Tulan is the city the Maya peoples of Guatemala named as their place of origin, a land they reached from across the sea. I keep returning to it because the old accounts place it to the east, toward the rising sun. These are the pages where it comes up.
From the other side of the sea
On American Evidences of Intercourse with Europe Or Atlantis Ignatius Donnelly quotes the Cakchiquel manuscript on more than one Tulan:
Four persons came from Tulan, from the direction of the rising sun--that is one Tulan.
The Cakchiquel manuscript, quoted by Ignatius Donnelly

The Annals of the CakchiQuels gives the fuller text, where the ancestors Gagavitz and Zactecauh say they came from the other side of the sea, from the land of Tulan. The same page tells of four brothers who went out from Tulan, the golden city of the sun, and notes the Aztec form of the name, Tonatlan. On The Deluge Legends of America Donnelly quotes Bancroft on the art of painting and a system of writing brought back from Tulan, from the other side of the sea.
Votan and the colonies
On The God Odi, Woden, or Wotan and Is Wotan the Same as Odin? Donnelly’s Votan founds tributary centres at Tulan, Mayapan and Chiquimala. The Central American and Mexican Colonies is the Donnelly chapter on the Atlantean settlements in that region, and on The size of Atlantis Tulan or Tonatlan is listed as the city of the sun god.
