Études anté-historiques

In 1874 Roisel published Études anté-historiques, with the second title Les Atlantes, at the Librairie Germer Baillière in Paris. The title page prints no personal name beyond Roisel. He treats Plato’s island as a real Atlantic land, now drowned, of which the Azores and the Antilles are emerged parts, and he puts the centre of the subsidence in the Sargasso Sea.

From that land he derives a bronze-working people whose colonies, on his reading, reached Egypt, western Europe, and America. He dates an Egyptian monarchy about the year 5900 before our era, and in the résumé a knowledge of the precession more than ten thousand years before our era. He does not use the name Mu or the name Lemuria. The book is a research argument. It is not a novel.

Read my chapter-by-chapter review of the book.
