Zénaïde A. Ragozin’s The Story of Chaldea is a history of the plain of Shinar from the earliest settlers to the rise of Assyria. The copy I used is New York and London, G. P. Putnam’s Sons, 1886. She puts a Turanian people, Shumir in the south and Accad in the north, in the land before the descendants of Noah. Her working dates include Sargon of Agadê at 3800 B.C., an Elamite raid in 2280 B.C., and Khudur-Lagamar, the Chedorlaomer of Genesis 14, about 2200 B.C. Beside those she prints Berosus’s 691,200 years from Oannes to the Deluge, and the tablet of Hâsisadra, the ship, and Mount Nizir.
