Leviticus is the priests’ book of the Torah, full of laws on offerings, purity and the holy place, and on this site I keep reading it for what it says about the god who gave those laws. These are the pages that draw on it.
Fire before the LORD
The sharpest story in Leviticus is about two priests:
And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD.
Leviticus 10:1-2 (KJV)
The Hierarchy of YHWH quotes these verses next to Leviticus 16:2, where Aaron is told not to come into the Most Holy Place at just any time, lest he die. Transport of the Ark of the Covenant comes back to the same strange fire. On The Ark of the Covenant and All Levites were members of the tribe of Levi, which had been chosen by God to serve Him only the high priest may approach the Ark, once a year on the Day of Atonement.
Laws for strangers, slaves and the forbidden
On The Gerim: Welcome, but Not Mixed I follow how Leviticus welcomes the stranger as one of your own while keeping the priestly line apart in marriage. On Slavery Leviticus 25 is part of the Levitical code traditionally attributed to Moses. On Who Was Moloch? Leviticus 18:21 and 20:2-5 forbid giving children to Molech. On Goliath and The worship of Crawling things the dietary laws of Leviticus 11 are read for what scales and creeping things meant. On Defending the Book of Enoch and Explaining the Pre- and Post-Flood Nephilim the summary says Skiba links the scapegoat of Leviticus 16 to Azazel.
