The Lost Continent of Mu

In 1926 Col. James Churchward published The Lost Continent of Mu, with the subtitle The Motherland of Man, through William Edwin Rudge in New York. He places Mu in the Pacific, from north of Hawaii south to a line between Easter Island and the Fijis, more than 5,000 miles (8046 kilometers) from east to west and more than 3,000 from north to south, in three lands. He gives it ten peoples, 64,000,000 inhabitants, and an emperor he calls Ra Mu, head of the Empire of the Sun. He dates a high civilization there more than 50,000 years ago and the sinking about 12,000 years ago, in fire and then under the sea.

He says this land was the biblical Garden of Eden and the mother of colonies he traces in India, Egypt, Yucatan, Mexico, and the Uighur empire of Asia. Atlantis, in this book, is a different land, sunk later, and not Mu. The Naacal tablets he says he translated in India, the Troano Manuscript, the Codex Cortesianus, and a Lhasa record are his main written authorities. The book is his own research argument. It is not a novel.

Read my chapter-by-chapter review of the book.
