The memory of Atlantis, a lost continent of advanced knowledge and power, reflects a great civilization destroyed not by chance but by moral decay and natural catastrophe, akin to biblical judgment.
In Hebrew Scriptures, Noah’s flood is depicted as divine response to human moral disorder (raʿ). This parallels esoteric accounts of Atlantis’s end as an era of wickedness.
The Corruption of the Heart
Genesis 6:5 states: “The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” The Hebrew term raʿ (Strong’s H7451) appears twice in this verse: first as raʿat (wickedness) in “the wickedness of man was great in the earth,” and second as raʿ (evil) in “every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” This aligns with the verse’s portrayal of humanity’s inherent corruption before the flood. In 1 Enoch 8:1-3: “And Azazel taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals of the earth and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all colouring tinctures. And there arose much godlessness, and they committed fornication, and they were led astray, and became corrupt in all their ways.” Watchers taught sorcery, metallurgy, and astrology, hastening corruption.
Biblical prohibitions include Deuteronomy 18:10-11: “There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination [qesem] or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer [keshef] or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead.” Knowledge apart from obedience leads to ruin. Late Atlanteans manipulated etheric forces and life, crossing spiritual boundaries.

The flood in Genesis cleanses moral chaos to restore order, preserving the righteous like Noah for alignment with the divine. Esoteric views see Atlantis’s submergence as similar restraint: waters express divine limits, sweeping away the wicked while remnants carry wisdom to new cycles.
