Lettres américaines

In 1788 M. le Comte J. R. Carli published Tome II of Lettres américaines at Boston, and at Paris with Buisson. This copy prints no translator’s name. The notes are signed T. He argues that Mexico matches ancient Egypt and Peru matches China in customs from before iron, alphabetic writing, and coin, because a large Atlantic land, Plato’s Atlantis, once stood between the continents.

He separates that drowning from Noah’s flood and identifies it with the flood of Ogyges, in the time of the Egyptian Hercules. He puts the separation about 4000 years before our era, between an astronomical date of 4600 and the arrival of iron, writing, and coin about 3000. This file is only Tome II, Letters XXIX to XLIX.
