A false, pretentious self; what you call a persona
The children who are born into more conscious families are made aware that they are not immune from working out and healing their own personal karmas, or from directly experiencing the karma we all share – that of basic ignorance which, beginning with unconscious birth trauma, often results in the perception of being a separate ‘I’ in a separate body, divided within self, left to grieve our heart’s immense loss when we perceive ourselves disconnected and alone.
A false, pretentious self; what you call a persona – an ego, forms out of this core grief and terror. An immense need to be in control of life’s uncertainties arises; an unquenchable thirst for more of whatever can, even briefly, assuage an ever deepening despair, becomes a constant preoccupation. The false self tries to preserve its existence and unmet desires with great tenacity. Attachment and addiction to unrequited desires obscures the True Self in the same way the sun becomes obscured by clouds. But it is also the sun’s light that reveals the clouds that obscure it. So it is, likewise, that the intrinsic Light, which is the True Self, reveals the ‘false self ’ and its obscuring masquerade of fleeting and fickle desires.
