I read The Convoluted Universe, Book One for the claims a later writer can set beside Plato, the flood stories, and the other Atlantis books. The copy in front of me is the sequel to The Custodians. The title page names Dolores Cannon and Ozark Mountain Publishers, Huntsville, Arkansas. The copyright page is dated 2001 and lists a first printing in 2001, a second in 2003, and a third in 2006. The book is in copyright. The quotations below are short excerpts for review and study. Page numbers are the printed page numbers.

She works by hypnosis, in what she calls the somnambulistic state, and she treats herself as the reporter of what the subjects and the other speakers say. Chapter 6 is Atlantis. The subjects do not agree with each other, and she says that is because they were looking at different times. Her own conclusion is that Atlantis was not one continent, one city, or one place. The name was given to the world as a whole, and it has become attached to the most developed part. A subject she marks P puts the original location in the Atlantic Ocean and says most of that continent is now under water. Brenda, marked B, describes the people and, on a later page, the day the land broke. John, speaking for a librarian on the spirit side, gives crystals, sunlight driven into the ground, and a bore into the molten core. I did not find a year for that sinking. The year 12,500 is on another page, and it dates drawings in the desert, which the next page calls the Nazca lines.

The book at a glance

  • Title: The Convoluted Universe, Book One.
  • Author: Dolores Cannon.
  • Edition I read: Copyright 2001. Ozark Mountain Publishing, Huntsville, Arkansas. The copyright page lists printings in 2001, 2003, and 2006. ISBN 1-886940-82-7. She calls it the sequel to The Custodians.
  • What she claims: Atlantis was a name for the world of that time, later attached to the most developed part. The history stretched over many thousands of years. The people began reddish-blond, with green or hazel eyes, and tended to be tall. A crystal city, which she also calls an energy city, had an average life in the forty and fifty year bracket. People outside it, if they were careful of cleanliness and diet, could reach the sixties and seventies. The place P is asked about was in the Atlantic Ocean. The sinking, in Brenda’s account, was an earthquake and lava, then mud shoals that blocked ships for centuries, then tidal waves. John adds crystal power, sunlight sent into the ground, and a bore into the molten core. Phil says a flood legend can be that sinking seen from the land. Lemuria, or Mu, is named as another continent. A count of 136 tribal clans, and a remnant he dates at about twenty thousand years, belong to that Lemurian session, not to the Atlantic sinking.

Findings worth setting beside other writers

  • Her own definition. The Atlantis material was gathered over fifteen years. She thinks the subjects saw different periods, so the reports can look contradictory. Atlantis was not a single continent, city, or place. It was a name given to the world as a whole at that time. The name has become associated with the most developed part. The civilization existed for thousands of years, rose, and then deteriorated. Many people living now were also alive then, and have returned because the world is again near the same kind of fall. She has been told that living now can repay karma that would normally take ten lifetimes (p. 140).
  • How long, and who helped. Brenda says the history of Atlantis stretched over many thousands of years. Asked whether it was the first advanced civilization, she says it is hard to say, because before Atlantis arose the main civilization on this Earth was from the galactic community helping mankind, and they helped Atlantis (p. 140). I found no start year and no end year on this page.
  • The people. On p. 142 Brenda says they started basically reddish-blond, with a few brown-haired, a complexion between olive and creamy, usually green or hazel eyes, and that they tended to be tall and well-formed. Later they were a mixture: blond or black-haired, brown-eyed, light skin and dark skin. Ancestry could sometimes be read from coloring, and it did not matter to them. Atlantis was slightly ahead of the other civilizations because it started first. Another voice on the same page says they did not base the culture on metal. They used stone and clay, and they manipulated energies, including gravity, so they could raise huge blocks of stone.
  • Where. P, asked for the location on a modern map, says it was in the Atlantic Ocean. Areas that were land have sunk and some have reemerged. Areas that were under water are now land. The majority of the continent is below water now. The United States, in the same answer, was part of the ocean floor at one time, and he refuses the idea that it was a permanent part of Atlantis. Atlantis was the name of the premier area of population, the showcase or center, and not the only populated area. Other areas were not given one name. Some were technologically somewhat superior. Morally, none surpassed Atlantis (p. 155).
  • The crystal city and the lifespans. Animals were not allowed to wander the streets of the crystal city. They could not adjust to the energy. People in the energy cities lived shorter lives than the average, possibly in the forty and fifty year bracket, because the energy used the body faster, not because they were ill. Disease common elsewhere was largely absent there. People outside who attended to cleanliness and diet could expect the sixties and seventies. More primitive people lived much less long. The lifespan followed a level of awareness (p. 165).
  • Why it fell. On p. 188 the subject marked J says they had an arrogant attitude, that they were supreme, and that they did not respect the life force. That is why they were destroyed. The session includes a captured man, compared with going to New Guinea now, who was cooked and eaten. The librarian, through the same subject, says most people think of the Atlanteans as a high energy people, and that the continent was destroyed because they misused the life force. On p. 207 Cannon herself writes that the civilization had to fall because of misuse of mind powers and attempts to rewrite genetics, and that she still wanted the physical cause of the cataclysm. Clara’s information, as Cannon summarizes it on that page, is that humans were transported to other stars and returned after the cataclysm.
  • How it fell, in two accounts. John, shown the files by the librarian, describes deep fissures from the crystals. They transmitted sunlight into the ground and caused stress. They tried to tap the molten core, bored into it, and the core blew up (p. 207). Brenda, on p. 211, says it did not sink all the way. For centuries ships could not cross that ocean because of mud shoals. As the plates moved apart, the shoals sank deep enough for ships to pass. On land it was an earthquake, rivers of lava in the streets, and people who swam out were drowned by tidal waves that bounced off the continent on both sides. The waves swept the remains of the island. Cannon adds the Sargasso Sea and the old fear of sailing out of sight of land, including tales from the days of Columbus.
  • The flood legends. Phil says much of the flood tradition has come through unchanged and is quite accurate, though not all of it. The legend is based on realities, caused by the upheaval of the lands. The sinking of Atlantis would appear to be a flood if you were standing on the land. Asked whether it happened at the same time, he begins an explanation that this flooding was the lowering or sinking of the lands (p. 246).
  • 12,500 years, and what it dates. On p. 239 Phil dates the desert drawings at twelve thousand, five hundred years, and Cannon prints the figure 12,500 beside his words. He says a human made them, an Earth-being, not an extraterrestrial, and that the lines were not landing fields. On p. 240 she asks where the Nazca lines are now. He says not in the exact place, but down the coast. The same page says the hover craft used the same knowledge as Atlantis, and that the man was of the lineage of Atlantis. Then he names other continents, Lemuria or Mu. Brenda, asked where the Nazca lines in Peru came from, says they are very old, and that visitors who wanted to observe mankind needed a place to land larger ships.
  • Lemuria. The Lemurian session I read is about statues on a mountain top that remained when the Lemurian continent sank. The Lemurians were tribal and could manifest physical laws. Shamans, priests, and leaders of the tribal units solidified the statues and moved them by mental power. He says they go back about twenty thousand years. On the next page there were 136 different tribal clans. The statues represent the souls of man and the guardian spirits of those clans. They faced the direction of sunrise, and the Sun rose in a different position then. Later people came to the island, desecrated some of the stones, and were not the original people (the passage that ends on p. 252).

For Plato’s island, see Timaeus & Critias. For other proposed locations, see Where Was Atlantis. For a 2022 reading that also makes Altea the head of a physical Atlantis and puts a lost continent under Antarctic ice, see Michael E. Salla’s Galactic Federations, Councils & Secret Space Programs.

What she means by the name (p. 140)

Chapter 6 opens on p. 139. She has thought that a myth has some basis she can test in trance, sometimes through a past life and sometimes through a library on the spirit side. The definition I would carry is on the next page, in her own voice.

I have found that Atlantis was not a single continent, city, or place. It was a name given to the world as a whole at that time.

Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 140
Photo of Dolores CannonDolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 140

The name, she says, has become associated with the most developed part. The whole world was not at one level. The civilization existed for thousands of years. She compares that span with the last thousand to two thousand years of our own history. She has been told that many people alive now were alive then, and that a life now can repay karma that would normally require ten lifetimes.

Brenda is the first subject in the chapter. Cannon says this is Atlantis in its glory, before the deterioration.

The history of Atlantis stretched over many thousands of years.

Brenda, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 140
Photo of Dolores CannonBrenda, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 140

Before Atlantis arose, Brenda says, the main civilization on this Earth was from the galactic community helping mankind, and they helped Atlantis. The sentence continues off the page.

The people, and the stone (p. 142)

Brenda says Atlantis was slightly ahead because it started developing first, and that the other civilizations developed so they could work together. The coloring is the detail I would set beside other physical descriptions.

They started out being basically reddish-blond headed with a few brown haired.

Brenda, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 142
Photo of Dolores CannonBrenda, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 142

She adds a complexion between olive and creamy, usually green or hazel eyes, and then, later, a general mixture of hair and skin. They could sometimes tell ancestry by coloring, and they did not worry about it.

And they tended to be tall and well-formed.

Brenda, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 142
Photo of Dolores CannonBrenda, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 142

A second voice on the page, marked S, says they did not base the culture on metal. They believed in using materials close to the condition in which they found them, so they used a lot of stone and clay. Their sciences went to the manipulation of energies, including gravity, and they could erect buildings with huge blocks of stone. Brenda says machinery was not necessary.

The Atlantic, and what was not Atlantis (p. 155)

This session is marked P. Cannon asks where Atlantis was on a geographical map as it is today.

It was in the Atlantic Ocean.

P, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 155
Photo of Dolores CannonP, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 155

He adds that some ground of that time has sunk and reemerged, and some ground that was then under water is now land. There have been many Earth changes. Asked whether the majority of the continent is below water now, he says that is accurate. Asked whether part of the United States was part of it, he says that is not accurate. The entire continent of the United States was, in his wording, part of the ocean floor at one time.

the imminent and premier area of population was called "Atlantis".

P, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 155
Photo of Dolores CannonP, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 155

It was not the only populated area. It was the showcase or center of civilization. Other areas were not given a single name, and there was no need to fold them into what would then have been called the world government. Some of those areas were technologically somewhat superior. Morally, none was surpassed in Atlantis. He also describes classes in that one area: a low or poor working class, then a middle and an upper class.

The crystal city (p. 165)

P is still the voice. Animals were common in some other areas of the continent. They were not allowed to wander the crystal city, because they could not adjust to the energy. Illness that was common elsewhere was, to a great extent, absent in that kind of city. The life was shorter for another reason.

Possibly in the forty and fifty year age bracket would be average.

P, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 165
Photo of Dolores CannonP, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 165

That figure is for the energy cities. Outside, people of what he calls a higher order, who were aware of cleanliness and diet, could expect the sixties and seventies. People he calls more primitive lived much less long. He agrees that medical advance is part of it, and he says the life expectancy was dictated by a level of awareness. Cannon closes the session there. She says she had learned enough about the crystal city for that day.

Why they were destroyed (pp. 188, 207)

On p. 188 the subject is marked J. The scene upsets the subject. The people have an arrogant attitude. They are supreme. Everything else is for their benefit.

They don't respect the life force. This is why they were destroyed.

J, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 188
Photo of Dolores CannonJ, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 188

What distuned the subject was cannibalism. A group went in an airplane, captured an aborigine-type man, as if one went to New Guinea now, cooked him, and ate him. The subject had thought Atlanteans were nice people, with high energy. They were highly advanced, and they were arrogant and disrespectful to lower life forms. They would mutate animals and cause pain. The librarian then says that most people think of the Atlanteans as a high energy people, and that the continent was destroyed because they misused the life force.

On p. 207 Cannon separates two questions. She already had the moral reasons, misuse of mind powers and rewriting genetics. She wanted the physical cataclysm. Clara, she writes, had said that humans were transported to other stars and returned after the cataclysm. Cannon treats that as a plan she has also heard for a future evacuation. The destruction account she then takes is from the librarian, through John.

They bored into the molten core. And this molten core blew up, and that's why things exploded.

John, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 207
Photo of Dolores CannonJohn, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 207

Before that, he is being shown deep fissures. They used crystal power and transmitted sunlight into the ground, and it caused stress. They tried to tap the molten core, and the pressure helped destroy the island.

The day it broke (p. 211)

Brenda’s account is the one with the ships and the lava. A group that wanted power used the main crystal, and she says that probably made the earthquake worse, because the ground was already unstable. Asked whether that is why the continent sank, she says it did not sink all the way.

for centuries thereafter ships could not navigate that ocean because of the mud shoals that were in the way.

Brenda, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 211
Photo of Dolores CannonBrenda, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 211

It was too shallow to cross. As the plates moved apart, the shoals sank until ships could pass without running aground. She says maritime annals have records that people have called inexplicable. Cannon’s own paragraph then offers the old maps, the reluctance to sail far, tales in the days of Columbus of monsters and lost ships, and the Sargasso Sea.

Asked whether the people on the land experienced a sinking, Brenda says no. It was confusion and disaster. The land shook. Rivers of lava ran down the streets. People ran to the ocean and swam out to escape the lava and the shaking. Those who reached the ocean drowned. The earthquake sent tidal waves back, bouncing off the continent on both sides.

the tidal waves swept over the remains of the island and destroyed everything that was not already destroyed by the lava and the shaking.

Flood legends, Nazca, and Lemuria (pp. 239, 240, 246, 252)

Chapter 8 is Unexplained Mysteries. The 12,500 is not, on the page, a date for Atlantis.

Phil is asked how long ago the drawings were done. He offers chronological years.

Twelve thousand, five hundred years.

P, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 239
Photo of Dolores CannonP, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 239

She prints (12,500) beside the words. He says a human did them, an Earth-being, not an extraterrestrial. Extraterrestrial craft, he says, would not need lines of that size to land. On p. 240 she asks where the Nazca lines are now, and he says not in the exact place, but down the coast. The hover knowledge was the same knowledge used in Atlantis, and the man himself was of the lineage of Atlantis. Then the other name.

The sentence that names it is short. There have been other continents as well, Lemuria or Mu. Asked whether those continents existed before the man lived, he says concurrent with. Brenda, asked in the same stretch where the Nazca lines in Peru came from, says they are very old now, and that visitors from a civilization that wanted to observe mankind needed a place to land larger ships and to use smaller ships on the surface.

The flood section on p. 246 is Phil again.

The sinking of Atlantis would appear to be a flood if viewed from the perspective of being on the land itself.

Phil, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 246
Photo of Dolores CannonPhil, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 246

He says much of the information has come through unchanged and is quite accurate, though not all. The legend was based on realities and was caused by the upheaval of the lands. The next sentence, still answering whether the flood and the sinking were the same event, says this flooding was merely the lowering or sinking of the lands.

The Lemurian statues are a separate session, marked J. The place was part of the Lemurian continent. When that continent sank, this was a sacred mountain top that was left. The Lemurians were tribal. They manifested physical laws, made the statues, solidified them, and moved them by mental power, through shamans, priests, and leaders of the tribal units. He says they go back about twenty thousand years. Geologists, in his account, date the stone as primitive and do not know the age. The rock was taken from the nearby mountains and made malleable by energy, so that stone and flint worked it as a knife cuts butter. The stones were moved by telepathic levitation, which is why there are no tracks. They have not been moved since. They face the direction in which the Sun rose, and the Sun rose in a different position. The next page gives the count.

There were 136 different tribal clans in ancient Lemuria.

J, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 252
Photo of Dolores CannonJ, as printed by Dolores Cannon, The Convoluted Universe, Book One (Ozark Mountain Publishing, 2001), p. 252

The statues are the guardian spirits of those clans, and they represent the souls of man. The top-knot is a spiritual cord. They dressed their hair that way, and sometimes said the top-knot was pulling them out of the material universe. Later people came to this island, desecrated some of the stones, and were not the original people. The page does not name the island.

Where I leave the book

The pages I would actually carry are p. 140 (the name for the whole world, many thousands of years, the galactic community, ten lifetimes), p. 142 (reddish-blond, green or hazel, tall, stone and clay, gravity), p. 155 (the Atlantic, the United States as former ocean floor, the showcase, the classes), p. 165 (the crystal city, forty and fifty, the sixties and seventies), p. 188 (the life force, the captured man, New Guinea), p. 207 (mind powers, genetics, Clara’s stars, John’s molten core), p. 211 (mud shoals for centuries, lava, tidal waves, the island), p. 239 (12,500 for the drawings), p. 240 (Nazca, the lineage of Atlantis, Lemuria or Mu), p. 246 (the sinking seen as a flood), and p. 252 (136 clans).

Chapter 7, The Mystery of the Pyramids, begins after the Atlantis chapter. I am not using it as a date or a shoreline for the island. The earlier chapters are the search for a prodigy, energy devices, and a repository planet. I do not treat those as the geography of Atlantis.

Where to read it

The book is in copyright. The copy I used gives the copyright to Dolores Cannon in 2001, and the publisher as Ozark Mountain Publishing, Huntsville, Arkansas. The copyright page lists a first printing in 2001, a second in 2003, and a third in 2006, and the ISBN 1-886940-82-7. She calls the book the sequel to The Custodians. The quotations in this review are short excerpts for review and study.

FAQ

Where does Dolores Cannon place Atlantis?

On p. 140 she says it was not a single continent, city, or place, and that the name was given to the world as a whole, later associated with the most developed part. On p. 155 P says the place she asked about was in the Atlantic Ocean, that most of that continent is now under water, and that Atlantis was the showcase or center, not the only populated area. He says the United States was ocean floor at one time and was not a permanent part of Atlantis. Lemuria, or Mu, is a separate continent on p. 240.

What year does she use?

She does not, on the pages I used, date the sinking. Brenda gives many thousands of years for the history (p. 140). Phil gives twelve thousand, five hundred years, printed as 12,500, for the desert drawings, which the next page places at Nazca (pp. 239, 240). The Lemurian statue session gives about twenty thousand years for that remnant, and 136 tribal clans (p. 252). The life figures are forty and fifty in the energy cities, and the sixties and seventies outside them (p. 165).

Who lived there, and how did it end?

Brenda’s people began reddish-blond, green or hazel eyed, and tall, and later mixed (p. 142). P’s crystal city kept animals out and shortened life by its energy (p. 165). J says they did not respect the life force, and describes a captured man who was eaten (p. 188). Cannon adds misuse of mind powers and rewriting genetics (p. 207). John says they bored into the molten core and it blew up (p. 207). Brenda says lava in the streets, mud shoals for centuries, and tidal waves over the remains of the island (p. 211). Phil says that sinking would look like a flood from the land (p. 246).

Does she think the land was real?

She says she has verified, in trance, that a persistent legend has a basis. She prints P’s Atlantic continent, Brenda’s island and continent in the same destruction, and her own statement that the name once covered the world. She also prints the disagreements and says the subjects were seeing different times.

  1. Timaeus & Critias: Plato’s island, its size, and its date. Her Atlantic sentence is on p. 155, and she does not date the sinking.
  2. Where Was Atlantis: other proposed locations. Her P puts it in the Atlantic and refuses the United States as a permanent part of it.
  3. Michael E. Salla, Galactic Federations, Councils & Secret Space Programs: Altea as the head of Atlantis, and a Pa-Taal colony under the ice, with his own year of 11,600.
  4. The beginning of Atlantis: another page on this site that gathers a Cannon account. The figures in this review are the ones printed in Book One.
  5. Zénaïde A. Ragozin’s The Story of Chaldea: a flood tablet with a ship and a mountain. Cannon’s Phil says the sinking of Atlantis would look like a flood from the land.
