Vimanas are the flying craft of the Indian epics, and on this site they sit right where old texts and the ancient astronaut question meet. These are the pages that talk about them.
Craft of the gods
On Sumer: The First Known Civilization Jim Marrs lines the vimanas up with the flying ancestors of other peoples:
In India, it is believed that man is descended from gods who flew in fiery craft called vimanas.
Jim Marrs, Our Occulted History
On the same page Marrs writes that in the Mahabharata vimanas launched a weapon that seemed as devastating as an atomic bomb. Where Was Atlantis repeats the line about gods in fiery craft.
Wars in the sky
On Anunnaki Wars in Ancient India Krishna’s city of Dwaraka is attacked by King Salva with flying machines and powerful weapons. The summary of Ancient Aliens at War: Disguised as God’s Servants says Erich von Daniken describes smaller vimanas descending to Earth from cities in the sky. On Padma Purana the final battle of the Ramayana involves Ravana’s flying chariot, the Pushpaka Vimana. On Mahabharata: Kurukshetra, Vimanas, the Flood and the Kali Yuga I bring the epic’s vimanas together with the war at Kurukshetra and Mohenjo-Daro.
Machines or mind
On Alien Reptile Gods, Giants & Super Machines Praveen points to the vimanas of the Mahabharata and Ramayana as a hint of ancient flying technology, and on Tomb of The Giant Gilgamesh Discovered! Shocking Truth of Our History! they are listed among the ancient depictions of flying machines. The Blueprint of the Ark reads them the other way, as vehicles of mind, mantra and energy rather than literal ships.
