The Mahabharata is one of the longest epic poems in world literature, and it reads more like a library than a single story. There is a family feud, a great war, a sermon on a battlefield, a flood, a churning ocean and cities in the sky. Because it holds so much, writers on ancient contact keep coming back to it. On this site it is cited for floods, for the ages of the world, for lost cities and for weapons that sound far too modern. This page collects those uses in one place.
The epic and its war
The Kurukshetra War – 3102 BCE describes the Mahabharata War as an 18-day battle between the Pandavas and the Kauravas, and says it marked the move into the Kali Yuga. Ancient wars gives the same war among other conflicts of the old world. Krishna’s part in it, as Arjuna’s charioteer and the voice of the Bhagavad Gita, has its own page at Krishna. Vishnu adds that the Gita is part of the Mahabharata.
Kings, yugas and a changing ruler
Four Yugas and The Hindu Puranic King List both trace the Lunar Dynasty from Ila to kings like Yudhishthira of the Mahabharata. Ila explains that in the Linga Purana and the Mahabharata, Ila is a daughter turned into a man by Mitra and Varuna. On Padma Purana the signs of the Kali Yuga are drawn from the Puranas and the Mahabharata.
Flood and churning ocean
Flood Stories from Around the World notes that in the Mahabharata the fish that warns Manu is revealed as a form of Vishnu or Brahma, and Manu takes seven sages and the seeds of all plants aboard. The creation story in Tibetan Buddhism names the Mahabharata among the texts of the Samudra Manthan, the churning of the ocean. On Memories of a rapid axis-shift the oldest layers of the Rigveda and the Mahabharata are read as keeping fragments of an axis tilt and a cosmic freezing.
Vimanas and the war in the sky
Jim Marrs takes the epic into the cities of the Indus. On Sumer: The First Known Civilization he writes:
An ancient Indian text called the Mahabharata describes how war broke out between the early “Masters” of the cities of Harappa, Mohenjo Daro, and another city, Kot Diji.
Jim Marrs, Our Occulted History
He goes on to describe flying machines called vimanas launching a weapon as devastating as an atomic bomb. On Anunnaki Wars in Ancient India British researcher David Davenport spends 12 years on the Mahabharata and concludes that Mohenjo-Daro was destroyed by a nuclear weapon. On Humanity’s genetic code was altered around 200,000 years ago the epic’s weapons are again compared with modern nuclear bombs.
On Ancient Aliens at War: Disguised as God’s Servants Erich von Däniken tells how Arjuna was taken up to cities in the sky and saw a war there. On Alien Reptile Gods, Giants & Super Machines and Floating Crane Found Beneath Great Pyramid? the vimanas of the Mahabharata and Ramayana stand as evidence of prehistoric flight.
Dwarka under the sea
On At Last, This Indian Researcher Discovers This Shocking Truth! Dwarka, the city of Krishna described in the Mahabharata, is traced to walls and structures found under the sea, and the texts are said to hold historical insight as well as myth.
Other echoes
The Oera Linda Book Reviewed compares the bloodshed of the Kurukshetra War with the Watchers’ violence before the flood. World Elephant points to Sri Aurobindo’s retelling of a Mahabharata story with the elephant Mahapadma.
