Ovid’s Metamorphoses is a Latin poem of transformations, from the first century CE. Book 1 tells four ages of humankind: gold, silver, bronze and iron, and then a flood.
The English of those four ages on this site is Brookes More, 1922, which is in the public domain. A. S. Kline’s translation of 2000 used to fill the page. It is in copyright. I have replaced the four ages and removed the other long borrowings from that translation.
Read Ovid’s four ages.
