Joppa

Finally, in this upper region of the Amazon basin they found silver and the other goods that the fleets brought back to Joppa (Jaffa) for Jerusalem; the names of these goods, which are in the Hebrew text of the Bible, belonged to the language of the Antis, as will be seen below.

To go to Tarschisch, the Bible tells us, the prophet Jonah took ship at Joppa: so it was to undertake the navigation of the Atlantic; otherwise he would have taken ship on the Red Sea.

We would point out that the voyage to Ophir under Solomon brought him only 420 talents of gold, according to chapter IX of the first book of Kings, and that Chronicles, book II, chapter IX, verse 10, completes this account by saying: "The servants of Hiram and of Solomon, who brought the gold of Ophir, brought algum and precious stones." The woods called algum must necessarily have been unloaded at Joppa, which is very close to Jerusalem.

Some have maintained that Tarschisch could only be on the coast of the East Indies, which is plainly impossible, since Jonah, to go there, far from taking ship on the Red Sea, went to take ship at Joppa, and since, moreover, Hiram's fleet came out of the Mediterranean.

He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish.

He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port.
