Paul Schliemann is the name on a newspaper story printed in the New York American on 20 October 1912. The story said he was a grandson of Heinrich Schliemann, the archaeologist who excavated Troy. It claimed that Heinrich left a sealed bequest for any heir willing to devote a life to proving that Atlantis existed. Paul said he had followed up the clues and was about to produce physical evidence.
The story is regarded as a hoax. The Internet Sacred Text Archive says no follow-up book appeared, the promised objects were never produced, and scholars who worked closely with Heinrich Schliemann confirmed that he never showed any interest in Atlantis.
Jason Colavito writes that Paul Schliemann likely never existed. He adds that some speculate he was an illegitimate grandson, and that someone using the name published a second Atlantis hoax in 1924.
The article called him “Dr. Paul Schliemann”. I found no source that confirms a doctorate, so this page does not use the title. The 1912 text is on this site as the book How I Found the Lost Atlantis, The Source of All Civilization and the post How I found the lost Atlantis, the source of all civilization.
