Near-Death Experience Testimony by Ray Catania
Introduction and Childhood Background
My name is Ray Catania, and I am here to share that near-death experiences (NDEs) are very real. My childhood was marked by trauma, drama, turmoil, and fighting. This led me to spend much time alone. In those isolated moments, even as a young child aged 5, 6, or 7, I would stare at walls or hide in closets, under beds, in the basement, or the backyard. Without modern distractions like cell phones, this felt like unintentional meditation.
Over time, spending hours this way stripped away man-made perceptions. Walls lost color and texture; I began seeing the energy in particles and what holds matter together. Tuning into energy changed how I viewed the world. As a child, this did not scare me due to lack of preconceived notions.
Teenage Years and Reckless Lifestyle
Coming from chaos, it became my comfort zone. In my teens and 20s, I carried chaos everywhere. If none existed, I created or sought it. I lived recklessly, with little fear of death. I placed myself in dangerous situations multiple times, some potentially fatal.
The Near-Death Experience: The Fire Incident
One incident was not self-inflicted—a house fire. I lived with my parents; my bedroom was on the second floor, above the kitchen with a natural gas stove. Gas leaked upward into my room, which I inhaled for hours unnoticed.
In the morning, my mother lit the stove, causing an explosion and fire. My father quickly extinguished it, but the inhaled gas affected me. I heard emergency vehicles but struggled to move—my legs felt heavy, like 1,000 pounds each. I could not lift my head or yell.
I pulled myself to the bed’s edge and fell face-first to the floor. I knew I hit hard but felt no pain, as I had left my body. From the room’s corner, I observed my lifeless body. A light shone in the opposite corner on my energetic self. This light embodied love, kindness, compassion, and euphoria. My energetic form merged with it.
The light formed a tunnel. Moving deeper increased euphoria. At the end stood a being saying, “Ray, it’s okay to come into the light.” For some reason, I trusted him despite skepticism toward humans or such beings. I proceeded, feeling increasing euphoria and desiring to reach the other side.
Return to the Body
My father burst in, kicked the door, picked me up, and cried while calling paramedics. We had a poor relationship, but I felt his distress deeply—something I had longed for. I asked the being if I could return, saying I could not leave him like that. Permission was granted.
I awoke on the living room floor with paramedics working on me. They prepared the ambulance. I felt fantastic, with lingering euphoria, and said I needed no help. They insisted otherwise and took me to the hospital.
I asked if they saw the light or heard the voice; they exchanged glances, thinking me delusional. Fearing commitment, I stayed silent. Later, others called me crazy. Without internet, I could not research similar experiences and buried it.
Post-NDE Life and Atheism
Raised Christian, I rebelled against all religion and became an atheist. Even after the NDE, I rationalized it: sunlight through a window, hallucinations from gas. I boxed it away mentally.
I never gained the desired father relationship. Returning to the body brought intense pain—all past injuries flared up amplified. I regretted not staying in the light.
Yet, knowing death held no fear, I continued risky behavior, working for shady people. Disputes occurred in bars. Once, hiding under a bar during a shootout, the being said, “Side door.” Despite doubt, I escaped through it and a long corridor to my car, unusually parked there that night.
Further Guidance and Manifestation
The being saved me repeatedly, including in a manifested car accident. Unhappy at a harassing job, I fixated on a friend’s lawsuit payout from an accident. Soon, on a rainy highway, distraction led to a multi-car pileup at high speed. The being urged, “Get under the dash.” I did, surviving severe damage unharmed relative to the wreck.
Spiritual Openings and Mediumship
Fearless of death, with childhood energy sight and NDE, I opened a portal. Energies became visible but less intrusive if ignored.
Years later, after a failed marriage but successful raising of college-aged children, I dated online. One profile stood out; I felt a soul connection and emailed comically: “Hi, I’m Ray, and you’re my future wife—you just don’t know it yet.” We married soon and remain together; she is my soulmate.
Meeting her reactivated visions. Energies formed human shapes via my third eye—like a movie screen in my mind. A man repeatedly said, “I effed up. I made a mistake. You can help her; I cannot.” Fearing insanity, I prepared a will and DNR.
My wife, a doctor of psychology and neuroscience, listened. I described the husky, bearded man in a specific shirt. She recognized her deceased father, who appeared powerfully in medium readings. She explained mediums.
We visited one. I described vibrations, presence, then the mental movie screen. She confirmed: “That’s exactly how I see it—we all do.” Relief came, but new pressure: how to handle it.
Her father’s message delivered, the vision stopped. She mentored me in mediumship for a year. She had been institutionalized young for “schizophrenia,” later recognized as mediumship.
Life Lessons
I really started to take away that we do not fully lose all negative emotions. In other words, I still experience some anger. I still experience some sadness. But it dissipates quickly. I started to see life in a different perspective. I saw it in a positive way. For me, coming from the place where I came from to that point was nothing short of magical.
Today I wake up and my life is amazing. What I have learned is that nothing is either good nor bad but thinking makes it so. That is Shakespeare’s quote. I think it is really remarkable because when you think about it, you can determine how you want to feel about things—most things. Again, there are tragedies and there are some horrific things that can happen that will take time to work through. But for the most part, many of the things that we worry about and we have anxiety about, we really just do not need them. We can let them go.
Conclusion
I firmly believe today that we are all one and that we all come from one source and one Creator. You may call it the universe or God or whatever term you wish to use. It does not matter. This energetic entity we are all a part of. To hurt your fellow man or woman is to harm yourself. It is really, really important that more people understand this very, very quickly. Otherwise, we are going to wind up with a world headed in a direction that we do not want it to head in.
Believe me when I say we are all a part of that light that I was a part of on that one day. One day we will all return to it. Until that day, I wish you all well. Thank you very much for joining me today.
