and cut their life span to a fraction of its normal length. On their own vibrational level they are above those radiations. She calls the same poisons the chief cause of our short life span. They settle in the bones and tissues. A newborn, she says, would register no radioactivity, because the mother’s body filters the emanations. Deep in the Earth a zone of light let them build homes. The underworld became multi-tiered, under land and sea, and its total area was much greater than the surface. They still regarded the caverns as undesirable. When the Adams no longer needed constant supervision, most of the Elders left. A few remained.

Caverns, Shaver, and the Deros

The few who stayed, once free of the main group, brought in evil members of the Adamic peoples. The surface peoples they were supposed to guide were tortured. Among the Adams the underworld changed from a place of good to a place of evil. Forces were sent. Some of the “mad gods” were removed for treatment. Others were restrained for the rest of their lives. The entrances were sealed. Since then, small groups have found uncovered entrances. Much of the cavern system still exists, and small groups still live there.

The writings of Richard S. Shaver, which caused somewhat of a stir in occult circles a while ago, describe many of the features of the caverns.

She says those writings are fictionalized reports and must be read critically. Rare incidents were presented as typical, and some details are entirely fictional. Sex was stressed because it sells. If one took the tales as fact, she says, the ancestors would look immoral.

Horror is another subject of great reader fascination, so the "Deros" were greatly overstressed. There are a few in the Elders' abandoned cavern homes who would fall into this classification, but their influence is insignificant.

The evils of this world are, for her, our own decadence, the breakdown that has prefaced the last days of former civilizations. She says this is not a mystical prophecy. The pattern could be changed if conduct matched natural law, and she says there is no present indication that it will be changed.

Mars, Venus, and Luna

Chapter Three is Everywhere Is Home. The Elder Races do not come from one specific place. They inhabit a countless number of places. If they once had a home, the records of it have been lost.

There are Nors in several different solar systems. For many ages past they have had bases and colonies on Mars and Venus.

Other Elder Races have similar installations on other planets.

We maintain advanced bases on Luna, as also do several other groups.

Mars and Venus are the check-in points for visitors coming to this world, because they are the nearest planets. The visitors, not the Nors on duty, have made most of the contacts.

When these visitors say they have come from Mars, or Venus, or some other nearby planet, they are merely stating their last port of call, and not their real origin.

Some come on a self-assumed mission, some to learn, some on what she calls a pleasure cruise.

The Nors, in common with the other Elder Races, normally live on a vibrational level, or "wave length," which is much higher than your own.

On that level we would not perceive them, and they would not normally perceive us. They can tune down, by mental effort or by a mechanism. At the Luna base a master pulse generator blankets the planet with the frequency that holds them on our level. She describes one recent incident over Washington, D.C. The craft disappeared from sight, a flight of aircraft flew through the spot, and the radar still recorded the craft. The operators had raised their frequency slightly to avoid a collision. She prints no date for that incident.

On the next page she separates the Venus we see from the world she lives on.

My present home is not on the Venus you see, but on a higher frequency level world which is somewhat larger than the "Venus" which you know.

Mu, Hawaii, and the Atlans

Chapter Nine is Mental Powers. Among the ancient peoples, the Lemuians were the most skilled in creative thought. She keeps that spelling in this passage, and she uses another spelling a page later.

Among the ancient peoples of your planet, the Lemuians were the most skilled in the use of this almost-forgotten art of creative thought. The Polynesians of the South Sea Islands are the closest lineal descendants of the Lemuians.

The most reliable remains of the lore would, she thinks, be among the natives of Hawaii, in spite of the intermixing. The reason is where the priesthood went.

When ancient Mu (or Lemuria) was destroyed, the priesthood fled to the mountains, which are now Hawaii, whereas those on the other islands in the Pacific have descended from the lesser Lemuians.

The colonies of Mu extended eastward to South and Central America, and to the west coast of North America. To the west they included what is now China, India, the Hebraic-Assyrian areas, and Upper Egypt.

The culture in the colonies was not as high as in the Motherland. Egypt is the possible exception, if ancient records still exist, and even then the information would not be as reliable as that of Hawaii. The Egyptians were very accurate historians. Their Temple Records probably came close to the records of Mu. Most of them were destroyed by the Mohammedan invaders. Moses had become a Master in the Egyptian temples before he wrote the Old Testament, and he carried some of those sciences into the Hebrew religion. Much of it was written so that only initiates could understand it. Large parts were later lost.

The Mediterranean, in this chapter, is the Atlans’ colony, and she measures them against the Lemurians in the mental sciences. Here the spelling is Lemurians.

The entire Mediterranean area was originally a colony of the Atlans, who were not particularly skilled in the use of these mental sciences.

They picked up parts of it in their latter days, because of close cultural ties with the Lemurians. Fragments might remain in the records or customs of those peoples. She does not expect them to be complete or reliable.

The sciences are what we now call Huna. They were not necessarily good. On this page the land is spelled Lemuia.

Lemuia was destroyed by the use of "Black Huna."

The social system was master and serf. In the latter days the masters gave themselves to sensual pleasures, and the serfs used their mental powers to destroy the Motherland, the masters, and themselves. The physical cause is Azatlan again, the same moon as in chapter two.

The physical cause of the catastrophe was the shattered fragments of Azatlan, the former tertiary moon, which crashed into subterranean gas pockets, causing great earthquakes and violent volcanic eruptions.

The downward course of the meteors was influenced by the combined mental efforts of millions of serfs. Smaller events of the same kind have happened by accident.

So far as is known, the destruction of Mu is the only instance where such a catastrophe was deliberately caused.

After the destruction, the remaining Masters banded into priestly orders and kept the lore from ordinary people. Fragments survive as small occult or religious cults, badly distorted. Some of the lore has been handed down among certain Inner Groups of the Masonic lodges. Ordinary members are usually unaware of it.

Considerable research into the ancient Lemuian mental sciences has been done by a group led by Max Freedom Long.

She doubts it will gain wide support now. The spelling in that sentence is Lemuian. White Huna, as she uses the name, requires the higher laws. Black Huna, used to harass or destroy, is simpler, and those who employ it will fall by it.

The present mission

Chapter Eleven is The Present Mission. Because the Elder Races developed the material bodies, they took the moral and karmic responsibility for whatever happened afterward. They have tried to guide the Adamic races since the beginnings. The guiding hand must touch lightly. One climactic period is now. For several years scientific advancement has been unbalanced. The most important case is the premature discovery of nuclear fission and fusion. Present atomic experiments, she says, are not a great danger to other planes. Continued long enough, they will make all forms of life extinct on this planet. A further method could react with constituents of the planet and destroy it.

The band of asteroids between Mars and Jupiter are the remains of a former planet.

Its people discovered atomic energy too soon and lacked the ethics to use it. The result was catastrophic on all planets and planes. She is concerned that our people might duplicate that event. I keep this planet separate from Azatlan. Azatlan was a tertiary moon of Earth. This sentence is about a planet between Mars and Jupiter.

In an atomic war they might do nothing, or a great deal, depending on the circumstances. They care more for the whole population than for one nation. They would not forcibly restrain a people unless the act threatened other planets or planes. They do not intend to take over existing governments or to set up a super-government, and their code prohibits killing except as a last resort. The permanent solution, for her, is education.

At the time of the text they were watching the relations between the U.S.A. and the U.S.S.R., because a war between those two powers would be the most likely path to dangerous nuclear reactions. She says a conflict is very unlikely in the near future. Each side fears the other. The book prints no year on that judgment. Fry’s date for the reception remains 1954.

She prints no year for the settling of Atlantis, and no year for the destruction of Mu. The two ruined bodies stay separate. One is Azatlan, a tertiary moon, also called Bal. The other is a former planet whose remains are the asteroids between Mars and Jupiter.
