Jared is a short line in the Genesis genealogy, but in my research his name carries a date: the Watchers came down in his days. These are the pages where I wrote about him.
In the line of Seth
On Atlantis in the Holy Bible? I list the patriarchs with their ages: Mahalalel fathered Jared at 65, and Jared fathered Enoch at 162 and lived 962 years. Genesis 5 – Adam’s Descendants – 900+ Lifespan, 900+ Year lifespan explanations in Genesis 5 and Human lifespan declines give the same line, with Jared as Mahalalel’s son and Enoch as Jared’s son. On Noah’s Family Jared appears among the earlier ancestors named in Genesis and Jubilees.
The descent in the days of Jared
The Book of Enoch, in R. H. Charles’s 1917 translation that I use on Who Were the Nephilim?, says the two hundred angels descended in the days of Jared on the summit of Mount Hermon and bound themselves there by mutual imprecations. The Book of Enoch highlights Mount Hermon as the gathering site of the Watchers follows the mountain itself.
Rob Skiba builds on this date. On Defending the Book of Enoch and Explaining the Pre- and Post-Flood Nephilim he argues that the Nephilim of Genesis 6:4 were from the days of Jared, not Noah. On Moses Tells Us Exactly How the Nephilim Returned After the Flood he places the descent in the time of Jared on Mount Hermon, drawing on Enoch, Jasher and Jubilees, and says the event was unique to the days of Jared. He reads the “mighty men of old” as the Nephilim of Jared’s time, with the Hebrew word olam pointing to a very distant past.
