When we look beyond the canonical Hebrew Bible and include older Mesopotamian sources plus non-canonical Jewish texts that were still circulating when the Torah was being edited, we do find clear traces of world-destructions by fire and by cold/ice — exactly the two elements that the Hopi place before the final flood.

When the Hebrew Bible was finalised (probably 5th–4th century BCE), almost all references to earlier destructions by fire and ice were removed or marginalised. Only the flood remained in the canonical text. The older Mesopotamian tablets and the non-canonical Jewish writings, however, still preserve exactly the two elements that the Hopi place before the flood.
This is one of the strongest pieces of evidence that the Hopi cycle retains a more complete and older version of the same ancient Near-Eastern destruction sequence.
