The giants create a clay giant to aid Hrungnir, but Thor's clever servant tricks Hrungnir, allowing Thor to kill him with his hammer, Mjöllnir.
However, during the battle, a piece of Hrungnir's whetstone lodges in Thor's forehead.
Thor's son, Magni, eventually lifts Hrungnir's leg off his father's neck.
Despite the pain, Thor helps a sorceress named Groa, who subsequently forgets the magic to completely remove the whetstone, leaving it stuck in Thor's head.
