Gaul, the land of the Celts between the Rhine, the Alps and the Pyrenees, keeps coming back in my Atlantis research. Writers from Timagenes to Scott-Elliot said its people remembered an origin across the ocean, and Gaul is also where Druids, Rome and early Christianity met. These are the pages where I wrote about it.
Traditions of Atlantis
The Theosophist W. Scott-Elliot gives the strongest claim. On The Story of Atlantis – focus on the occult investigation of Atlantis and its sub-races he writes:
The Gauls possessed traditions of Atlantis which were collected by the Roman historian, Timagenes, who lived in the first century, b.c. Three distinct peoples apparently dwelt in Gaul. First, the indigenous population (probably the remains of a Lemurian race), second, the invaders from the distant island of Atlantis, and third, the Aryan Gauls (see Pre-Adamites, p. 380).
W. Scott-Elliot, The Story of Atlantis

I am more cautious on Ancient sources on Atlantis. Timagenes supposedly cited the Druids of Gaul, and he apparently said one group of Gauls came from “a remote island”, but I could not confirm this, and a remote island could just as well be Ireland or Britain.
Iberians, Druids and Lugus
Donnelly’s The Iberian Colonies of Atlantis has the Iberians spreading over Spain, Gaul and the British Islands at a very early date and holding the south of Gaul as far as the Rhone. The Irish Colonies from Atlantis contrasts the Druids of Gaul and Britain, said to offer human sacrifices, with the Irish Druids, who are claimed not to have. On Civilization an Inheritance Donnelly argues that the Gauls were no savages: they had iron weapons, walled towns, wheeled vehicles and written languages, and they believed in the immortality of the soul.
Lugh: The Celtic God of Many Skills, Oaths, and the Harvest covers Lugus, the Gaulish form of Lugh, whom Julius Caesar identified with Mercury, with dedications to him across Gaul and Britain.
Gaul under Rome
In Claire Heartsong’s Anna, the voice of the Magdalenes, Anna describes the Essene life in Gaul and Britain. I quote her on Stone circles:
Across the lands of Gaul and Britain we consecrated our life-force within sacred groves, caves and standing stone circles, which have stood witness to the divinity in all life from ‘time before time’. Sad to say, tranquil peace within our cottages, orchards and Essene way of life was constantly overshadowed by the haunting presence of Rome, which had earlier made Gaul its colonial state.
Anna, in Claire Heartsong, Anna, the Voice of the Magdalenes

Gaul also mattered to the rise of the Church. Christianity: Looeamong’s establishment notes that Constantine ruled Gaul, Britain and Spain before he defeated Maxentius. The video How Christianity Almost Vanished in 303 AD covers the persecution that came just before.
