Rome is usually the end of the story on this site, not the beginning. By the time the Romans arrive, Atlantis is a memory in Plato, the Golden Age is a poem, and the old gods have new Latin names. But Rome is the filter through which much of that older world reached us: its poets kept the myths, its writers described the northern tribes, and its empire shaped the Church that decided which texts survived.
On this page I follow Rome from its gods to its builders and then to its long, uneasy marriage with Christianity.
Old gods, Latin names
The Romans took over the Greek gods and gave them their own names. On Zeus, Jove, the Roman Zeus, overthrows his father Saturnus and banishes him to Tartarus. Saturn’s reign was the Golden Age; on Ovid’s Four Ages Ovid adapts Hesiod with Roman elements, and the Golden Age falls under Saturn, the Roman Cronus. See also Saturn.
Some gods came from further away. On Cybele and her consort Attis the Roman Senate officially adopts the cult of the Phrygian mother goddess in 204 BCE, during the Second Punic War. Mercury, the messenger, gets his own puzzle on Roman dodecahedron and icosahedron codes:
Mercury was the Roman god of trade, commerce, messages, and messengers.
Matt.Geevan, Roman dodecahedron and icosahedron codes, at 3:05
Builders, miners and writers
Roman engineering is the benchmark the alternative researchers measure against. On What DeDunking wanted to say on Joe Rogan:
the Romans were able to build a crane that could lift six tons that's amazing but not enough to even lift the stones
DeDunking, DeDunking on his Joe Rogan appearance, at 6:00
On Metatron on mines under the Giza pyramids Roman mining becomes the comparison for the tunnels under Giza:
Ventilation and bad air is something that Romans were absolutely aware of.
Metatron, Mines under the Giza pyramids, at 16:09
The Roman city itself now lies underground. On Why Ancient Rome Is Buried Garrett Ryan explains why the street level rose so far above the old pavement:
Far and away the greatest culprit, however, was debris from ruined buildings.
toldinstone, Why Ancient Rome Is Buried, at 2:18
The Romans also wrote down what they saw. On Why Himmler hunted Tacitus Germania the oldest copy of Tacitus’s book on the northern tribes becomes a prize for the Nazis. On Reading the Herculaneum scrolls a villa library burned in 79 AD is being read again:
this is the only Library we have with its contents from the ancient Greco Roman world
Curiosity Stream, Reading the Herculaneum scrolls, at 8:59
And on The city Rome received in a will Street Gems walks Ephesus, which Rome inherited from the kings of Pergamon instead of conquering it.
Rome and the Christians
The relationship starts with persecution. In Dolores Cannon’s regressions, Suddi, the Essene teacher she spoke with, is wary of Rome:
In each nation there are good men, but Rome tends to destroy the ones who speak the truth. Therefore, this is not good.
Suddi, as printed by Dolores Cannon, Jesus and the Essenes

See The Essenes. Oahspe remembers the massacre of the Theban Legion under Maximian:
In Thebes, six thousand Kriste'yan warriors were massacred by the armies of the emperor Maximum, inspired by Baal.
Oahspe, Book of Eskra (Chapter XLVIII)
See The Roman Empire created the Church (Vatican). Then Rome changes sides. On Christianity Constantine marches on Rome under the sign of Christ, and on The Roman Catholics: a mix-up of faiths I look at what the Church absorbed. Under the basilica itself the older Rome is still there; on The pagan necropolis under the Vatican toldinstone reconstructs the Roman street of tombs found in 1939, next to a temple of Cybele and Nero’s circus.
Matías de Stefano reads the city as a map of the European mind. On Matias de Stefano on Rome during the conclave custom becomes rite and then law, and that Roman pattern, Latin included, is the one he says Europe still follows.
