Atrahasis

The Atrahasis epic is an Akkadian poem of the seventeenth century BCE. The gods make humans to do their work. The humans become too many and too noisy. Enlil sends plague, famine and then a flood. Enki warns Atrahasis, who builds a boat.

The full modern English I used to keep here was Stephanie Dalley, 1989. It is in copyright, and it was not credited. I have removed it. I did not find a public-domain English of the whole epic. The story, in my own words, is on Atrahasis.

Credits and public domain

No public-domain translation of the whole epic is given. Dalley 1989 has been removed. Lambert and Millard 1969 is also in copyright. George Smith 1876 does not cover these three tablets. See the credits on the text page.
