Paul Wallis on Abraham Moses and the Elohim

Paul Wallis, with Neil on Portal to Ascension, reads Genesis as several origin stories fused together. Abraham and Sarah, he claims, are not only Hebrew founders. Without vowels the names match Brahma and Saraswati, so the couple are also a human beginnings tale known from the Vedas. In his Eden books they conceive only after three visitors who look like people. Two of those beings go on to Sodom and Gomorrah. He places the departure near Van and Ararat, by the god Haldi, not on the usual map. Moses sits in an older polytheism. Deuteronomy 32 and Psalm 82, Wallis says, show a high El dividing lands among Elohim, powerful ones. Yahweh is a junior with a people and no land, so he must take them out of Egypt. The laws and the wars follow the pattern of dragon stories. The calf and Asherah are memories of helpful beings that later kings tried to erase. He calls the early canon a memory of paleo contact, rewritten by the sixth century so that Yahweh alone remains.

Key points

  • Wallis treats Abraham and Sarah as a human origins pair parallel to Brahma and Saraswati, not only as national founders.
  • Their child, in his reading, follows a visit by advanced beings who then go to Sodom and Gomorrah.
  • He places the story in the Van region near Ararat rather than on the conventional map.
  • Moses and Yahweh, he says, belong to a company of Elohim, with Yahweh a junior who must seize land.
  • The calf and Asherah are, for him, memories of helpful beings that later reforms tried to erase.
  • He calls the early material a canon of paleo contact, rewritten by the sixth century into sole worship of Yahweh.
