Anakim
A year later King Chedorlaomer and his allies attacked and defeated the Rephaites in Ashteroth-Karnaim, the Zuzites in Ham, and the Emites in Shaveh-Kiriathaim. They also defeated the Horites in the hill country of Edom, as far as El-Paran, near the desert.
Association with the Rephaites:
The Anakim are identified as a tribe of the Rephaites in Deuteronomy 2:11, a group often described as giants or mighty warriors in ancient texts.
Like the Anakites, they too were considered Rephaites, but the Moabites called them Emites.
Zuzites
In the fourteenth year, Kedorlaomer and the kings allied with him went out and defeated the Rephaites in Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzites in Ham, the Emites in Shaveh Kiriathaim
Rephaites
Rephaite
Emites and Anakites were considered Rephaites (Deuteronomy 2:10-11)
The term "Rephaite" or "Repha'im" from the Hebrew Bible and other ancient texts in the region refers to two distinct concepts.
Despite these divergent interpretations, it's important to note that modern translations clearly differentiate between the "Rephaites" as a tribe (e.g., in Genesis 14:5; 15:18–21; Deuteronomy 2:11–20) and "rephaim" as inhabitants of the underworld (e.g., in Isaiah 14:9–11; 26:13–15).
(The Emites used to live there—a people strong and numerous, and as tall as the Anakites. Like the Anakites, they too were considered Rephaites, but the Moabites called them Emites.
The concept of "Rephaites" or "Repha'im" in the Hebrew Bible is multifaceted, encompassing both an ancient race of giants in Canaan and beings associated with the afterlife.
These texts describe the Rephaites as a formidable race, often in the context of battles and conquests.
Anak is another figure described as a Rephaite.
