Johanna James claims that a huge labyrinth at Hawara, in Egypt’s Fayum oasis, is a real buried complex. She says Pliny the Elder and Strabo treated it as an actual site, and she repeats an older boast that it outdid the pyramids at Giza. Visitors, on her account, see a slumped mud brick mass, while the stone inside is megalithic limestone and still whole. She claims Flinders Petrie found a vast slab and called it a base, when it was a roof. A later satellite firm, using computing linked to British military contacts, mapped granite corners and passages dropping well past eight meters. She says that data was treated as sound, shown to the Egyptian government with scans from 2008, and followed by a dig that struck a megalithic wall where the pictures had pointed. She also claims an oblong Tic Tac form of unknown metal sits at the center. Pumping the water will be costly, she says, but a large visitor build is planned. She does not present this as confirmed archaeology.
